Finally unpacked the GM Sniper Custom! An anon was asking for a comparison to the Zaku Sniper a while back, so here is a belated attempt.
>>6937602 Is there a reason that you can see, for why the elbow pegs are so shallow? Does it assist with swapping the damaged arm parts out or something? Good to hear you're otherwise enjoying him, though.
>>6937970 >I'm not sure about CD Japan. If you preorder using a credit card, then CD Japan does not require any money up-front. Any other method though (ie Paypal), and I believe you do have to pay up-front. Just FYI, CD Japan runs a small temporary test charge when you preorder with a credit card (like 100 yen or something, it appears briefly on your card activity as a pending charge but then disappears without actually charging your card), and in my experience CD Japan would always contact me to tell me that my card had denied the charge. I'd have to call up my card servicer to allow the charge, then contact CD Japan to ask them to re-run the temporary charge.
A minor pain, but it always worked and CD Japan's customer service was always very responsive. Well worth the trouble for the times I used them to secure high demand preorders (VF-25S, VF-19 Advance etc.)

And here he is with the GM Sniper II; would be nice to get an update of the Sniper II with ANIME engineering.
I love how many weapons the Sniper Custom comes with, and I love how you can actually mount all of them onto the MS at once if you want!
>>6938735 It's got all the latest ANIME bells and whistles, the most notable (in my opinion) being the compressing chest. I really love that articulation point on ANIME RDs; on the Sniper Custom it helps a ton in allowing the MS to hold his rifle naturally.

The translation can be pretty funky at parts as well, "This cannon won't shoot reps!!" ...what? Also, the most common sound effects used for the sound of a moving MS are "creak" and "squeak." A lot of squeaking MS in this translation, haha.
>>6939011 >oh fuck I'd recognize that anywhere, that's the blue destiny manga. Fuck that shit was tight. The original one I mean. Yea! Poor localization aside, I totally love the manga. Has some sweet fights with cool grunt MS. The art is lacking the fine lines and detail of many other Gundam manga (and there's huge gaps in the story), but it's got a nice sense of motion and perspective between panels that charms me.
Also, for the longest time I thought the Feddies were using GM Commands for the Hy-Gogg/Dom fight on account of the shields, but I recently realized they're actually using Cold District GMs. Makes the RD even more appealing!

That's definitely larger than I was thinking for the Zeta Plus decal, to say nothing of the GM's size. I, hmm, may be inspired to do it differently now.
Also, I know that's a Gogg, but the lack of colours and hidden parts of it and the Hygogg almost make it seem like its showing itself off (if you didn't know any better that they're different suits)

Anonymous
>>6943190 >>6943234 >>6943251 Huh, the hips on mine are tight and perfect. Never had to do any fixes there.
The knees are both ratcheted (not just one), but it is a relatively soft ratchet, not an unforgiving click. You'll definitely feel it snap to certain points if you move the knee quickly, but if you finesse it you can easily get the knee to stay at any angle you wish.
My only real disappointment with this figure is its relatively shallow ankle rockers. I thought this subline was going to be all about amazing articulation and engineering. Hell, they solved this problem back in 2006 with the HGUC Zaku Sniper, which has hinged pulldown ankles and the best ankle range I've ever seen on a Zaku. It blows my mind that they haven't simply used that design on every single Zaku kit and figure that came afterwards.

From what multiple people have reported, if you have a problem with your items (defect, damage, etc.) then you're outta luck. NY won't do anything to help. I've fortunately never had an issue with an item from them, but the one time I contacted them regarding a site issue (I didn't get some store points I was due) they didn't do a dang thing.
I've been using MyKombini now, and they've been pretty good (VF-31A disaster aside, though that affected all retailers). MyKombini has much more reasonable shipping rates than NY, and MK only requires a 50% deposit of the item price for preorders. NY requires full payment upfront including shipping (and if NY gets their shipping estimate wrong, they'll make you pay the difference before they ship).

>>6947666 For starters, perhaps this may help:
http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/51993552.html In any case, Ex-S has lots of moving parts on it, so try experimenting with finer details in the movement that really give the impression of something happening. There are also just so many weapons you can have pointed in different directions at once.
If you want to take it further, there are Bandai's series of effect parts which can surely liven up a display, especially a space-based one, provided you have the stands (yeah, spending more money, I know).
That said, I find the thought of the Ex-S weaving and shooting between rocks to be quite appealing. Other ideas that come to mind are having one side look dormant, while the other is flared up with weapons pointed, unhinged, panels slid apart, etc. Taking it from an asymmetric aesthetic to something with action, just think of it as ALICE suddenly reacting to an ambush from the side (helps if you have something to attack it) , which would be made all the more convincing in a field of floating rocks. Or another example of just using the Ex-S is to have its back-pack and other parts detached like improvised cover.

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Shokugan-Splatoon-Weapons-Collection/dp/B074WZF9FK This is the full set, but if you look around you can buy 1 at a time. But like I mentioned, they're blind-boxes, so you may not get what you want unless you buy a full set. There is also another set of weapons available and yet another that is going to be released from what I've heard.

Nuu's review of the Zaku II Kai is up!
http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/52025771.html It looks kind of ridiculously awesome. My sole gripe from looking at Nuu's pics is that it appears the monoeye isn't poseable, instead you change the position with a swappable piece. I think that's due to the more pointed, oblong shape of the Kai's head though (as opposed to the standard Zaku's head which is essentially circular along the eye slit), so I can understand why Bandai went that route.

The older Gouf Custom RD has a bunch of accessories and a "hard-point system" that lets you mount his accessories in various places on his body. Unfortunately because of this, I've heard the figure tends to be "fiddly," or falls apart easily. I never owned it, but others seemed to say it was a bit disappointing.
The A.N.I.M.E. Gouf on the other hand is a figure version of the original Gouf from Mobile Suit Gundam, hence the more cartoonish look. The figure itself is fantastic, and comes with great accessories.
Here's a photo-review for both current Gouf RDs.
A.N.I.M.E. Gouf -
http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/51984745.html Gouf Custom -
Most of us here think that the A.N.I.M.E. sub-line will eventually cover 08th MS team. So if you don't mind waiting, you can probably get your favorites from that series in the future.
If you really want some RD's now, the A.N.I.M.E. figures are fantastic, so you can't really go wrong there. For the Feddie suits, I recommend any version of the RX-78 Gundam. The original colors are classic, but the Full Armor version comes with even more accessories if you like the alternate color scheme and want some extra bang for your buck (as mentioned by

For a more generic grunt, you can also pick up the standard GM. Zeon suits are a bit easier since there's more of them. Can't really go wrong with any Zaku. Dom is fantastic, and I already covered Gouf.

In terms of the shipping fee alone though, shipping everything together was the most cost efficient method by far. HLJ's EMS gets really cost effective the more stuff you're shipping. >>6953347 They also didn't line it too well and a lot of spots have the outer parts lined but not the actual spot. It's what happens when the marker is too big and can't fit deep in the slot/hope/panel, unless they did it on purpose to make it more subtle, but using gray would probably solve that. Still, black behind the verniers is good and I was thinking of doing black there and gray for other details.

>>6954640 Heh, so I remembered I had some Gundam Markers from years ago stored away somewhere. Busted'em out, did all the black that I wanted to do.

Although I did try to panel-line some really small details on the inside of the knee area, and those came out a bit sloppy. I'm wondering if I can use some alcohol or something to get it out of there, since they're recessed in I can't fit an eraser in those details.

As for the thigh-thrusters, I could think of two options: they could either put the thruster on a sliding piece that would allow it to slide up and forward to make clearance room for the knee, or they could have the thruster collapse as the knee pushes on it via a spring. Whatever they end up doing, I at least hope they address that issue, as the MSiA could barely bend its knees.

If they are milking the Zaku mould straight that many times, we better get Thomas Klutz Gelgoog as well as the Gray Gelgoog with both high mob and cannon backpacks.
It looks like MSV ain't going soon as they are targeting oldies.
GM Cannon is unlikely to get African and Nth American colours though as it didn't sell well, but how about GM in MSV colours with the different skirt armor?
They still have that brown desert Gouf, but Zaku will always be the most iconic. Gouf Prototype and M'Quave and also the other Zabi Zakus would be great too.

>>6961162 Also had to check out the Zaku II Kai. Regarding the paint on the nose; I wouldn't have known it was painted if anon hadn't pointed it out in Nuu's review. But, the paint does NOT match the rest of the head, it's very clearly a darker shade of green compared to the rest of the head.
It almost feels intentional, because the rounded area that forms the bottom half of the bridge of the nose seems to match the plastic above it, whereas the squared off part of the snout itself stands out as darker.
I'm happy with how it looks, but wanted to be upfront for folks who wanted info on that.
Anonymous
>>6961175 The difference in nose color particularly stands out in this shot, though it isn't quite this apparent in-person.
Interestingly, they give you an entire spare head for the stahlhelm (and it's packaged with one of the mono-eye position parts, nice space economy there).
I thought maybe this was due to the stahlhelm requiring some unique sculpting in order to fit on the head. But, after pulling off both heads and comparing them side by side, they're exactly the same! So, not quite sure why Bandai bothered with the extra head, but hey, I won't look a gift head in the mouth.

My primary gripe about NXEDGEs are the plastic they're constructed with. It has that kinda gritty-yet-soft feel to it that you see in gashapon-type toys like Gundam Converge figures. Not necessarily a bad thing, and it's not like it's fragile plastic or anything (quite sturdy in fact), but it just doesn't feel like the stuff you'd see in a higher quality line.
