I'm story for making this thread but I've searched everywhere I could. I'm french and I've been looking to buy some pledge with future or any order kind of product that would work the same. However, everytime I look in stores I never find produits containing acrylics.

Since, as far as I know, Pledge isn't sold in France, does anyone know what I should be looking for ? Or even better, would anyone from France coule help me with maybe a product that could fit ?

It's basically clear acrylic paint. If you can't find an equivalent floor polish, buy clear acrylic paint from hobby shops (tamiya, mr. hobby, testors, vallejo, humbrol, etc. whatever brand's available). You will need to thin it yourself using water and some alcohol.

Question: Do you need to polish your floors? If not, just go for clear nail polish. It's cheaper and works just as well.

I've been using nail polish for a little over a decade and others have been using it long before me. There's been no adverse side effect so far.

You're only going to need a minuscule amount over a long period of time for joint tightening purposes, So there's no point paying more and being saddled with a useless bottle of polish.

But if you need to polish your floors, then by all means, get the floor polish.

Tried nail polish. It was garbage.
Pledge is the way to go. For balljoints at leat. But will it work on those pesky loos pin joints that have to support lots of weight?

Nail polish works decently for simple things like balljoints, but its crucial weakness is that it's very thick and globby. Pledge is very liquidy and runny, which allows it to be dripped between hinge joints and into parts that cannot be taken apart.

I don't know which scale you collect, I collect 1/6 scale figures and I've used krazy glue (super glue) for years now as a way to tighten lose joints, just a small drop then flex the join until the glue is dry, it will tighten them up pretty good but you got to keep flexing them or else you will fuck up.

The real benefit of using Pledge polish is that if you fuck it up, you can dissolve the polish using Windex.

Japanese collectors mostly use permanent matte varnish like pic related. The objective isn’t to put a specific kind of liquid in there, it’s to get in any kind of liquid in there that will later harden to give more friction but not affect the plastic in any way. It’s just Americans can’t into anything you can’t find in a local Walmart, so they resort to methods like putting cleaning products onto their toys.

Gloss is better, hence people liking Future Shine so much.

Gloss is preferred not only because it's more durable, but because the smooth finish doesn't catch as much and causes longer lasting friction.
Matte's powdery surface will start crumbling away at the first motion.

And no, the friction caused by the matte rough surface doesn't make the joints tighter, because it's bond is not strong enough to make a difference. And gloss isn't slippery just because it's smooth, acrylic paint is rubbery and the thickness ensures there will be friction.

I recommend against useing clear nail polish anon. Nail polish is mean to be worn temporarily and frequently removed so it ages very poorly. Over time it can go yellow and become tacky to the touch. The floor shine stuff is just an acrylic sealent so while it may yellow a bit it won't go funky the way nail polish can.

Pledge is not a cleaning product, it's essentially an acrylic gloss paint that's thinned heavily. It's used as a sealant for hardwood floors, it cleans nothing.

Never got to the point of it yellowing, but what I'd see with nail polish when I used to use it is that the stuff would crumble off, making a mess, slightly reducing effectiveness and just looking tacky.

I've been using pledge future as an acrylic gloss coat for almost a decade now. Never had any issues with yellowing, idk where the stigma that it yellows comes from honestly. That said, I almost always top coat the pledge with a matte or flat lacquer or enamel coat. I only use it as a base for weathering with enamels and oils.

Here's a list of the chemicals in Pledge with Future Shine; Water, Modified Acrylic Copolymer Mixture, Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, and Tributyoxyethyl phosphate.

It's all one ingredient, diethyline glycol monoethyl ether, on a newer one it's just diethyline glycol monoethyl.

Although, according to their newest version listed on their website, it now contains oleic acid, with a rating of C2-Fair. And thanks for the calpaclab link, bookmarked.
