So,let's say that Hasbro might buy Pokemon next. How would you guys feel? We know that at the beginning Hasbro made Pokemon toys but how it would be if they own the whole thing like Power Rangers now? Hasbro Pokemon or Hasbro Digimon?

Hasbro couldn't afford Pokemon. Nintendo could probably buy out Hasbro 20 times over and still have money left.

But does anyone want to buy Hasbro? Of their popular brands only 2 of them are in-house- Transformers and ponies. Much everything else is a licensed property. A lot of Hasbro's brands, either their originals or stuff they acquired from buyouts, largely go unused.

I suppose there are the gaming properties like Monopoly but those aren't action figures nor do they translate well to video games, trust me, for all these board games made into video games, most are boring shovelware.

-Variety of creatures, monsters, humanoids, robots, cyborgs, warriors, folklore creatures, and random things like sentient shit and Elvis-impersonating monkey fursuit instead of just animals, plants, and things like garbage bags and key rings.
-Though flawed, the games at least try to mix things up instead of being the exact same game reskinned.
-Non-linear evolution lines that even encourage changing your badass monster back into a cutesy mascot so it can evolve into more powerful forms.
-Show is so much better than Pokémon’s it’s not even fair.

The issue of creature design is a more nuanced one and I wouldn't really say one is better than the other objectively. Pokemon clearly has a more focused style and has a mostly very distinct and polished designs; it's all very clean and safe, they clearly want to avoid at all cost to have any mon that just looks bad. They all look like they belong together and that goes hand-in-hand with how the series builds onto itself with each iteration.
Meanwhile Digimon is all over the place, it's not only varied but straight up inconsistent and all over the place, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because it leads to individual very interesting out-there designs and most importantly it adds to that sense of chaos and disarray that's present in so many other elements of the franchise. Digimon feel unpredictable in a way that totally sells the premise of creatures being born of random pieces of virtual data converging together. I get the feeling whatever crazy idea the artists get immediately gets greenlit which also leads to negatives like a bunch of clones and and just plain shitty designs littering the pool.

This is why I moved into collecting plush for Pokemon instead of figures. They do focus a lot on bullshit variations on certain very popular types, but they still put out way more variety than action figures ever will. There are several new choices out every month or so on Pokemon Center.

Reposting a close up with measurements from over in the Pokemon thread. I didn't even realize till I was taking these pictures that the Vaporeon isn't painted except for the tail.

It's not a terrible set for the time it was released, especially since it has so many Pokemon that otherwise didn't have merch.

They do make it clearer on the back that Mew is in there. You're meant to remove the outer packaging and hang up the figures. They're packaged in a framed display.

I never got to visit the NYC Center in person. One of my greatest regrets in life. I did order from them a few times. Got the huge Lugia with Pikachu on his back and life size Chikorita and Cyndaquil. I had ordered the huge Tyranitar and Lapras, too, but they were out of stock.

I live in NJ and I went there so many times as a kid. It legit felt like magic and they had the regular little figures on a wall....like all of them...every single one from the first two gens. Every time I went I would plan out which ones I wanted to get that time. I loved it.

Those are the figures that came in blind bags of 4 per bag. You also saw thrm knocked off to buggery in literally every asian shop at the turn of the millennium, and even today you see lots of bootleg figures in that scale if you go to the right places.
