Japan has fallen out of love with the consumerism culture it had in the late 80s to 90s, plus mecha as a genre is dead in japan, to the point where americans are picking up the pieces and shitting out the likes of pacific rimjob. A movie that is so bad, it caused gundam to die a 3rd death in the west before unicorn could even be finsihed getting dubbed.

It's the shift in the trend of popular genre for sure, the burning, action packed Moe (燃え) to cute and tamed Moe (萌え). A fair number of mecha related shows still gets made but rarely gets to the point we see toys. Even Gundam doesn't get 100% of their MS turned into kits and RDs anymore.

I only watched episode one but it was one of the worst first episodes I have ever seen in a mech show.
The robot designs are neat but the plot is terrible, the characters are generic, the setting is bland as all fuck, and there isn't much action from what I hear.

I dropped it after 3 episodes, it's obvious that they developed a big setting with lots of ideas but it still felt bland and clunky. The whole "high schoolers with bland teen MC meeting super special waifubait cute girl with mecha and convoluted world" has been done before with Guilty Crown, Aldnoah:Zero, and Valvrave, and they all failed story and character-wise.
It just feels like another bland cash-grab by Aniplex that people only continue to watch for their waifu/bland self insert and the somewhat decent animation.

I doubt it, but I really do hope GSC comes through with Figma versions of the human Darling in the Franxx characters. I respect Figuarts, and that they have their own things they're good at. But female (and hell, even male) anime characters are just better when done by Figma. Whereas SH Figuarts does a lot of other stuff better.

They blew through the lizard arc fast enough and the last few episodes were pretty entertaining.

I am a fan of unapologetic brutality though.

Video game stuff is toned down in general, but I won't say the story is amazing or anything.

Also what's your favorite this season because I need something to watch between episode releases.

Sounds like it might at least be kind of entertaining.
I probably judged it a bit too hard when I first watched it anyway since I was told it was an fantasy anime with an evil lich protagonist when it was actually a video game isekai series.
All I am really caught up with this season is Junji Ito collection.
The adaptations fall pretty flat but it is kind of nice to see his stories animated if you are a fan of his manga works.

If you watched enough anime you'll realize it's the same type of shit you've already watched 10 times by now. There's nothing original about it and the most "interesting" plot advancements are pilots rejecting their co-pilots aka "cucking" and "NTR" (because that's all the fanbase talks about). Characters aren't even interesting enough for this to be good, but whatever. Dropped at episode 3 or 4, can't even remember. Should've dropped at 1 because the first episode showed exactly how incredibly dull this show is, but I gave it too many chances in hopes it'll change.
