I have been building Kotobukiya FA: Gs and MDs lately, and have noticed a ton of crossover appeal between doll and figure collectors with them. Some people build them like action figures, and some people dress them like dolls (and some do both).
I have pondered what the internal distinctions are that cause someone to enjoy one and not the other, and while I think some of it is gender-expectation conditioning from childhood, I don't think that it entirely.
Whatever the reasons, I find it fascinating that hunmanity collects and obsesses over miniature, stylized, and idealized versions of ourselves.
