That's literally what it is.
When a company like TRU or some other retail store wants to order stock, they usually go to a bank or some other money lending place, ask for a loan, receive their money, and then need to pay that loan back with interest.
This is how almost every single business runs.
It's how 4H used to make their toys.
It's why Kickstarter exists now, because they need their interest free loans for their risky propositions because a bank wouldn't give them a loan.
Most real companies use Kickstarter to START their companies and become a real business, because they proved themselves to banks that their business is able to make money, like Boss Fight Studios, who is able to produce toys year round, expanding their line ups, all without begging for money from their fanbase.
