The leg shells are mockups that are painted but my guess is they weren't officially molded yet. A lot of new figs have had 3D printed/hand painted pieces before during reveal so it's possible. Think Ekimu in 2015 at NYTF.

I tried making some Galidor mocs using the ratchet joint bricks, but parts of the torso just got in the way of the articulation. and I never really liked the guy's barbie-like expression. always wanted to make like a Generator Rex type character.

May be its because i sort of work with toys/drawings but i can clearly see this is a very very good custom. Porbably with 3D printing involved.

I'm only disappointed because Lego needs more original IPs. It's just strange the only ccbs we got at the moment is Star Wars. I'm not sure how well it sells because I see tons of it on shelves and not sure if the non unhelmeted/ masked human characters sell, those get clearanced.

I'm up for anything or even a return to Technic with the strange taller more articulated mini figurse, Slizers/Throwbots, Bionicle (for the third time), Galidor, or Hero Factory.

It's bullshit because if it were system or CCBS it might have a fighting chance. The bigggest issue with Galidor was the restricted and frankly ulgy looking system/glinching gimmick. But instead of Lego making their own crazy sci-fi fantasy IP they'd rather suck mouse cock for as long as possible and only give us constraction and space themes under the blanket of Star Wars. And hell, I'd be fine with buying these hypothetical Galidor figs because they wouldn't have a needless liscencing fee tacked on. SW turned me away from constraction because of the ludicrous prices Lego expected us to pay for their figs.

Just realized I could post some mocs we've been working on. For the ten years anniversary of Phantoka/Mistika, me and a friend were thinking of re-imagining all the Toa and Makuta as fuckhuge machines. I'm not as good as he is with big mocs, but still worked on this pohatu. Pretty happy with the result. The toes can split and hide lightsaber hilts, inspired by different Gundam mechs.

And here is Onua. Both were made to present at an exhibition we had the past week in France. Onua is way more in line with the "bigger is better" concept he had in mind, and can also transform slightly (and I totally don't have pictures of that). The back of the legs can extend for more support from the threads hidden inside them.

I was always under the impression that they were closer to robotic than biological, but acted as a living organism. So they're biological more so in the sense that they aren't simply machines.

But then as the series goes on, it's explicitly mentioned how they have fleshy muscles and such.

I haven't been keeping up with Greg's post-cancellation reveals, but I think he avoided the subject of whether their brains are organic or not.
Matoran, Toa and Turaga have lungs and semi-exposed muscles like in the movies, but they're mostly mechanical. So are most other living species in the Matoran Universe. The Skakdi have organic faces and spines I think, judging by how those are made of rubber in the sets. Stuff like Bohrok and Rahkshi are fully robotic with only the controlling Krana and Kraata being organic. Some Rahi like the Fenrakk spider apparently have hair.
The Bara Magna people are mostly organic, they're born instead of built or created, but they have mechanical implants.

The exact extent of their organic-ness was never explained, and I don't think even the writers truly understood what the word "biomechanical" meant, because on the 2nd movie DVD, they even describe the Vahki as such. But those are full-on robots.

Nothing suggests their brains are organic as far as I remember. I'm fairly sure they just have lungs and muscles. Perhaps a stomach of some kind, since it's possible for them to eat food with their mouths (they usually just prefer not to and instead absorb the food's energies through their hands), but I doubt they have any sort of meaningful digestion system because everything they consume becomes pure energy.

The entire franchise loved that. It's weird to think how few of the toys actually represent the original state of a character. Almost everyone is transformed, mutated, upgraded, downgraded or disfigured, and they all have a backstory to go with it. And those figs that are still their "standard selves", well most of them got mutated in the side stories.

And even with so many transformation to go around, it's kinda dumb that the idea of rebuilding oneself barely ever factors into the plot. You'd think a Lego series would take advantage of that.

Why did they give the 2016 toa JUST-tier silver on their masks when literally none of them use silver as a main color. In fact, 3 use gold instead. It looks so ugly. Kopaka is barely salvageable if you give him gali's blue crystal things.

The only reason I bought multiples was because too many parts broke, and i didn't know how to use bricklink back then. I also have the Golden Kanohi Ignika, which I bought seperately from Toa Mata Nui.

Sadly for me, I got into Bionicle only in 2007, so I have a lot of catching up to do. and, while I bought the Toa Mata and a couple Toa Nuva, many (and I mean MANY) of their ballsockets are loose as fuck and need replacing. I also am missing Lehvak's canister clip, Tahu Mata's canister, Gali's instructions, and all of the Toa Mata posters except Kopaka's. Fucking ebay sellers are shit.

any idea if Bricklink sellers are "higher quality"?

Well, if you don't need boxes and instructions, you could try buying just the loose parts from BL. It may be a bit cheaper. Generic Technic and CCBS are usually dirt cheap, it's the more unique stuff that costs you more

I hate how this fucking company keeps upscaling it's toys to sell them at a higher price. The protectors were priced higher than the basic Hero Factory sets (equivalent to the lesser three masters) such as Breakout Evo and Stringer which were bigger than them. Meanwhile the design, media and plastic quality has gone down the crapper.

I had to pay a bit extra for Ekimu and the Quake Beast because I never saw the summer 2016 waves in any stores and the online Lego store didn't have them in stock by the time I realised that I'd have to buy them online, but I managed to get all of the other sets for their original prices, and even got the Ekimu/Kulta two-pack for £13 because whoever was supposed to price them must not have been paying attention.

I've been thinking about this for a while and I came to the same conclusion (doesn't take a genius, admittely). Financial problems are bad for any company, yes, but those were what led them to try out some of the weirdest shit they could come up with (like just about anything from the mid 90s to the very early 00s), which also led them to create Bionicle.
Then they got back on track and managed to reach financial stability, until they grew to today's success. But why bother being creative when people will flock to buy 100€ gray ships for 1 or 2 rare minifigs? Which brought us to the current state of Leg Godt.
But things aren't eternal and might change soon like >>6883938 pointed out. 2017 brought the first Lego sales decline in 14 years, which they blamed on SW toys being oversatured in general, but I doubt that's the only reason.

So I was thinking. Would ANYTHING in G1 story have to change if Teridax had remained as THE Makuta, undestructible evil force of nature like he said he was during early G1, and have Brotherhood (members, not the whole organization) be just other creatures who happen to like the chaos Makuta brings? Only real issue from the top of my head would be Miserix, and even that can be changed to something like he was the leader of Quality Rahi Inc, and Makuta came to their factory and started corrupting the workers.

I don't know, I personally feel like the plot about them being good guys originally who keep watch over their own island is pretty reliant on there being multiple. Otherwise you just have this one all-powerful dude being more tyranical from the start, by controlling all of his minions to keep watch instead of having a group of (more or less) equals on the job.

I'd keep at least a few other Makuta around, but far less than how many there were in canon. There were too many of them and they often came of as so petty in the writing. I say limit their numbers to only a few, ditch the name Teridax, but still keep him the most formidable and secretive. I love the plot point of him sending his brethren to a death spot without telling them, because they were the only ones who could have stood up to him, so there needs to be at least a few.

Also, lets remember that even before they revealed that there was an entire brotherhood of Makuta, Lego already intended to turn the "force of nature" aspect on its head, because they didn't know how that concept could have been sold as a product. Makuta was supposed to be revealed as misguided but having well-meaning intentions in his own twisted way, and not fully evil. Then the movies happened and turned him into a Saturday morning cartoon villain, and then Greg took over.

On one hand, the Karda Nui Makuta actually didn't even need to be Makuta and could've just as well been something else, since they were just stronger than average enemies without much plot relevance.
On the other, like >>6884986 pointed out having Teridax being the sole member of his species changes his backstory and motivations, since he'd be just one lonely super powerful dude with little to no equals.
In order to play the "rebel god" angle you should at least group him with other equally powerful characters that never got an actual species (like, say, Karzahni and Artakha), unless you choose to keep a select few Makuta aside from Terry Ducks himself.

A happy medium could be reducing the number of Karda Nui Makuta (about 4-5 including Teridax), with the other Karda Nui antagonists being some elite servants, like Shadow Toa. That'd make their defeats a bit more credible, perhaps without having to nerf them.

They were never really defeated though. Even beyond the fact that half were blind and the other half mutated, none of them were trying very hard. They didn't have to, because the majority of them wanted the Toa to achieve their goal.

Repostan this in /biog/ because it's partially general relevant. Gave my makooti some tweaks and wanna know what you guys think. Anon you replied to, I actually did just that when I first constructed him. Used Terak's claws for toes and fingers, some Monster Hunter purple crystals for the thumbs, 4l armor shells for the fists in the torso, red ribcages were purple, Terak armor on the knees, and then the trans red technic liftarms were replaced in black. Really not much to it. I opted to change him back to red though because I also have the Mask Makers below him and I didn't want two purple Makutas. I might have some pics on my old Ipod touch, but I doubt it.

Someone actually started it (just the legs were missing I think), but I can't find it. It did look better than the orange, but it also looked a bit too harmless.
My humble opinion is that the purple is a good pick (better than the orange for sure) but he needs an aggressive accent color that makes him pop out more. Makuta the Mask Breaker had the right idea with pink and red.

Judging by how contrived and inconsequential the story was, I don't think it would make much of a difference. The Toa collect all the keys, Umarak steals them, opens the portal to release Makuta and his minions. Gali is trapped in the shadow realm or whatever and Ekimu takes her place as the blue set for the final year. Ekimu uses the mask of time to upgrade the Toa again, and they go punch Makuta in the face with unity. Umarak and the elemental beasts have no resolution because they have no further role in the story after Makuta is released and the Toa are upgraded, and don't play into the year 3 gimmick; forearm/weapon gear functions.

All my family members knew I was into bonkles (all my money went into lego too), but no one knew which ones I already owned, that's also why I didn't get any more toa after metru before buying them myself because they thought I owned them all.
As an adult I just have compulsive buy problems for loose parts/sets, I usually buy at least 5kg of parts a year.
btw as the "multiple times" doesn't do justice to my collection, I have takutanuva like 6 times, same for the entire fucking metru nui year except likhan (only two times);
I'm also not really sure about the bohrok/bohrok kals because those were the first ones I got.
I store them in my house, it's still enough for now but I have to sort them so I can find things (my gold ignika is still MIA after putting it on my good guy).

I remember writing down which ones I wanted, then letting family members know which specific one they should buy.
Somehow even having the name, number and color given to them didn't stop them from buying the wrong ones at times.

Okoto is actually on Spherus Magna, long after Teridax was killed, with most of the stories and people of those times forgotten. The people were offspring of the Agori which explains why they had no elemental powers, but somewhere along the line people came up with a way to make Kanohi that even Agori can use, but it got watered down, and in the end masks only gave elemental energy, excluding the two big ones

Okoto is part of a simulation and Ekimu is the only being to know what it's actually happening. The Skull Raiders were led by someone (not Kulta) who had some sort of suspect and was trying to get some information by Ekimu.

If you wanted to expand on it, the first thing that came to my mind was having a unique function for each set, like one's arm turns into a sword with a compact gear function/flip around to reveal arm sword ala Piraka, or another might have a series of building techniques working in tandem from torso to elbow to create some form of karate chop mechanism.

Any Kanohi Nuva (sans maybe the Miru) or Gali Mistika's look worse than the Great Rau. That and the Elda. You know, the Noble Rau looks pretty ugly too.
Why did Toa of Water almost always get the short straw? I swear only Gali Mata and Hahli Mahri actually look cool. Hahli Inika looks good aside from her mask.
