Anyone notice that thier stuff from pre-2004 is starting to age poorly? I keep my sets displayed in great condition, but I've noticed while dusting my sets that some of the thin technic connectors and beams on the early stuff have cracked and split, just from sitting there on a shelf.

We should probably rephrase that a little bit. I put that in there for the LoMN edition which had a pic to give context, but it doesn't really work with other editions.

Tan and purple is off-putting to me personally, although I love the use of the Dimensions and Nexo Knights parts as... I dunno, are they runes or something? Overall I think it needs either a lot more greebling or none at all for consistency, 'cause the smooth CCBS elements are clashing with the more textured Bonkle and System parts.

Happens to my sets from almost all eras. A lot of normal connectors and even the lime joints from my Nui-Rama have broken, and I had a nasty incident where one of its replacement rubber bands actually melted into its body and cracked the plastic apart as it spilled into the crevices, hardening solid. There's still black stains on it where I scraped off the remnants of the rubber band.
I'm also having issues with the rounded Inika feet and Nuparu Mahri's shield, for some reason those pieces tend to crack over time in a certain spot.

That Kanohi is just fan guess, but Miserix does wear one just like all Makuta did. The best way to explain it is that when he turns into a dragon the Mask of Mutation shapeshifts along with him. Kind of like how Ultimate Dume wears his Mask.
The problem is that the contest winner Miserix is so shit it doesn't even use a Mask, but canonically he should wear it. No wonder Greg hated that thing.

It should had been recolored gold and released in the last year as a commemorative thing. Perhaps alongside a golden Mask of Shadows.
Anyway. I can see why they didn't color the helmet gold. It would had somewhat clashed with the yellow body, plus it'd lessen the toy's Bumblebee appeal.

A few of my sockets have given out and one or two mata heads have cracked, but overall, I can still pop even throwbot era sockets on and off for mocs without too much trouble. '08-'10 stuff (and certain '07 stuff I hear) is way more frustrating. Half of those sockets just split with one or two pops.

It's easy to look past the knees given the context of the toys that it interacted with from 01-02, it's definitely a flaw but I don't think it impacts the overall toy or it's almost iconic aesthetic.

Plastic is inevitably becoming brittle with age. There is no cure for it, you can only hope that the climate where you live is not too hot and try keeping it out of sunlight so it doesn't yellow.

I don't know, I'd say it could have a little effect.
Oh and sunligth damage is savage, like parts become clearer and they almost just crumble when you try to use them, this one is permanent.

My parents have been smokers since they've had me and trust, not only does nicotine stink up your collection, it also stains and makes the parts brittle. I took apart my Takadox last year and all of those blue pins with the stud top were stained navy blue and fell apart during dissembly.

While I don't know how to really fix this, I recommend you watch out.

I'm pretty sure the Maori lawsuit threat was another reason behind dropping it, because they practice an actual dance ritual called Haka, which is what the MNOG originally called it before changing the name to Takara. MNOG's German dialogue still references Haka along with Papu and Rangi cause they forgot to rewrite a couple of text files.

The story booklet for the '01 trading card game also has a few ideas they later retconned out of the lore, it's worth checking out.

Sadly it was mainly mistika-glatorian parts so I had to be very careful with them but they were all in perfect condition.

It's interesting to think about how Bonkle would have turned out had more of Lego's original plans panned out. If there was no Maori lawsuit, if the PC game came out, if Greg didn't but in with his ideas to make the Toa more relatable. The "classic feel" and world building of the early years was on companies like Advance (and thus Faber), Ghost and Templar more than Lego, and Greg deserves recognition too for keeping the early comics mostly serious instead of adhering to the more goofy tone standard for Lego themes. Even the story that we did end up getting was full of inconsistencies and underutilized ideas, and was just disorganized in general, but all these people and outside factors shaped into something more and better than what Lego had in mind. A shame Lego had the same "we don't know what the fuck we're doing" attitude towards the reboot.

CCBS is honestly a pretty great system for action figures but a terrible one for a company like current Lego.
It lives and dies from having a constant supply of parts in new shapes and colors so you can properly customise your figure in any way you want - something Lego can barely do with its bread and butter System sets.
Otherwise we'd have something like the Mixels balljoints in dozens of different colors and if they can't be arsed to recolor something as universal as those then why would or should they do the same with a more niche thing like bones and shells?

Now, if CCBS was the sole schtick of a different company that'd completely focus on a slew of new shells, armor add-ons and bones along with the corresponding Technic pieces as connectors each wave in an Assemble Borg or Hexa Gear/Frame Arms-esque way then I could definitely see the system go to places.

I know this is a big deal for many, but the (mostly) gender-locked Matoran elements and whole gender ratio thing never bothered me. It was stupid though when they broke the rule for the Bara Magna story, and only released one chick, still a water one at that. If I were to reboot Bionicle, I'd probably go the G2 route and let characters from any element be female or male just to appease people and open up more possibilities, but this whole thing was never really an important matter for me in most of the G1 story.

Set-wise, I think the Toa Metru and titan Takanuva are overrated. I do like the Metru but don't care for their odd, thin torso piece and dull secondary color, and Takanuva has a lot of unsightly gaps, pins and axles, way too flat a torso and a bad case of cracking joints due to the way his limbs attach.

To add to this, I feel having every female character constrained to one element made them feel extremely samey.
Maybe I'm just remembering things poorly but I feel that Gali, Nokama and Hahli were the same character written three times. I get that characters of the same elements share traits but I don't recall Tahu, Vakama and Jaller, or Pohatu, Onewa and Hewkii being so interchangeable for example. Granted Kiina was an obvious change from the norm which was something different at least.

The Matoran alphabet is so cool. All the little symbols correspond to the shapes of the English letters, so they're easy to memorize, but they still look alien and the fact that they're all circles makes them uniform and satisfying to look at/write in.

I get earlier names were somewhat odd to remember, but I was 8 when Bionicle started and I memorized all Toa, Turaga and Kanohi names just fine, and I'm sure I'm not the exception. Besides, later villain names were easier to remember since they used fixed schemes. This shift to English and Latin pseudowords was simply inelegant. They sounded goofy to an ESL like me, I can't imagine how dumb they must have sounded and still do to a native speaker.

I think it would have been interesting if they still utilised Matoran for most names and used different languages for stuff like non-matoran villain names, but I guess that would have been too complex

May have more to do with Greg's limited repertoire of character writing, which is especially evident on females, who tend to fall into the two samey categories: gentle and friendly, and violent and/or outright murderous.
Though Hahli already suffered from being rather generic before Greg got to write her. Templar never really managed to establish her character in any meaningful way, and even though she was described as shy on the movie DVD, we never really saw this side of her.

If you really have to stick with gender-locked Elements, why not pick something more off-the-wall like Plasma, Iron or Gravity? Now that's different from the usual blue spam.

Unless they canned G2 for different reasons than we think. There's a slim possibility they realized shooting their marketing budget in the foot immediately as Bionicle re-launched was a mistake and they pulled the plug quickly so that they could regroup their resources and try again as timely as possible.

I don't think you're really that far off. I think certain factions inside Lego, mostly lower level design people and the like, were the ones pushing for Bionicle. The higher ups probably didn't want to put the resources into it and risk detracting from their main 'big bang' themes at the time like Ninjago and Nexo Knights, thus why it took a year for them to get novels and comics out, and Journey to One came right at the end. So it wasn't really given a chance or even support. I could see it coming back but this brickset page is meaningless.

We know a large portion of Systemfags fucking loathe Bonkle and regard its fandom as a laughing stock or punching bag at best, so why wouldn't they joke about it? If this indeed turns out to be a prank, then the System fans can sleep peacefully knowing that Bionicle won't be tainting their precious toy company, and they get to play a cruel joke on the Bonklefags too, a win-win for them.

Alternatively, as others at EB have suggested, maybe there will be some new Constraction/CCBS theme, and the people at Brickset simply tagged it as Bionicle because they can't be bothered to look up the correct word.

I had one too, albeit a bit different.

I really dislike the Toa Metru a lot. Sure, they were revolutionary in many things, but they are overrated. Their color schemes are awful, their arm articulation is awkward, half of their weapons aren't even weapons, and I personally dislike their Kanohi with the expection of the Huna and maybe the Rau. I also found it very cheap how much their design(s) tried to ape Tahu's team instead of homaging their Turaga forms.
I'm ok with Lhikan and the Hagah duo, though. Better color schemes and a whole lot more original and interesting.

On the other hand, I like the Toa Inika a lot, sans their Kanohi designs (and even then, I would've liked most of them if they had worked like normal masks and lacked mouths). Their color schemes are very interesting and I'm a huge fan of their light up weapons.

Name calling me as "Armchair" and using antisemitic attacks against Disney for just doing what's best for them and Lego needs to stop. I have not been contacted by Lego to do this but everyone has to do their part to keep the community happy and positive, Lego trusts us to do what's right.

We may have disagreements with the moc but I like it and don't see anything wrong with it. I wanted to base it on classic science fiction designs, not make it look so modern. I think Paige's face came out really great and she looks really expressive.
