HotToy enthusiasts, judging from the promo pics of the upcoming Thanos would you say there is anything that one who isn't familiar with the line should be mindful of?

All rubber deteriorates with time and wear. Think about your shoes or tires, and consider that the rubber on a toy is much thinner. Posing and exposure will reduce the lifespan, so try not to handle it too often and place it in a sealed display case at all times.

HotToys has gotten to be a meme in toy collecting, as fast as people are picking it up as fast as the same people are selling off their msib figures from the last MCU movie. And the prices nowadays, If you can afford it good for you go ahead. I've completely given up on HTs and sold off all my movie figures except for the early days military figures.

I personally wouldn't go for a hot toys of whatever latest blockbuster is out because these things are expensive and it's hard to tell if something new will be worth displaying 5 years from now.

The only two hot toys I have are of iconic characters from classic movies, and the only other one I really want is a Keaton Batman.

But if you are really into Thanos and can afford it then I'd say go ahead.

What has the range of your playtime been with him? From what I have gathered, these toys are not a qualified for a 'pose-a-thon', but have some range.

Did you pose him out of the box and leave him there for all the years?

Valid point. The obvious factor is that shoes and tires are used constantly, hence the rubber used in them is bound to be more resilient.

I can assume any half brained collector can understand these toys are not meant to be posed constantly to the likes of the Figuarts line. But its good to know about the long term possibilities of an investment that costs more than $300..

I don’t play with my Hot Toys at all. But his poses have changed a few times a year. Sometimes I change his pose for photos but his range is somewhat limited due to his entire coat being made of the synthetic rubber. I change his pose less often than my others, not because I’m afraid of the rubber cracking , but because he really can’t pull off the kind of poses you see in most Hot Toys

I personally see very little posting about the line hence why I decided to make this post. I've always figured the high price point keep the point of entry and discussion rather limited.

What personally had you move on from the line? I'm personally not so sure about collecting many entries in the line.. Just well done villains, which I feel Thanos may be the first in my opinion.

That's a pretty good point.. I was tempted to get the HotToy Ultron when it came out, but that thought dawned on me. I didn't feel he'd be worth it in the long run and in hindsight it was the right move.

Entering the territory of 'TMI' here, but Thanos has my interest because he's the main event of the entire MCU. Having the top end collectible of the only MCU villain that didn't turn out to be a throwaway seems awesome enough to where I'm considering saving up for it.

Investing in iconic characters for this line does seem like a safe bet. In my case I'm alright with having a 1/12 version for most of those characters. Just wanting to go big for the big bad!

Just did some deep reading on the plastic bodies that this Thanos and plenty of Hot Toys entries use. Apparently they are destined to experience deterioration and cracking to some extent after so many years. Unless one absolutely never touches their figure I guess?

How do you HT collectors manage this? Does this not discourage you from certain HT releases?

Couple Questions. Were do you display them? are they in a case or just on a shelf?

If the answer to your first question is "they are on a shelf" I have a follow up question. Is there an AC/Heater vent anywhere near that shelf? Because that could very well have something to do with it. Having hot air blow on your doll for hours on end for days at a time will fuck with it

I own the Hot Toys Ultron but that's because I'm a huge fan of the character (the comic version I mean) and I still really like the movie design and Spader's performance, even if the movie itself wasn't that good. I don't regret the purchase one bit, and yet in stark contrast to that, I kind of regret getting the Hot Toys Red Skull. It's a great figure from a great movie, yet I only really bought it out of novelty despite the fact that I never liked the character until the movie itself.

So really, buy out of genuine interest and don't just buy into hype unless you've deliberated on multiple factors (design, character, figure execution, even your personal view of the movie/source etc.)

Maybe 7-10; 4 years ago was probably when HT was at their peak as far as licenses and likenesses go. Some of their best work was from that era. Remember, 4 years ago was only 2014.

I primarily collect 1/12 figures and I've become fond of the idea of having "Leader" or "Boss" figure/statue for each franchise I collect. For the my Monster Arts I ordered a Godzilla Resin Kit and after seeing the HT Thanos I figured he'd be a great candidate for my Revoltech/Figuarts Marvel collection!

i wouldnt be too worried about the deterioration. the only hot toys figures where that has been a consistent problem is very old ones like pre 2010. i have regularly posed/played with mine and displayed them on open selves for years and have experienced no problems with seamless joints. my concern is range of motion. hot toys usually does some clever photography to make poses look more natural when any other angle would look like shit because the figure is unable to do anything dynamic. notice the bent gauntlet arm is a replaceable arm suggesting that the normal ones wont bend even that far. shame since third party seamless figures have very good range.
