Do I dare, /toy/?

I've been on kind of a Swamp Thing kick lately and snagged this guy off ebay for cheap. I was originally completely planning on opening it, but it's in such good condition I almost don't want to. Or maybe like slit it open on three sides so I can put it back in?

I can't open this my Benedict collection.
1) i don't want to open regular figures because they look badass only due to cool cover artwork. And they will be just small awkward figures out of the box. Im not diggin their sculpt that much
2) i think i won't open that car-box. Because it's glued and i don't want to ruin it. There is a way to open it with a knife or hot fan but still it will be ruined.

So im leaving it like that. My only "collector's items".

Keep it in the package, buy another loose, or one with a worse condition card or bubble. I have a few kenner aliens moc, but bought a few cheaper in bad shape moc just to open.

At least with shorter lines like swamp thing and aliens and other kenner properties, there isnt 500 characters to collect. A dozen or so figures and a handful of vehicles/playsets.

Also Swamp thing seems pretty plentiful and easy to get ahold of. Smaller lines like that seem like an ok thing to keep MOC. People with like 300 marvel legends still in the boxes confuse me, but small, self-contained line seems reasonable.

It's a kids toy line but the figures have a nice style to them, although Swamp Thing is the only one I wanted. His wave just came out. They're only like $7-$8 and all have a couple of accessories.

I think the show is cancelled, im really worried about the lobo bike they showed off and when i asked about it in the DC general no one responded to my question. And i had to go to two walmarts to look for swamp thing. I didnt know the wave was even coming out and i discoverd him on the back of mr freezes cardback.

That would make me feel better, yes. All the stuff is from Micheal's. I think it's their own line of grennery and it was all on clearance. It's one of those things that goes on clearance fairly often, but I think they always carry it.

I it acquired with its box 'mask' and always keep it after use.

I've exposed it to the Sun of the summer, to the land dry and sharp, intense moisture, mud, vegetation and torrential rains, and until today my Swamp Thing figure remains the same as l to buy years ago, no idea as others try their figures but I can tell that my Swamp Thing this impeccable and is still one of my favorites in my collection

I love this damn figure!

I only can speak by my saying that Swamp Thing figure is not difficult of acquiring, I've seen it several times and the price is not very high, (compared to the DC Direct version with wings) perhaps on Ebay have chance to find it at a good price.

The amount of articulation doesn't really matter, i think. IT's how well that they can use it that matters.
IT also depends on the character/design.

Figures like this Rancor is pretty shit in terms of amount of articulation it has, yet the range of motion gives it about as much of movement and poseability as you saw in the movie. So it's actually a very fun toy.
Then there's the troll, which has more articulation than the rancor, but it's less poseable. And the range of motion is also piss poor, where ball joints and ball-hinges get almost nothing but swivel quality range. So it doesn't move like how you'd expect something so large to move, like the LotR trolls or pretty much any giant monster in a movie, like the rancor.

So for something that looks human, or is man shaped, it needs a good amount of articulation so it doesn't end up looking like a McStatue. Looking stiff isn't good.

Sometimes if the packaging looks nice and I still want the figure out for pics, I will carefully cut open the plastic with an X-acto knife. I try to make it so I can redisplay it without seeing the cuts.

Figures like Darth Vader, a Cyberman or Robocop, who could barely move in the films, don't really need super amounts of articulation.

Remember Monev the Gale from Trigun? Super articulated figure, most of it was useless and the toy could barely pull off more than 2 useful poses. The joint cuts were at odd angles and didn't really do a great job, as if it was all added last minute.

I keep a few select figures on package, mostly out of nostalgia. I don’t actively seek them out, but if I find them at a thrift shop or comic store I’ll add them to my collection. It reminds me of going to stores as a kid and studying all the packages to decide what to buy, which is almost as much of an experience as the toy itself. I miss the days where original art and bios wee a common thing on packages.

My rule is general if a character has another, better figure, or I can easily get the same figure loose for cheap, I’ll keep it in package. Conversely, something like MOTUC, I’ll always rip off the cards, because those need to be posed

Also, DC just released a huge omnibus with the complete original Swamp Thing series and the Pasko run, along with announcing that Moore's run is finally getting the Absolute treatment, in the form of a director's cut recolored version ala Sandman.
