>>6834798I've always found the hate boner against Cassy Sark to be stupid, like he is the Pat Lee of 3p stuff. The first I heard of him, he was the main guy behind MMC's Terminus Hexatron's look. Hexatron was the figure that got Me into 3p stuff. I love his look, and he's one of the most fun figures I got. But there was a lot of bitching that he wasn't G1 enough, which delayed other stuff like the Shadowmaru release to make shit like the Continuum version. Around the time Feral Rex came out, another fantastic figure from MMC, there was the interview with Griffith who talked about cleaning up the design to make it work as a toy, which started the Pat Lee levels of hate boner against Cassy. It led to the Reformatted stuff being less original and more IDW-like (admittedly a move they were going with the Carnifex figure, anyway).
However, I have some figs that are heavily touted as Sark designs, such as the igear sharkies, the Mech Ideas Demolition Crue, Terminus Hexatron- and you know what, they are pretty fucking awesome. The only one I have that I consider a dud is the MMC Seraphicus Prominon, and that's probably due to too much fiddling in trying to 'fix' the design.
Now, is Sark the god of 3p figure designers? Fuck no, but he's not the hack people like to bitch about. Production of anything requires tweaks to make it work, so it makes sense that Sark's works do need clean up to work as a toy. He has a particular style, that I like and others don't, but generally his toys are fun and neat- that's why people are liking the Unrustables.
I have heard Sark is kinda an asshole to work with, but his work is still good. He's not fucking people out of money like Pat Lee did. So I find the hateboner incredibly stupid.
