These are really old. Like at least a year old, guess that's how often photograph my stuff. They were a fun practice in using stickered pieces, but I definitely feel like they can be improved now.

The last ones are more of the standard 6-wide 2 figs side by side kind of cars I'm sure you've all grown to love/hate at this point.
This one's mostly a little homage to the set that inspired me to start making these, 4728 Escape from Privet Drive.

TWICE IT GLITCHED AND SET TWO OF MY ITEMS I HAD AT X2 TO X100. I DIDN'T NOTICE TILL I GOT MY SHIPMENETS IN AND WAS PARTING AT ORDERS WHEN I NOTICED I HAD TWO BAGS OF X100 FOR Plate, Modified 1 x 4 with 2 Studs AND Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Pin Hole on Top EVEN THOUGH BOTH WERE SET AT WANT X2 ON THE WANTED LIST.

Why is this set so based? It's like a mega Mixel. Will probably get another one because I like the spider equally.

Also why is this year's Creator so great? This, rocket car, bi-plane, arcade, not-VW camper, all top-tier sets.

Is there even a battle pack based on an actual Star Wars vehicle? I know pic related is meant to vaguely be an AT-RT and the rebel alliance one is meant to vaguely replicate the speeder bikes from Return of the Jedi but I'm not even entirely sure about those two.

Not a refrence, 'The Entertainer' is a popular toy company that has pretty much the same establishing set-up as Toys R Us did before it's bankruptcy. As such it has a high likelihood of going bankrupt also reducing the competition and making it more difficult to buy toys for competitive prices

On the subject of battle packs, is it just me or this is actually one of the best sets released last year? Gosh, it's so darn cute, there are hardly any sets with jawas and tuskens and the fact that the astromech is based off of a random background character in Mos Eisley only makes it the more appealing. Even the vehicle is interesting, it does feel like a small crane-like industrial machine that could actually exist in the Star Wars universe.

So i was cleaning a swimming pool today and I found several lego pieces in the pool. It really triggered my spectrum. The mom shortly came outside.

Well lads, I'm fucked. The Kingdoms Joust 10223 is retired and therefor not supported by Lego. The parts breaking on me are available for purchase and they will not work with me in replacing hundreds of brown parts including the large baseplates. Even though the set is brand new, I've offered to provide great documentation including my my Amazon prime invoice. It's not the Amazon sellers fault, he provided me a box sealed in good condition. The set is only from 2012. Let this be a warning to you guys. If you buy any retired Lego and everything is brittle and breaks the moment you put it together. When you have 2x2s that you can break with your fingers, Lego won't help you. They gave me 200 VIP points. Woopdie do. Thanks a lot Lego. He spoke to his supervisors and they checked the records on the set and said "we have never encountered a problem with this set" therefor no special help. "You must have a secluded issue" they said. Really makes angry. 200 bucks down the drain. The other colors for the most part are okay I guess and the minifigs seem alright. But what if the whole batch is going to break down on me? Also the brown is integral because I wanted the build and to use the parts on my castle mocs.

Honestly, if Amazon doesn't refund your money, you should print out photos of the broken pieces and mail a letter to Lego explaining the problem and telling them that you feel the 200 VIP points is insufficient as you bought a sealed box, even a retired one. Try to keep a friendly tone, but make it clear that you would like to be compensated. From what I've heard in the /lg/ over the years, Lego responds to snail mail correspondence more than email or phone calls.

I do feel really bad for the Amazon Prime seller. I hear a lot of Lego resellers get screwed over on returns. Just recently dusted off and reassembled pic related from the depths of the basement. This clusterfuck has those flick missiles, technic cannons, gatling gun, "bombs" and those spring loaded shooters. On top of all the figs with firing blasters.

Will be trying to cram more projectile weapons like that net shooter onto it to terrorize the little city I have. Guess they do call it a "gun" ship.

they had a sale 20 percent off sale going on for the past week so I picked up the single wide black track links x200 for 30 dollars but since it was 20 percent off it was close to 24 dollars for that.

Heard the tracks are good quality and they certainly look better then Lego's track links. Will pick up the double wide in steel and black when I get my heavier tanks on my bricklink wishlist (t76,kv1,panzer iv).

Meanwhile some of my brown pieces are okay and some broke the first time I used them. I think it's just manufacturing defect, Lego released some really shit batches.

The LUG I'm currently in has a membership probably in the hundreds, though attendance at the monthly meetings ranges I believe from 30 to 50. The minimum is 20 members for registered status; I don't know how frequently you have to convene, but we miss monthly meetings every now and then so you could probably manage with 6 meetings yearly.

Our LUG has a website (its main purpose is to say where our next meeting is), an email listing (full of spam from dubious Lego resellers no one has ever met in person), and elected positions (fairly informal). You do need an official Lego ambassador in your group, but I believe part of the registration deal is that you get to appoint one of your members as ambassador. That person should be willing to travel to Denmark as necessary, and they have a wide range of responsibilities, such as handling the entire LUGbulk program, participating on the Ambassador Network, etc.

The biggest requirement, and the part that most of our LUG's efforts are spent on, is hosting 3 public events per year. These have to be sizable events with large public attendance and something like 10 LUG members working as staff for the duration of the event. I'm a little hazy on the event requirements, but it's definitely 3 per year at minimum or you can't qualify for registered LUG status. I believe Lego does offer support for these events (bulk bricks, I think), but arranging the event and doing the public outreach are all on your LUG.

You also need to meet all these requirements for a full year (events included) before you can register as a LUG, using that as your credentials. I've heard that Lego is planning some changes to the LUG system in the future, possibly adding options for smaller LUGS with fewer requirements but less support, but that's all speculation.

So I know that I'm late to the party, but what do you guys think about LEGO profits loss last year?

20 % profit loss is huge, even if you've had 13 years of growth before it.

Personally it feels like LEGO is heading towards the same place they were 15 years ago. They're making too much shit. A wave was 6 sets back in the day, now it's easily 10 and only one set under 20 bucks. Also making stuff like Superhero Girls when Friends and Elves already are great sellers, or making a fuckton of sets for the LEGO Batman movie.

Also the Constraction Star Wars figures. Some sell, like Vader, but most just shelfwarm ESPECIALLY the Rogue One sets. Also Toys R Us is closing in the US, LEGO already having a tough market there its gonna hurt to lose their biggest reseller.

On top of this, LEGO is gonna face increased competition with the "knockoff" brands that has seriously improved their bricks quality past years

The villains were the only interesting thing about that theme, good guys were boring and none of the builds left much of an impression. Downgrade compared to the previous Agents which had at least a few memorable sets, like the retro sci-fi robot.

Been working on this stuff for a bit, planning on ordering up the parts and replacing any parts that don't actually exist in the colours I need.

Managed to find a way to implement the interior details I wanted to, though I'm unsure if I like how it removes the squatness of the building or not.

What I dislike about Lepin is that they don't really bother to branch out into own shit, and occasionally stealing stuff from Ideas that didn't make the cut, apparently often against the wishes of original creators (I specifically remember some dude who submitted a few planes being mad about it), despite the corporation which owns them having a separate brick brand (Xingbao, I believe?) which sources designs from fans without being scummy about it. Competition that relies on own set designs like Cobi, MB, Oxford or Gudi is good to have around and there's definitely room for cheaper stuff on the market, though.

Thanks. A movie theater hmmm. It would be hard to do in a half sized footprint. But do know that LEGO has their theater and have built it but changed it up a bit. Maybe I'll make a smaller style movie house like they had back in the 50's. Thanks for the input.

In the meantime... I met up with the guy that was selling 20lbs this morning. Turned out to be more like 30lbs once I weighed it when I got home with a boxed Pirates of the Caribbean ship with the sails still in the bag.

This guy had no idea what it was valued at so I offered him $20 cash after he said he was looking for around $50. I figured he'd counter with $30. Yup. So I got it a buck a pound. Granted there will be a few Megablocks in there and I've already found a crayon but eh. It's clean and in good shape. Pic attached.

Yeah but Nexo Knights is not a mix of different themes, it's an abomination of nexo knights specific things. Hard to find pieces in the set to work for a castle of antiquity other than the argument in saying, yeah I could use the blue and just say that it's a painted castle.

Are you genuinely incapable of finding any use for the new wedges, the hexagon piece and the mech cockpits? The new pieces are actually nowhere near the list of problems with NK. Also most of the baddie sets weren't really any different from the orc stuff from the last good pure Castle line.

They were pure castle but neither was good, asides from the two peasant sets and the tiny jester/wizard sets we got in Kingdoms' last wave. They were way too plain, having bad guys who are just slight recolords of the good guys instead of something cool like Fright Knights, forestmen or orcs isn't very exciting. And I honestly forgot about LotR.

But all of classic castle is very bland. The point of those sets in my eyes is parts packages to make large castle era mocs. Even the most recent one from 4-5 years ago was both true to the original themes and were advanced in techniques and provided great modular abilities for kids to put multiple sets together. Now I wouldn't display these sets, they were good parts packs. Those "peasant" sets are my favorite. I want more of those. Give us a big castle UCS style set for the 14+ bracket. You also reference Fright Knights which was from the castle era that did terrible for Lego in the late 90s. It was not very good. Forestmen were great and fit with the whole robin hood legend. Orcs were just too fantasy in my opinion. The beauty about the classic castle is there were no obvious villain. You could make up your own story with the different factions. Even the dragon knights and wolf pack were not necessarily evil.

Wolfpack was about as obviously villanous as Blacktron considering they were advertised as robbers but fair point, there was a lot of factions whose alignment was up for own interpretation, with dragon knights even what is part of the faction was up for debate. However, having nothing but absolutely standard dudes without any more defined aesthetic in a theme would be like having a pirate theme with nothing but bluecoats and redcoats. Also literally nothing wrong with fantasy factions considering how dragons and ghosts are considered pretty much an integral part of classic castle by now despite not being thee from the beginning and the fantasy Castle is probably the most fondly remembered castle line since the early 90s, if anything they should go deeper and add stuff from medieval lore next time, like a woodwose faction or crazy hermits.

True, ghosts and dragons were always prevelent, I guess my gripe with the Orcs is they replaced the minifigure villains instead of just being an accessory to their arsenal. Like the dragonknights still had their dudes but the dragon was their special weapon. I could not use a dragon in my builds if I wanted.

Forestmen were about equally weird as fantasy creatures considering they're a whole faction of Robins Hoods, might as well add a whole faction of Don Quixotes. Castle was never a realistic theme considering there's no trace of historical heraldry anywhere, all logos are made up, and wargear from different time periods is mixed, so embracing stuff from various common fictional interpretations of medieval times - both more down to earth stuff like Robin Hood and an occasional lonely wizard, and full blown fantasy races - never really seemed out of place for me and I don't care about having one less generic faction each time since we were still getting the default knights no matter what in at least some sets. I do understand your standpoint too, though, and I definitely agree with the earlier point about how having more peasant stuff would be great. They seemingly did want to try that even back in the 80s judging from the prototypes of more tools leaked recently and the market village was a well-recieved set, so hopefully one day we'll see that. And maybe a pirates theme with a new version of Islanders too.

Speaking of that, why did they never consider using the gimmick from the first HP sets in a castle theme? Being able to put together a castle by using official small and medium sets instead of buying a single huge one is a cool concept.

I can't speak for harry potter, but the lord of the rings helms deep set also had a mini wall set with orc army packs. So you could complete the full wall of helms deep. The pirates 2015 sets link 2 of each imperial sets and pirate sets. They have done this many times in recent years I think.

HP had a system where each set could be used as a room and the roofs were constructed in a way that let you swap them for another floor easily. With time they started making sets that didn't directly fit this due to depicting different locations but majority of the stuff from 2001-2004 did.

Yea,it's going to be hard to beat buying LEGO a buck a pound. I think I just set a new bar for myself. I did find about a pound or two of Megablocks, a marble, a crayon, and some other bootlego figures.

Oh and a bunch of Kinex. I must have thrown out 10 pounds of this stuff over the years of sorting used LEGO. I wonder if there's a market for people buying used Kinex or Megablocks.

Thanks to the anon who gave me the basic idea for building a tuk-tuk vehicle of sorts a couple threads ago.

I decided to build a chicken food truck, since apparently those exist.

I bought this set a few weeks ago, and every weekend I take it apart and rebuilt it. Are all the speed champion sets this good? It's so clever and fun to put together, there are tons of details hidden inside during the build that you can't even see when it's finished, like little shock absorbers/struts and engine details. The color scheme is perfect, and the car is remarkably solid and succeeds at accurately replicating its real world counterpart.

Not really, most of the earlier ones aside from the 918 and the McLaren were an absolute mess, but this year's releases are indeed shockingly gorgeous.

If you liked that one i suggest the classic GT-40, the porsche 911 posted above, the classic ferrari (out now)and porsche sets (the wedge shaped le mans ones) and maybe the Camaro z28 and Ford model A hotrod.
(The latter two look pretty silly stock though, but have the same vibe.)

God, if they go straight into classic rally cars and make good use of the Porsche license then I'd kill for pic related. Because the sets go out to the stores before the release date and those stores can technically chose to put them on the shelves as soon as they are bought from TLG. The exception is the licensed theme sets which can get them in trouble, but some do it anyway. That's why you see guys like Jangbricks sometimes get stuff early because apparently he knows where to find the stores that fuck up. Probably the majority of them follow the rules though. In fact a lot of stores are slow to get them on the shelves after release because they don't have the room on the shelves yet from older sets.

The street dates are so they can coordinate advertising campaigns. They ship the product to all the stores at the same time, and it's up to the stores to honor the street date.

HOWEVER, they don't ship the legos directly to each store. They ship them to a central warehouse hub for that store (Target, Walmart, etc.) and it's moved out from there to other hubs and then finally to the actual store shelf. This can affect the release dates with some stores getting them right away and some not getting them for another month.

I can distinctly remember I was on a cross country trip, ballpark between 88 and 92 at the outside. We hit a bunch of McDonald's along the way, and got a series of what i remember as these nifty black and yellow Lego mini vehicles with the happy meals that had instructions to combine the whole set into one super vehicle. I remember the kerfuffle over the starwars streetdate because disney and jang, but honestly I don't think any retailers, near me at least, are in any sort of hurry to get new sets out or be 'first'.

I gotta think infinity wars will be pretty big for kids/toys. From looking at commercials in store promotional stuff, retailers are hyping up easter. With toysrus going under it is an excellent opportunity for walmart to take the fight to amazon, or for target or whoever.

Problem is that Lego wasn't ever really colour blind. Everyone reads yellow as being equivalent to white as it's a lighter colour (And doubtless because of the Simpsons). You couldn't get away with making a character that was black and having them be yellow. Chances are you weren't aware of racial tensions as a kid (Why would you? That's why kids are colour blind) so you just never had to think of it as an issue. You notice when all the toys you're bought are uniformly different from you though.

I think it's nice: I get the opportunity to have figures that look like me. The only time it's ever felt like an issue is when other people complain that 'racial politics' has infected their toys, which is more often than not white people from the US who feel like they're being attacked by the figures. Everyone I know from my home in the UK tends to go 'Aw, that's nice' and moves on.

Not intended to be an attack or anything. Just thought I'd give my perspective.

Thinking of yellow as just white (which makes sense) means they didn't need to do light fleshies though. It may have made more sense to simply introduce dark flesh tones alongside yellow and instead not have this weird split across themes.

If consumers demand something that a company has no problem providing and it results in more sales, that's capitalism. If Lego felt they could attract a broad market through black minifigures or making sets for girls, that's the market at work.

Speaking of bars though, while I'd love to have a bunch of alcohol bottles to fill out various Lego bars (both commercial and personal), those ones there annoy me too much. I get it, it's Lego, everything's made out of bricks, but that doesn't mean that everything has to be "Bricksomething" or "Studthis".

nexo fags, i've never bought one of these sets. I've decided to stop hating them and buy one for parts. Based on my research, the Knighton Castle 70357 seems to be the best set for castle building parts. Am I right? The tank castle seems to have too many big panel pieces while this one has far more useful bricks.

But I disagree, that one has mostly just black. I don't want a black castle. The blue looks more realistic than the black and also looks more interesting. Besides, I might use the blue for one of my half timber frame period houses in the village. The Knighton castle seems loaded with useful unique parts. I also really like the statue, I might put that on the front of my ship moc.
