there was nothing they could do to successfully adapt to the changing times quickly enough. what were they supposed to do with all of that real estate they had invested in? they were probably set up for a long period of time with their investments to expect people to pay a certain amount of money for certain toys and for a certain amounts of sales to be made. they wouldn't have been able to have enough money to just quickly change their plans and compete with random internet sites people would be willing to buy stuff from at a low enough cost and huge internet companies like amazon.
