I don't have any real basis for it, but I'd bet anything Toa Ignika WAS actually meant to be Matoro wearing the Mask of Life, back then when 2008's protagonists were still Jaller and the others. Remember Greg and other story team folks didn't want to awaken Mata Nui in 2008. 2008's story was originally just the closure of the Ignition arc. 2008 might've been supposed to end like 2007 did, with Mata Nui dying and Matoro's sacrifice.

That raises the question though, how would've 2007 gone according to that plan? I can't help but think Karzahni (and possibly Lesovikk) was meant to be much more important than a side story villain. He was very much an enemy to Jaller's group and it was a waste they didn't meet him again after the 2006 story.

Who knew the "fanbase" of a children's toyline would be so autistic?

The Exo-Toa is great as is, even if it had knees it doesn't require any dynamic posing to look impressive among the 01-02 sets it released with. It's loaded with play features like that rad face ripper hook arm and it's flip over backpack that becomes a head for solo play. If you can get it for under $40USD, i couldn't recommend it enough.

Nah Exo-Toa is absolutely worth it. I've been debating overhauling mine to modernize it. Very limited articulation even though the design and build is solid. Doesn't need but it could certainly be improved with knees and elbows.

Can we take a second to appreciate just how aesthetic Slizers were? They have that early Technic/ Rip off lego toyline look that's hard to describe to anyone unfamiliar with all the weird technic wannabe lines from the early 2000s. Not too sure what the gear function was aiming to be meant for, other than akward articulation, but idk, it kinda works as a mohawk on some of the figures.

I will always respect the Slizers for how creative and "unconventional" they look. Compared to sets like the Toa Mata or stuff like the HF Heroes, normal humanoids you can easily wrap your head around, Slizers were more out there with their lanky arms, flat, elongated heads, odd proportions, weird functions, dinky weapons and their varied body builds. They look kinda crude and clunky, and I have seen Systemfags calling them the worst things ever, but to me they look charming and interesting. They fit so well to Lego's anything goes mentality at the turn of the millennium.
RoboRiders, though, I don't know what they were thinking there. Those are just too weird as a concept.

Who thought this looked good? I've heard that the Hordika are meant to look like shit as if that justifies anything. Vakama and Nuju are at least interesting but that happy torso for the sake of that terrible gimmick wasn't worth it.

The Toa Hordika were such wasted potential. The idea of having some kind of mutated Toa/Rahi hybrid was great and the elongated faces and asymmetry were a good start but then the just covered them in silver armour which almost just made them regular Toa anyway.

I'd say the movie did it better by making the freaky arm weaponized and leaving the other as a regular arm/claw but I guess the set designers didn't want to make them too animalistic so they didn't look like bad guys.

This, Hordika were an okay idea but stupidly and lazily executed. Didn't look enough like animalistic mutants, nor like the Metru. And despite the myriad of potential design choices allowed by the mutation backstory, they just made all of them clones. Even the Metru had more build variety. Hell, even the playset minifigs had more variety because half of them had their arms mirrored.
How much better would it have been if each Hordika vaguely looked like a different animal based on their element and their Metru tools which fused to their bodies due to the venom. And with little to no silver. Previously, silver armor and tools denoted upgrades or advancements, so they were not just aesthetically but even thematically way off on the Hordika.

'm going on the record here: I absolutely made a mistake. I messed up on this one, as soon as I tossed my hat in the ring and asserted that the summer "wave" was, in fact, not cancelled. If anyone's still in the dark, I'll be crazy clear: it's the construction community. Holy crap, it sucks. It's not one person on their own, but the vibe that gets tossed around when a group of folks aren't really sure what they're after. I don't usually say this, but it's like a giant circlejerk. I used to believe that the folks who went on about how toxic and temperamental the community was were just misinformed. Now, in the casual AFOL community, I cam't fathom why I'd ever want to go back.

Now, a funny thing happened today. It shouldn't surprise anyone to see that every guy who's been calling me out has one thing in common. No posts outside of this useless constraction figure forum. No interest in LEGO - just in this fringe community, where nothing ever happens and nothing ever will.

As for the community as a whole, I'm starting to agree with what you're saying, Constraction fags have this inherent chip on there shoulder while they nurse a serious inferiority complex and idk if it stems from Bionicle being such an immersive franchise and it's popularity during the age of single mothers so maybe it's some sort of daddy issue type thing too. Have the Hordika retain some semblance of their original selves, like recognizable masks with some mutated features, and make them more unique and individual. Like, Nokama could be a fish or mermaid, Matau a bird or a gliding lizard, Whenua a mole, and so on.

Although personally, I find the whole idea of the Hordika daft and the mutation plot forced and unnecessary. But if this is what Lego wanted to do, they could have tried harder not to halfass it like they did.

Alright for the anon who had asked, here's a quick shot of a Toa in the Exo-Toa, with the arm and leg builds you asked about.

In general, they work about the same. Honestly I could have stood to just keep Tahu's normal feet on and his legs would have fit better, but eh, hindsight and all that. Main concern I had is it takes a bit of squeezing him in just to work, since CCBS adds a bit of bulk that his original limbs didn't have. That said it does fit more or less the same once you do get him in. Just be careful or things might break (my poor exo is growing brittle, I need to replace a lot of basic parts on it).

Not really no. It's less that it's cramped I guess and more just tight getting a Toa in. Exo-Toa is solid but also incredible spacious within. There's still a good bit of room inside it so the armor isn't quite jammed against the internals.

I got them for pretty cheap last week, boxed and complete with instructions. Only problem is there was a small battery acid leak in one of the controllers and one of the motors. I don't think mixing G1 with CCBS is impossible. Some 2016 sets almost got it right, like Umarak and Kopaka. Integrating lots of Technic, which is similar to G1 in visual style, might be the key.

That is true, the arms that did use that marbled piece had horrible articulation. However the wings were awsome aswell as her mask. I've seen people make great Gorast mocs. What I liked about that wave was that every makuta was based on an animal/insect (except i dont know what Antroz&Chrirox were meant to be.)

I wonder, would the Kal have been better received if Lego went more all-out with their recolors. Like, instead of keeping their bodies and limbs standard Mata colors, what if they were fully metallic? Gahlok-Kal for example would be the same metal blue used on the Super Battle Droid Technic set. On one hand, it would have made them more unique and eye-catching, but on the other, it would have limited their limbs' MOCing potential and perhaps they would have looked too gaudy.

I feel like their eye colors being blended into the domes would be much more stricking on a color level. Nuhvok and Gahlok Kal especially. Then the silver and shields would still be there. Honestly it just comes down to the dome and I feel like the solid silver/decal one is shit. A trans color/silver would've been way better imo. They's still pop but fit better at the same time amongst the drones.
