>>6873071Toys are a dying thing. Media is the future of the Transformers. Hasbro wants more control over the media, which is why they own an animation studio and why they want to own a movie/TV studio as well. You probably heard about their failed attempts to buy Lionsgate.
TakaraTomy is only doing toys, so they are struggling to find a viable future. That's why they have pushed the adult collectors market with TF Masterpiece and Diaclone Reboot. If Diaclone sold better, we'd see Microman Reboot as well.
TakaraTomy is more than happy to use the cheaper factories that Hasbro uses. It's cheaper for their own bottom line, which keeps them afloat longer.
Hasbro and Paramount are currently working on the movie reboot, the build up to it and the ultimate tie ins. TakaraTomy have been given a voice in the planning, but mostly they are just along for the ride at this point.
We'll see stuff for their nostalgia market, since that's most of their sales now. That's why Hasbro is happy to give them their Star Saber and others.
