Combiner Wars was all about Hasbro FINALLY getting off their asses after nearly twenty years, to redo the classic combiner toy system with update toy tech.
Besides doing PROPER updates of the classic combiner teams, it also had (for better or worse) the secondary aim of getting new versions of the wave one G1 Autobots back into circulation. A lot of the characters (Mirage, Prowl, Sunstreaker, Ironhide) had not had a new figure in over a decade so this was their chance to get them back out there for fans who missed out on them.
