What do you guys feel about the blind box format? I hate that I cannot just get the figure I want sometimes but pulling a rare figure feels awesome. Personally I am conflicted.

Yeah the repeats part is a pain in the ass. The only upside is if you are a part of an online trading community and you like trading/selling your spares.

The problem is when there is one rare figure is like 100 bucks. I know that spending less money just to have a chance doesn't make much sense either but sometimes I have trouble paying large sums of money for cheap toys.

This is a mentality EVERYONE has, if you don't experience some sort of pleasure from it then you quite literally have brain problems because your dopamine receptors are ruined.

Compulsive gambling is more a result of poor impulse control than it is a case of "having a functioning reward system".

Usually hate them. Quality is usually meh and I hate getting repeats. Fuck the ones that have awesome "chase" figures that are only 1:100 boxes though.

I consider them up there with TCGs and loot boxes in video games.

I don't think TCGs are nearly on the same level of bad since there's a huge market for buying singles. And buying the singles you want nearly always ends up
much cheaper than buying sealed product even when you're talking about rare cards. But with blind box toys, even a common is more expensive than a sealed box, let alone ultra rare chase bullshit.

I don't do blind boxes much because I don't like the not knowing what I'm getting. I'll usually only want one particular figure and if I buy a blind box/bag thing and don't get the one I want I get disappointed and feel like I wasted the money so I do kind of avoid them.
now on the other hand the ones I did buy I did get the one I wanted I'd say out of all the blind box/bag stuff I had a 80% success rate of getting what I wanted

I'd be down to get them if they all had a code or something that you could check what figure it is, but still keep the blind box format for folks who like the surprise. I've heard mention that some do it this way, but until it's a standard they're just a kitschy collectible with a gamblers coat of paint

The Loyal Subjects Action Vinyls feel great in-hand for the most part, and actually have some play value, so I collected a few of those.
Some Mega Construx TMNT blind bags turned up at $1.50 each at a Walgreen's so I cleaned them out and those were pretty fun.
Japanese stuff is hit or miss for me unless there's some value to the object other than just sitting there. Like little glow in the dark figures, or stuff that fits in with 1/12 toys can be nice to buy once in awhile.

I personally hate them. You never get what you want, you always get duplicates, they're already more expensive than they're worth, and that's before factoring in that you'll have to buy several to even have a chance of getting something you'll want.

I understand the thrill of pulling something rare or cool, but at the end of the day I'd rather spend that money on something more concrete

The price is just too high for me to go for the random nature of these. If they were maybe $5 sure, but (at least in Canada) these are at least $10 each and for the chance of getting something you don't want, that's pretty damn ridiculous, especially considering they're just ~2-3" vinyl figurines.

You just have to be on the lookout for specific parts. It can be hit or miss sometimes as some pieces might end up feeling like others. That said, Lego blind bags have bump codes at the bottom of the packaging, so you can use those to figure out what you're getting.
