Sold nearly all of my Star Wars SHF recently (including Chewbacca) except for ANH Luke and Han and apart from the Vader coming out this month I was done with the line, but goddamn RotJ Luke was a figure I've always wanted so I preordered him the second he went up.
The new Chewie is kind of tempting as well, I was going to collect the Episode 4 cast but TLJ sort of soured my SW passion really, but I'll wait and see how Leia turns out before really deciding. Is Old Ben going to shoot up in price after release you think?

It's because Rogue One respects the lore and in-universe consistency the most out of all the new films. And, despite being a prequel, it does more to expand the setting than TFA and TLJ combined.

Also the characters are believably flawed and seem to have an actual purpose rather than be blank mouthpieces to push some agenda.

I think troopers will sell out relatively quickly, followed by jawas, because troopers and aliens always go first.
Lando might sell ok, based on having a comparatively cool and flashy outfit and some people just wanting a Donglover action figure.
Solo and the DS officer will probably pegwarm, and Tarkin will probably not even reach retail.

Took a crappy picture of my Luke in case anyone wants to see how he looks in person, rather than the promo shots.

The dot printing on the face is a more obvious on this than my other figures (e.g. Han). But from a distance he's okay.

He's strictly 1 per customer at most places though which I think is sensible, so chances are good he'll pop up again before release. Just keep an eye out.

I got the wampa set, that was the only thing i wanted at all. I had to use a DPCI code to get them to get it from the back, the target i got it from had nothing solo related out except a fucking puzzle. Apparently Target fucked up with re-set dates and Walmart is just ass and doesn't usually stock toys in a timely fashion. I went to Walmart today and most of their toy section was barren with only a few toys strewn about for the movie Rampage and some Wrestling stuff. They had tons of their 3.75 Black Series Finns and Leias though, still collecting dust.

I think it felt more in line with Star Wars we'd previously gotten, but I think it did way too much stupid shit for me to like it. I just don't like the entire premise. The consistent failing of the Empire is hubris throughout the original trilogy. So to have Death Star's flaw being manufactured takes away from that for me. Like the screenwriters didn't get that when watching the original movies. Also if this guy put a flaw in the Death Star why would he still make it nearly fucking impossible to trigger? To the point where only the son of the most powerful Jedi ever could pull it off, who AT MOST he knew was fucking around on some desert planet in hiding.

And that's not even to mention just the flaws it has narratively where plot points are just dropped, way too many characters, none of which are properly set up and developed. I mean if you're going to kill off everybody anyway, you really need to put work into building an investment in them so when that happens it registers something from the audience. But we never really have a firm grasp on how these characters really feel about each other despite the fact that they're supposed to be this team by the end. So come the end as they are getting picked off one by one, none of the beats are earned. Which the filmmakers HAD to know like "oh shit nobody cares about these characters dying and that's our climax" to which they respond with by throwing an unnecessary Darth Vader scene afterwards that totally clashes in tone just so the fans can leave the theater talking about how badass that was and not about how great the characters were.

I don't think The Last Jedi is a good movie, but I respect it for acknowledging the prequels. The prequels introduced this whole idea of the Jedi not being so great and being full of themselves. It established that all that talk Obi-Wan made of the good old days of the Jedi in A New Hope were through rose tinted glasses. TLJ picked up on that which I respected.

A flaw is a flaw, and it was a flaw that was secreted away and not obvious, or needed more reinforcement to protect it.
There'd have been other ways to take it out, like sending in commandos into the base to take it out internally.

Rogue One took nothing away from ANH, because everyone overlooked the flaw and thought it was well protected. It's still like you say, the Empire's hubris led to their downfall. Whether Luke did it with magic or not is kinda missing the point that the Rebels still thought it as possible without any magical powers.
Luke's magic just made it easier for him, but do you want to downplay his success as a rookie because he had that magic and call it a bad movie? PRobably not, because it's a fucking fantasy movie about the protagonist winning the day.

Rogue One had good world-building but that's all it was. The plot was miserable. It was a boring travelogue. They go from Planet A, find out info that leads them to Planet B, go home to Planet C then decide to go to Planet D then they all die.

I was hoping for what the plot was set up as - an exciting heist movie with interesting characters that weren't the usual Star Wars personality types. Instead we got a drab slog with no plot twists and thinly drawn characters.

The battle scene at the end is exciting but before that the movie is borrrrring. The characters are blanks and hardly have any characterization(they kill off the only character with any internal conflict early on - Forest Whitaker's). I thought Jyn Erso was going to have some sort of conflict going into it but the actress they hired was so dull I thought she was asleep for most of the movie.

It felt like something some not-very-creative little kid would've come up with by slamming his toys together and making "pew pew" noises. Nothing happened that was unexpected.

The Last Jedi has a shit-ton of flaws but I was constantly surprised by the story's turns and I thought it was entertaining. It skewed a lot closer to the prequels but that's not necessarily a flaw for me.

I got the figures I wanted: DST, Tarkin, and 4-LOM (ordered from DorkSideToys, these aren’t available anywhere for a fair price in my country). I was almost tempted to get the jawa but I have enough 3 3/4 jawas and this one doesn’t look much better imo. That’s more desirable figures in one wave than I’ve seen in a long time.
The Range Trooper is one of the worst trooper designs in any SW movie. Those big robot boots and fur collar make it look like a pimp. It looks like something the Sucklord would come up with.

I had both before I gave away my Black Series Chewbacca. The Black Series Bowcaster was pretty big (so was Chewie), so I imagine it might look out of place. The scale for the SHF is just right. The BS bowcaster also had a horrible problem of falling apart too. I had to super glue mine.

Rogue One was a simple action movie and it worked.

TLJ worked at nothing it aimed to be. Horribly thought out story, boring action scenes, innane twists, and it plodded along so damn slowly and unnecassarily.
I never thought I'd ever see a boring space battle in my life, yet there were two right there in TLJ. Nothing is redeemable about this movie. It's not the worst movie ever, but it's as D as D can get.
I kept hoping it'd pick up, but every fucking new scene was as bad as the last one, yet it kept me hopeful that SOMETHING would be good... so maybe that's the only good thing about this movie.
I regret not leaving the theater after that idiotic twist with Dr Sattler that went nowhere, but hey, at least I can have an opinion about the entire boring rot that it was.

The designs were all shit. I'm surprised no one even has mentioned the pizza dreadnought or Gold Finger's superduper wing star destroyer as being toy worth.... is there even a toy of that shit? No one has brought shit up about about spaceships from this movie.
Fuck, at least FA had people wanting the updated XWing and RO had the tanks, construction ATAT, but this one? Nuffin.
Irredeemable.

Apparently some people are finding new figures out at Walmart and Target, but Target had the wrong re-set date, which for them was apparently listed as as for this Sunday, though the toy cases clearly state they're supposed to be out yesterday, which is why some stores may have toys out, but others were too lazy to read the street date on the cases.

So why not do a proto Snowtrooper instead? Phase 2 Clone helmets are based heavily off of Stormtrooper helmets because they evolve into them once the Empire is erected. Similar to how the FO Storm and Snow are evolutions of the previous iterations. Range trooper, while I like the design, is stupid. If they're in a snowy environment why not make a pre ESB design that actually looks like it's next step in evolution would be the Snowtrooper? As is, the Rangetrooper design has more in common with the Tanktrooper. I'd assume the same guy keepsgetting hired to make new empire variants and he has a hard-on for the flat plates and visor look.

I only started collecting Star Wars stuff again last year (with the Black Series 40th Anniversary line), and only found out about the existence of Figuarts stuff last week thanks to /toy/.

I picked up a few Figuarts and a Mafex Boba Fett, and I'm pretty happy with these things, and I vastly prefer the sculpted clothing over the cloth bits that scale so badly that some Black Series figures have.

It's definitely a new sculpt, the mask/helmet are vastly different. SHF has always been shorter than the competition though.

Mafex currently holds the title of best Vader in my opinion.

I got Tarkin in the other day and he feels kind of... I don't know, clunky? The face is great and they even gave him a better neck than the usual disc hinge so he can tilt side to side, but the arms are weird.

The rest of his torso seems like it's a slightly changed reuse of thrawn but the arms go in much deeper at the shoulders so they never drop straight down naturally. It looks like his armpits are itchy and he's holding his arms out or something. The elbows are definitely worse than thrawn's too.

I really can't say enough about the face, though. I'm glad they didn't do him until now for that alone.

My Walmart finally had the Solo stuff, and other collectors had hit them before I could. Thankfully they left me one each of the troopers. Picked up the Kessel Guard & Lando and I'm not sure if I regret it or not. Kessel Guard is cool as fuck and I already want another one, but the Lando is scrawny and has little chicken legs and kinda metrosexual.

My Walmart also apparently really beefed up on the Worst Falcons, and the boxes look embarrassingly tiny even. No book-shaped landspeeders, which was a shame. Woulda bought one.

Even in the 70's most Star Wars fans didn't collect 12 inch figures. The scale is pretty outdated and not collector friendly with limited selection on figures to collect.

This was also released during the peak Star Wars boom around in the time before Episode 2 had come out. All the time from like the beginning of the 90's when all there was were bendable rubber figures all the way through to around the year 2000 were major collector booms, due to a lack of availability of Star Wars figured from later portions of the 80's to early 90's until Power of the Force 2. And the Special Editions and hype for Episode 1 was just building and building in a way that no movie could realistically have ever matched the hype at that time, no matter what, creating a speculator market where people were hoping their figures would be worth money in the same way that the 70's and 80's figures were.

For all I see news outlets and media criticize the new Star Wars movies for being "glorified toy commercials," they've really dropped the ball on actually, you know... producing the toys?

Some of the new designs are just impractical in scale as part of their short-sighted "bigger is better" mentality. Are we ever going to see a gorilla walker in scale with the standard figure line? Or even half-assed in scale with it, like the AT-AT most of us grew up with? The answer is no.

Likewise, SOMEONE at Lucasfilm must recognize that old fans don't give a shit about the new aliens. They're ugly and bland droopy-faced background guys, or overly exaggerated caricature people. If some of the new characters (CHARACTERS, not background stand-ins) were iconic Star Wars aliens--rodians, twi-leks, aqualish, trandoshans, ithorians, they would've made bank.

As it is, I think the only sequel-trilogy figures I've bought were the red-helmet guy that was gonna smuggle Finn to the outer rim, Constable Zuvio, and the Jakku scavenge-speeder. 2/3rds of them didn't even appear in the movie--that's how hard-up their toy lines are. They know the movie stuff won't sell, so they have to turn to deleted scenes in lines that are already damned sparse.

Well My local TRU closes Monday, the rest close Tuesday in the UK.
I went and there was nothing there. I wanted Hux and 3-PO but they were gone. There was just a wall full of roses. I picked one up and two Toryn Farr's that where still there. One was stuck on to the Bastila Shan cardback. I also picked up the disney infinity set with Ahsoka and Anakin. It's not bad for a display piece.

TFA Han for most of it. The arms are from the Death Star Trooper, the shoulder pad is from Kanan, but I've since replaced it with one from a Chandra Nalaar Funko put out ages ago that goes for, like, $6. Belt is from Farmboy Luke and holster from Cassian.

The blaster and saber are from the Casting Cave. You can still get the blaster listed under Rebel Blaster on there but the saber is gone, sadly. You might get lucky if you email them though.

Blast effect is from a Sneak Previews Zam Wessel figure.

He cost a lot and took awhile, but he was fun.
