Hoarding has to affect your life in a negative way. True, being gross does affect your life too, but that's simple hygiene issues, not hoarding. Buying too much shit, beyond your means, is another type of mental illness, but not hoarding if it's not overwhelming your living space. Hoarding is a pretty specific condition.
