Any tips on fixing this fucker? It seems like either the piece with the ball isn’t long enough or the socket itself is misshapen. Do I just need to put it under a hairdryer for 10 minutes and hope for the best?

Boiling may cause discoloration and gets water in every nook & cranny. I'd recommend using a hair dryer on the low heat setting. Get the two pieces warm & soft, then pop the ball back into the socket. Easy fix.

Yeah, cuz water is such a strong molecular acid, it will eat away the plastic if you let it sit for a while without drying it.

OP, simple fix.
Take a piece of thin tape (masking will do fine). Cut two rectangles, small enough to fit over the ball. Make a cross shape, stick it on the ball, and pop it in place.
It will add a layer of friction that will keep it in place.
It works a treat.

If the joint is loose, I often use pvc pipe threading tape for situations like that. It doesn't seem to leave any residue or damage, is thin and can conform to shapes and it's cheap. Usually 1-2 bucks at home depot for a roll or two of it. I use them for loose balljoints in heads often.

Water can seep into the interior of a toy and get trapped in there. This causes mold & mildew to form inside the toy. Even if the toy looks dry on the outside, water can still be on the inside. The higher humidity in the house/area the washed toy is in, the higher chances of mildew forming. Nobody is saying that water is an acid but you. You're not acting smart when you jump to conclusions like that. You're acting like a moron.

Mildew in toys is a common hazard that is always brought up whenever we have threads on how to clean toys. If you have to wash a figure, it has to dry in a well ventilated, low humidity area or you're sure to get mold. I don't see why you're sperging out on such a common piece of advice. Shit. I've cleaned vintage Popy die-cast in soapy water, rinsed it, dried it run air over it and in it, even set it in a container of desiccant to help dry it out.
But there are people who start immediately crying RUST! and MOLD! the second you even mention using water.

Him posting a toy made to be played in water is complete nuttier, because that's extended play vs some guy just boiling water to soften plastic. Even if you submerge the toy it's not going to do anything in the long run, unless it never ever drains.
