Thanks for being the one mature person in this topic. All these fags always forget that companies aren't just one single bogeyman, and are made up of many different people, some with less power than others. set designers might've gladly released a Makuta set, but higher ups obviously didn't let them. Not the designers' faults.So, they payed homage to the line in whatever way they could, which in this case, was a sticker.

It might work with all the heroes, unlike Star Wars, their head already are cartoony, so cartoonifying them into the monstrosities SW CCBS heads were is luckily out of the question (unless Lego decides they still want to make the faces in a different style, that was used in SW).
But I am really surprised they actually acquired the license, seems like they are finally embracing the videogame audience, which I gladly welcome. Although I there is the option of them f-ing it up.
I really hope they would do CCBS D.Va's mech, shit would be kino.

I hate how much LEGO jacked the prices with SW constraction. I'm worried that, license or not, possible future constraction lines will have similar prices. Even the G2 bonkles were overpriced come to think of it.
Toys are shoddy cashgrabs, comics and vidya are more concerned with having the right politics, cartoons are ugly and lack sensation. Honestly I think we're at a point where we should make our own entertainment. Write our own stories, design our own toys, make our own comics and vidya. I wish I could start a DIY movement and cause an economic/cultural stirup.

Ahhhhh. I never realized the big robot is there on the mask. Never really looked, either.

It's funny, when you drop out of something (like me of Bionicle in '06) it seems that whatever the thing is, it suddenly seems to get a lot more busy when looked with outsider eyes. 07-09 years seem super hectic to me - both in releases and in the story.

Update. He's now standing on his own and he's getting tall. 5 cracked joints thus far, but in all honesty I can't be arsed. Sure, I could get replacements, but there's a good chance those are cracked too. That's the risk you take with this shit. Besides, the legs are sturdy enough to hold his weight.

Yeah, that's the problem. The idea behind capitalism is that companies and individuals have to compete. If a company isn't offering you what you want then you can take your money elsewhere. For example toy companies have (had) to come up with cool themes and features to win customers over, which worked to our favor. Cool stuff was made.
But then you have Google, Disney and EA going around, buying the competition and creating fucking monopolies.

Without a doubt, but there a couple thoughts to consider. First, money is useless on it's own. You need food and fuel. Resources. Money buys resources. The people who own and distribute resources have the real power.
Second, money relies on not being too scarce. Let's say you're the only person on earth with a kanoka dollar. You can claim it's valuable and nobody will care. But if others have kanoka dollars too, then more people will claim they're valuable and will be willing to trade for them. A currency's strength relies on how many folks use it. If the 1% bleeds folks too dry then people will start trading for other stuff instead.

Netflix had a new episode for The Toys That Made Us about Lego. It had Bionicle in it but showed mostly G2. They were talking about how Bionicle saved solely Lego in the early 2000s, telling us how it sold incredibly well while showing us G2 stuff.

Citation, please? The story existed almost exclusively on the most superficial level. The constant dropping of plot threads is indicative to me that the Vahi showing up constantly in rocks and clouds and shit just means they were alluding to G2's mask of time eventually becoming a focal point of the story at the very end. Like a parallel to G1 besides Toa, masks, and a guy called Makuta would be G2's GSR reveal or something.

Round pieces, It is preferable the moc is bigger than average so they don't look so much out of place. Nuva shoulder pieces can make good tits but if you don't know exactly how to do it well prepare to get laughed due to their well deserved stigma. Star Wars shoulderpads too.

Aside from fucking up the footage they used, I was pleasantly surprised by how Bionicle was presented. Yes, they talked about how System purists consider it a sacrilege, but on the whole it was shown in a positive way, and they even brought up Christian Faber and his inspiration for the giant robot.

I bought all six on ebay, and Maku happened to be mint in bag. Still opened it though, MIB collectors are the worst, but of course I did keep all the stuff it came with (don't think I threw away the bag either actually). Also bought a second Jaller to make a Takua, plan on making a Hahli, Makuta, and a Kapura someday. Maybe even Ahkmou.

I talked with someone who worked on the G2 and he told me that this is what the 2017 wave would have been like. This concept was made around 2012-2013. They planned all the three years but when the sales were poor in 2015 they changed the storyline and finished it in 2016. The 2017 wave would have been set in the shadow realm and Okoto,it would have been an all out war.

We have to thank based David Robertson for that, finally his findings about Bonkle reach a wider audience. It was kinda misleading to credit the story solely to Faber, but they didn't have the time to elaborate on it further, so it's understandable. I think Bionicle has enough material for its own documentary, especially since there were so many things going on behind the scenes. The Maori incident, the shift in direction in October 2001 (as alleged by the people who worked on the Legend of Mata Nui game), Greg's outreach to the fans, Lego's multimedia experiment, and I'd love to hear more about Bob Thompson and other creators too. Shame the franchise isn't big and relevant enough to warrant making it.

Oh, and it was nice that the Toa Mata Band got a shoutout in the doc too.

In this dream, the new sets looked a lot like some of the scrapped G2 concept art, and there was a proper TV show advertised along with them. I was pretty sure it was all fake, but then Lego announced it and confirmed their legitimacy. There was also an adventure-esque theme in the catalog that repurposed these new mask designs as temple decorations. I fucking hate it when you start to doubt a dream, so it throws out excuses and justifications to keep you believing. Anyway, in this fantasy catalog I also saw they were rebooting both Hero Factory and Robo Riders (where vehicles became Slizer-like robots, like knockoff Transformers) ALONGSIDE Bionicle as well. Then the whole thing fell apart because I knew then it was too good to be true...

... although, in hindsight, he fact that Tom Holland pulled up in a black van and delivered the catalog to my door probably should have tipped me off from the beginning.

Sad thing is I'm pretty sure they could make bank if they just released the OG sets. Or even better, release new waves of bionicles with the same aesthetics of the first 2/3 generations of Toa/Matoran/whatever but have them be completely new characters/designs. Possibly even new elements too.

They could make bank in a variety of ways. They could feasibly launch another full-on marketing campaign with well designed sets and a high profile video game or a solid action show or a theatrical movie to back them up. So I still have all the 2015 toa including pieces, boxes, and manuals. They're kinda just taking up space in my room and i realised I like the look of the toa Mata better but never owned any. How much should the whole toa 2015 sets go for, joints are still in good condition.

DESU while I kind of hate TTV, I do like some of their ideas for their G3 project. Plus, it's created a lot of great art. In fact, I kind of wish Bionicle had gotten a show like this. It certainly would've beaten Avatar to the punch, and given time it could've become really compelling.

Not to say the TTV ideas or art style are exactly what I'd go for, but it's a lot better than the Journey to One shit.

Might one day try to write a G3 reboot myself or something - actually make what I'd like to see. Wish I had the artistic talent to realize it.

None of them look too bad, though Tahu's the worst offender with the "tribal" patterns. His whole chest area is absurdly noisy. Lewa's mask is also annoying.

I really like Gali's design, but I like a good chunk of Gali fan designs. Kopaka's is good too - fairly streamlined and the side cape is a nice touch. I hate the BigOnua meme but I guess that's just what he'll always be now.

On the mouths, eh, they need them to be expressive, and the whole idea with this is to make 1) a show and 2) minifigure sets.

While I don't have a problem with Fem!Lewa (though if I were changing genders, I'd probably do Pohatu just to fuck with shippers), they should've gone with a better design. On the one hand, it makes sense to add a female cast, though expanding the team to seven (canonizing Voriki or just a new female Toa of Light, Lightning, or Iron) or just making a new team would've been better.

I'm just glad they didn't go full SJW...yet.

There's nothing wrong with being more inclusive either, but instead of making something new, they took a group of characters that already exist and changed one of them to fit their arbitrary quota.

I'd try to make her look more mechanical and robotic, with the lightup eyes and covered up facial features (because it's a mask), and leave expressions to be handled by the eyes and possibly cheeks instead of a mouth. But that would constitute an entire redo really, so do whatever you feel like.

I'm definitely keeping the muscles - mainly because I just really like more "skin" on this design - but the idea for the face is really interesting. I was thinking about possibly making the mouth a vent like Gali or Nokama in the movies.

And there definitely will be light-up bits. Don't worry about that.

your proportions are good outside of the hands and I think the feet grabbing the vine is real cool as well. As people have said, doing more robotic greebling and integrating the expressions more into mask contours like they did in the movies would probably help the depiction of the character. Also if you look into shading it would help your forms which already look pretty good
