This might seem a bit strange, but after viewing The Last Jedi on BluRay I caught myself thinking back to the MASSIVE, MASSIVE hype surrounding The Force Awakens, particularly from November of 2014 to January of 2016.

It was so much fun to join in the hype, and it seemed EVERYBODY was buying Star Wars toys. What a happy time.

After the disaster that was TLJ, I'm stuck with thousands of SW toys that now don't hold any fascination to me whatsoever.
Frankly, the only thing I liked about the prequels was the toys, if only for custom fodder.
Now even the toys are garbage.
Maybe I just grew up the day I saw TLJ and stopped enjoying the SW universe altogether.
It all feels broken and wrong now.

I do remember. Everybody was pissed off because the only decent Star Wars toys Hasbro had were black series, and yet paint apps on faces were piss-poor, the 6" line somehow deteriorated in quality and figures no longer came with cool accessories, and the 3.75" black series wasn't widely circulated enough to bother with. Episode 7 toys were absolute trash, and the hype was done by soyboy redditors that simply knew it was the next big thing rather than having a genuine love of SW. The people that hyped up TFA didn't give a shit about SW a couple of years earlier.

That statement never made sense. It must as well be "gravity is female", or "mathematics is male", it just doesn't make sense. And besides, maybe the Force doesn't want to characterize itself as female, so maybe they're pushing it into a gender role it doesn't want to be in, or whatever it is that they don't want others to do. The best Star Wars movie toyline. Tons of Jedi, tons of troopers, tons of aliens. Very articulated considering the scale and the time. Figures that had action features often had a more standard alternative if you weren't into that. Lots of vehicles. Colorful. Wish they could do something like this for a movie today. Lots of fine aliens from Force Awakens and Rogue One that will likely never get made.

Any particular examples?
I'm not trying to shit post or anything, i'm legitimately curious since i admittedly have a shitty memory and don't really remember a lot of the aliens from the sequel movies.

do people really take TLJ this personally? Anyone even slightly nerdy or "hip" knows that the disney movies are fake star wars and not part of lucas's I-VI or the the eu stuff. I'm amazed that one film can ruin everything for you guys. It must have been one heck of a blunder, but I'm still not curious enough to watch it.

Nostalgia'd hard dude, I was more into Lego Star Wars during the earlier prequel days, but in 2004 right before ROTS my dad bought me one of the Hasbro vehicles, an LAAT mainly because he wanted to play with it, and I was so in love with the look and feel of it. Then the ROTS line came out and looked 100x better than the AOTC line, and of course I was 10 and fell for the hype. I hamhanded 3 different General Grievouses and I even have the Target exclusive Mustafar variants of Obi-Wan and Anakin.
Those were the fucking days, and dat 15-POA Clone Trooper was pure sex.

It really is a bad movie, then factor in killing off all the fan favorites, all the shitty toys, and the reaction from disney and the crew, its a recipe for salt taffy that is hard to chew and harder to swallow. Forget making episode one look good, these disney ones make the damned ewok movies look like brilliant masterpieces in comparison.

I didnt care for the last jedi movie. It felt like it was rushed and they wrote the script as they went, and it feels like it drags on for way too long. I dont like the new movies, as they all feel like that, and you can tell there is no real central planning beyond make x number of movies, sell everything with a star wars logo on it. Even the media tie ins are lame unlike say the special editions and shadows if the empire or the numerous games tied into the prequels.

Fuck all the new stuff. Im going to focus on what I want from the older releases. For others, its an excuse to give up a bad habit of ovsessively collecting this crap for so long. So essentially you have failed movies, retards that make them insults fans, all the attempts to build hype have bombed, the toys really suck hard, and the fans that made star wars part of their persona for years are now having a personality crisis.

The thing is, Star Wars as a whole has a pretty poor track record as far as quality goes - five out of eight of these movies were mediocre at best. The whole franchise has existed pretty much entirely to sell licensed merchandise from the outset, the only difference this time is that we’re old enough to see it for what it is.

I was online with all the other nerds and most people were mostly OK with the prequels, if not super duper in love with it. Most hate only came after RLM's did their review on TPM.

A lot of the video games were well loved, especially the N64 pod racing game and people loved the Naboo fighter easter egg in Rogue Squadron. Toys were well liked too, except there was nothing new because of stores overordering TPM toys, so it became nothing but shelfwarmers. Those shelfwarmers weren't even of hated characters, but just random stuff.
The only thing that was hated right off the bat was Jar Jar. Everything else was treated as beautiful designs to just "that's ok" mediocrity.

TFA and TLJ hate is a hundred times worse than the reception TPM got. Even the girlie shit in TPM was loved. I'm not even sure where/when the hate came for AotC, but people were all out for the merch and the designs like nothing before it. The Clone Wars cartoons pretty much erased all hate and got hyped up for the RotS.
A lot of people gave up, including myself, for all Star Wars movies after TLJ.

Nah, there is a huge difference between the reception the prequels got and this post-Lucas crap.
I don't even hate TLJ for its SJW/feminist shit and didn't even hate TFA (dislike and general mehness), but for its complete lack of forethought put into the story and the Mary Sue-dom. If they explained why Rey was so powerful, i'd give it a pass, but she is simply just a mary sue.
Plus, the designs are weak as fuck. Even for army building kewl troopers, the ducktroopers are a joke.

Not me. It seemed way too artificial, like you were supposed to be hyped for Star Wars because it's Star Wars, not that the movie looked interesting. Like compared to Episode 3 I was actually excited for it. I haven't felt that for any of the Disney movies yet, except a little bit for Rogue One because it looked different. It also doesn't help they don't make figures of obscure and cool looking characters anymore.

The toys were at their best overall in TVC, though the Black Series (both scales) has produced some good stuff and TVC returning might bear some more good stuff once we move beyond Black Series repacks.

I really loved how back then the internet was still huge, but everything seemed smaller despite there being a hundred thousand different websites/boards/chats.
I was on AOL, ANT, thegia, GAF, mp3search, gameforms, and a dozen now forgotten other places back then.

Even though I separately didn't liked it and had 0 hype even before it was cool to hate (waited years to finally see parts of it on public broadcasting), I can say everyone else seemed to at least tolerate it. Like everyone forced themselves to like it because 'muh star wars' until that review by some unfunny group concentrated what everyone was thinking in the back of their heads. I'm proud of 13-12yo me though, since I was to intelligent too fall for the hype since the beginning.

This is complete bullshit, the whole movie was filled to the brim with femenist and left wing propoganda and actively tried to alienate the fans while having several of the frumpy sjw writers self insert into the prominent female roles. It's not just a bad movie like the prequels, but it ectively shoves an ideology down your throat, while the cast crew and "journalists tell you to move on or get with the times.

The prequels ironically had more politics but never tried to shove a political agenda down our throats, nor did it try to alienate old fans.

The only thing the new star wars did better than the prequels was camera work and less cgi. That's it. If this movie came out without the starwars branding it would've fucking tanked and everyone would've saw it for what it was, but it's not the case because of how much money Disney is pumping into the palm greasing machine.
