>>6867264this argument doesn't make sense when you consider the size of the toy aisles in Target and Walmart. or when you consider that Barnes & Noble is selling toys to make up for flagging book sales. or when you consider how many media and pop culture nerd stores (Gamestop, FYE, comic/game stores) carry toys. TRU should be eating their lunch. Why didn't TRU carry Figmas and Gunpla, like B&N?
why not comic statues, like Gamestop?
why not a fucking wall of Funco Pops, like FYE?
why not Skyrim and Zelda posters and shot glasses, like Target?
Why not MLP and Adventure Time tee shirts, like Hot Topic?
Yes, their business was flagging, yes, they were getting walloped by Amazon and internet sales, but what really killed their ability to react to market trends and innovate was the shitload of debt that got dumped on them in that leveraged buyout. the same thing happened with KB Toys. in fact, I think it was the same company that killed KB, too.
pretty hard to take out loans to experiment with new marketing strategies, business ventures, or partnerships when you are already drowning in debt
