Have you ever seen those studies where poc kids were interviewed and answered that they thought their features were inferior due to eurocentric beauty standards (and by contrast, use of their types of facial features on villlains) in the media they consumed? That kind of thing can really fuck a kid up, and contribute to low self esteem and poor body image for years to come. Consider that maybe there are people like you, who grow up happily not thinking about race whatsoever, and then consider that there are others out there who struggle with it on a daily basis. For people in the latter group, representation in media is extremely important. It shows them that white beauty is not the only beauty, that people that look like them can succeed and be heroes too. That's significant for kids.
tl;dr: I see a growing trend of poc talking about "well, it doesn't matter to me!" Maybe...maybe it's not all about YOU as an individual.
