Well what do you want? If you don't have too many pieces, having plain ones might be more flexible.
If you'd like some more detail, I'd maybe start with super integral ones like headlights and maybe some pretty abstract shapes that could easily serve a variety of purposes.
Whatever you do, leave the sponsorships for last and see what you want with them.

Reminder Brickmania has their easter sale on going which is running concurrently with their free shipping promotion. The deal can also be applied to items on discount. Picked up the Sherman tank for like 140 dollars at around .26 cents per brick. Very cheap for a custom moc especially one with a custom track links, minifgure and weapon.

I like this idea. Over time, I've sort of gone back and added to my headcanon that during the time of the yellow castle, there was one king and the leaders of the later factions were all nobles who served him. After he died, they all ended up fighting for the throne and then made their own kingdoms.

MORE LORE: the Bat Lord was one of the nobles and he got the shitty lands you see in the backgrounds of the Fright Knights sets. This led to him having the fewest followers, so he ended up stuck having to put up with that crazy witch so she could raise an army of skeletons to make up for it. He eventually took in an elf girl who was lost in the mountains and had a child with her, who grew up to be the bat lady who's the villain from the current Elves theme.

The vehicle in that one looks like a retarded miniaturized LAAT though. I know almost no one cares about the builds in these but still, it's always nice to get something that actually looks displayable in a Star Wars diorama, like a walker or a speeder.

I wouldn't expect sales to apply to lego. TLG is trying to get the stock shipped back and I doubt they'd be happy with toys r us putting them up in a clearance sale. Muh Apple product of toys just cannot permitted to be cheap.

Yea I read that too. I'd imagine that might apply to some of the more expensive sets but I'd think the smaller stuff would cost more to inventory and repack and ship back to TLG.

When the likes of K-Mart and Bennys closed they blew it all out the doors and nothing that I could tell got shipped back to TLG. This might be because the most expensive sets were around $59.99.

(Just my theory)

I don't think we are going to get any huge sets at 50% off. But it would be nice to know what they are doing.

I called over to my local one a few cities over and the girl had no clue what I was talking about. Maybe she was told to say that. Maybe she really has no clue as to what is going on.

Search for Swooshable, good website with building guides and instructions, has a mecha section. Then search for inspiration, both mechas and mocs, try to note cool details and obvious connections to re-use. Plagiarise until you can innovate. Build a frame with your points of articulation, then expand on it. If in doubt, there's mechanisms frames available from plenty of sources - bwtmt by Chris Roach is a good start if you want kits or instructions of mechs or transformers too.

When I was little, I saw commercials for the orient expedition sets in Japan,I thought those were so cool. I missed out on them, I just want some really cool Asian themed sets like a Chinese/Indian palace ect. I saw a big ass ninjago boat at the store, it looked right up my alley.

I'm sure lego pokemon would sell, but the megablock pokemon sets are really underwhelming. the small sets rely on specialized pieces and print to the point that it may as well not be buildable. there are already tons of pokemon toys that are better toys. the bigger sets are less detailed, but manage to do a good job getting the likeness down with minimal part count, but the part count is still high enough that you're buying a $30 blastoise or whatever.

they shouldn't have done angry birds, but at least it made sense with the destructible terrain. most other IPs are just minifigs. they can get away with starwars because the franchise is actually about many vehicles. Assassins creed and halo lego? no thanks. we would literally all rather have classic castle and space back.

The architecture can be pretty, the amount of monsters and bosses that could be entirely brickbuilt is fuck-huge and the potential of the most known characters being made into CCBS is immense. The Geonosis pack was already out of stock, so I got pic related instead and my god, what an adorable little set. The minifigs are great, it's really neat to see such an obscure astromech in Lego form, and the vehicle feels surprisingly solid and well-built for what's supposed to be the most negligible part of the set. If something, it's a pity the Jawas don't have capes, but ey, I can live with that.

Is it just me or it would be nice to get more small Lego SW vehicles that aren't just super deformed caricatures like the Microfighters and the occasional throwaway builds for most battle packs like >>6856213? Getting something tiny that actually looks like a plausible Star Wars vehicle is just sort of neat, it brings me back to the Revenge of the Sith days when the AT-RT and the Y-wing were what got me into Lego.

and lego's made it clear they're staying off of military themes, unsure if that would include Halo, but they have SW already as a main space/sci-fi theme
nexo knights was nice, although not actually a castle theme
they hold 4 (actually 2) of the most important licenses when it comes to toys: disney/marvel/star wars and DC, all of which translate decently to LEGO
maybe if they came to an arrangement with nintendo, something cool might be worked out, regardless, that's yet another licensed theme
even if we like it or not, licensed sets are what TLG sell the most, they're good toys, fully customizable, long-lasting and like I said, are themed after some of the more popular trends today. They don't make sets for /lg/, and most of the sets we would like to see are either too high on parts count, or would flunk sales-wise because of the general appeal. Let's face it, the target market is children and their parents and almost nobody here is a kid, almost everybody here buys their own sets, kids these days lack the imagination to exploit the possibilities of LEGO, they want backstories, popular characters, something they know and like in LEGO form, they don't want to be given a bucket full of parts to create their own story, and let's face it, us, as movie goers, nerds, whatever you call it, we sometimes crave those popular builds too, you can't deny that you own at least one piece of licenseshit, because those things are appealing man, hell, it's still stuff we grew to, Star Wars, Marvel comics. LEGO is about what (most of) the people want, and at the end of the day, that's licenseshit

I think the only other licensed theme with a billion re-releases is Marvel's Hulkbuster, which has 3 models based off of it. But even then it's comparatively palatable. I've heard the argument that it's because Star Wars is classic so the new sets give new fans (i.e. children) a chance to get toys based on the franchise.

That's all well and good, but it applies to literally everything else in the world too, so I don't really see the goal there. I see people demanding more Castle/Space/Pirate shit in this thread daily but Lego only ever re-releases Star Wars models

The castle theme isn't only castles either though. Most of the non-castle builds are boring wagons, ballistae, and catapults. I liked the new armors, shields, and visors. I know it wasn't '80s or '90s castle with the same old rounded point swords and pointy top helmets, but we already had that. That doesn't test well with kids. I'm ready for them to try new things.

I want a Deadpool badly, but there's nothing I can do, now that Disney owns him, and LEGO has the license, maybe it's just a couple of months before I can get a LEGO Deadpool

Both solid builds, the 919 is the best Le Mans Prototype so far (one of the only though) and the Ferrari pays homage to the actual first female Weathertech Sporstcar Champion Christina Nielsen.

Because Colonial period is pirates basically. Castles became mostly useless with the rise of canon and gun powder. The castles don't really resemble one particular country. You can build whatever kind of castle you like with the parts.

As I just said, fantasy era all fit into medieval folk lore. Nexo Knights does not. Fantasy era is like Lord of the Rings, it tries to fit the period without having space ships. Nexo Knights belongs more to classic space than it does classic castle.

As someone who grew up with castle, and is a fantasy nerd in general I would love to see it come back. Shitting on nexo knights doesn't help. Nexo knights wasn't a replacement for castle. It WAS castle. Regardless of what your opinion is. Castle is lego's theme to define how they want and they defined nexo knights as castle. It was their attempt to modernize a theme that isn't around now and hasn't been because it isn't financially viable. We can speculate on if kids (the primary target audience and the only one lego seems to care about) didn't like nexo knights because it wasn't pure castle, but the fact remains that not enough of them are into pure castle for the theme to come back.

Nobody wants the plain grey and :) faces. Nobody wants the simple builds from the 80s and 90s. What they want are modern builds. I do own one of the Nexo Castles because I am so desperate for castle pieces. There is no proof that kids don't want castle themes. These so called "I have talked to my lego store manager and..." accounts that people post are simply based on opinions. I have gone to various Lego stores and contacted people and I've heard the opposite opinion. They seem to think that themes like castle and pirates could make a return. Old fans seem to use the whole "kids don't want it" argument to justify the fact that these themes have had several years of retirement, when in fact Lego likely plans to cycle back to them.

Also let's not forget about Lego Movie 2. They could revisit more of these themes through those sets as well.

The proof is that lego is a multibillion dollar company. They don't throw darts at a board with themes on it. They do focus groups, they do market research. They know more about what kids want than you do, because it is their job. I'll take that over what you've heard.

They very well could cycle back to any number of themes. I've read all the speculation about them doing a castle line every X years. Maybe they made the new coke just so they could brink back coke classic, who knows. Thats kind of the point. People need to stop pretending they know lego wanted to do castle all along but president business forced them to do nexo knights. I think it's been so long that castle would do well, but it is going to depend on which subtheme. A lot has changed since the last castle wave. Waves are designed around X sets at certain price points now. They really need to come up with some $15 and $20 sets to drive interest in the theme and that is hard to do in a theme centered around "the big one" actual castle builds.

As an aside, do people that shit themselves over SW buildables not understand that a certain % of items 'warming the shelves' is to be expected. If they expect they have a market for 4 characters they make a 5th. They slowly sell them off at 20% off. Lego already made profit selling them to retailers. Retailers still make profit at 20% off. If you're seeing a ton of X warming shelves it isn't necessarily a lego problem so much as your local retailer is bad at ordering or perhaps got roped into ordering a bundle that includes the shit characters because we all know how knowledgeable toys-r-us employees are on products.

There's a video of a German Lego store owner on Youtube where he goes through the current catalog in detail, explaining what's wrong with Lego at the moment.

Basically it's focusing on the wrong things like

If so then I can sympathize as me and a few partners now have a storage locker filled with smoke damaged box sets and unorganized pieces. The fires last year were a real pain in the ass. The aforementioned storage locker suffered massive smoke damage, and while the buildings insurance will probably pay for the damages the stored-to-be-maybe-sold-later Lego is all but a distant memory now.

Funny part about all this castle shit is that if Elves were recolored it would be the best castle theme of all time. I don't really mind the colors, but I do wish it were more fantasy and had swords and armor. Pic related for $35 felt like one of the better value sets I've picked up in the past year. The dragon isn't as big as some of the other ones, but it isn't super noticeable. The house is really detailed including a really cool brick built harp. The tiny zeppelin is a great use of few parts to make a side build that actually contributes to the value of the set.

I didn't like them at first either. I still don't. The hair pieces are pretty nice usually, but are incompatible with any armor or back accessory. I wouldn't mind them as much if the articulation was as good as minifigs. Legs not moving independently and wrists not turning is pretty crap for posing or play.

They are not really exaggerating, a toy shop in a nearby town still sells Bionicle sets. I was lucky to get the set with Ekimu and that skull guy, and Umarak the destroyer. The rest there are mainly protectors, the creatures and some Pohatus. Reminder I hate license cap shit but that doesn't mean we can't benefit off of this. When Lego inevitably re-release its guaranteed sellers for star wars which it will soon due to lack of sales we can profit largely off of it. Not even three years ago people paid 129USD for an imperial star destroyer and today boxed they are selling for well over 200USD a profit margin of over 60%. Not only this but if you are worried there isn't enough liquidity you can settle for 50% or 40% which is dam amazing for an investment for less than three years considering you did well over the needed amount to beat yearly inflation.

For star wars sets the big ones are the originally trilogy Star Destroyer and AT-AT Walker. You can never go wrong with either of those sets. Other smaller and medium star wars sets are risky and usually provide more minimal returns.

Also if Lego every releases a huge set for any classic theme like castle that mirrors an ultimate collector series release buy it the fuck up. People will pay top dollar for that in a few years after release.

I like TCW CGI show, but the Anakin minifig from that line was horrible tbqh. So I'd have to agree on it being better.
Also for some reason LEGO put Palpatine's office in the Venator instead of something that actually resembles what actually goes on inside a Venator like a bridge or hangar.

Why do they never put hangars inside big ships? Since they sell microfighters and microbuilds they just sell big ships with empty hangar space to be filled up with either one of those.

You'd have to wait a hell of a lot longer than that, and even then so many people have seen the UCS sets selling for thousands that the resale markets are for the most part surprisingly stable long after release.

In the case of licensehit you would have to place your hopes in lego not rereleasing the same set you're holding on to.
Of course there's also the case where the new version happens to be worse than the old one. But that's a personal matter and I don't think it makes a lot of difference.

In my case, the most I have resold are rare CMFs within only a year after it's original release, and I did it only for the sake of financing further buys. Not that I would want to wait more to increae their resale value, in fact I buy them mostly to fuck over the local scalpers who do just that.

I live in a major city (san diego)and still see Knighton castle and some Bionicle sets being sold... this was at a marine base exchange though...

I also saw an Angry Birds castle set at a TRU express at an outlet

Good question.
For me its either too generic vehicles. Last Chima and Nexo knights sets could be Ninjago sets.
Or too much same characters that doesnt army build that well.
Or too much ip related that needs good stories to sell.

To be fair, there's a large amount of different vehicles, and you can do a lot with them in. The playability of vehicles is also really high

They keep remaking TIE fighters but haven't updated the interceptor since 2006.
Oh well at least the new one's cockpit looks good enough that one can just part it out and stick interceptor wings on it.
