New to figures. How hard is it to find metal gear solid figures?

more interested in mgs1/2 snake but open to all versions.

which are the best figure brands/ranges to watch out for?

I'm seeing some revoltech ones on eBay used. peace Walker snake. how were they? how can you tell if they are real or fake?

Figma MGS2 Snake is getting re-released soon. Pre-orders are closed on amiami but keep checking and they might re-open if someone cancels. Or just wait until release day and you could be able to get an order in. The first wave had some serious QC issues so remain sceptic if you go for this and you might not be too disappointed.

The hard pill to swallow is this: There are no good MGS figures that are worth the prices you'll have to pay. It's nothing but trade-offs and mediocre figures, or downright bad ones.

The closest you'll get to something good is the figma Snake. Avoid the revos, they are shit. PAKs have the biggest roster of significant characters, but that is a can of worms best left unopened.

Don't buy on ebay or third party Amazon sellers if you want to avoid bootlegs.

The picture you put in the OP ironically looks like it might just a traced picture of the Play Arts Kai Solid Snake figure, but that thing is upwards of $300 and not worth that money at all. The nendoroid is good if you're into chibi shit, it's getting a rerelease due out this fall

You are either uninformed or a liar. I have been buying Revoltechs for solid decade now. The joints age beautifully (I still have my first few Revos and the joints feel just as solid and clicky as the day I bought them). And the problem with them getting sticky was not a plasticizer leaking problem, it was a problem with the glossy paint they were using. It was a big problem in the past but they seem to have resolved it a few years back, as I haven't been hearing any tales of sticky Revos since and none of my newer ones have gotten the problem (in similar timespans to my old ones getting it of course). Not to mention, this is pretty much a non-issue with the MGS Revos anyway because they're not painted with glossy paint.

OP, he is sorta right about the posing thing, Revos can look kinda awkward if you only want them to stand in a plain position on your shelf. But if you're into action poses of any sort, they are the absolute best you can get. Like, Revoltechs are the only way you are going to get this >>6983560 pose. Get some Revos, have some fun. I have owned PAK, Figma, and Revo MGS figures and the Revos are by far my favorites.

Honestly I can say that Playarts arent woth the cost. Original retail on Snake and Ninja was okay but the after market prices do not represent the quality of the product. Mine just kept falling over. 6" figures arent terrible for mgs 2. The figma snake is nice, if a bit toony. Mini revols are probably te best if your into 3 3/4 scale figs

Yeah, sure, it's a solid figure. It's actually my favorite of the mainline Revos. The joint setup seems easier to manipulate than Venom Snake, and less fiddly than Raiden. It's the simplest for me to just pick up and mess with on a whim.

Plus if you own Kinnikuman you can do a shirtless swap.

Yes, Revos only have MGS1, PW, and 5. Well, and Metal Gear Rising. The MGS1 ones are about 4" tall because they're a part of the Mini line. The PW and 5 ones are around 6" tall. OH, except the Venom Snake you're posting, which is the Mini version. This is probably a bit confusing, but they made Venom Snake in both standard 6" and Mini versions, and they're quite different, so make sure you do your research before buying.

Like $85 or so.

I like it a lot personally, the face on mine was alright and the arm articulation is good for two handed rifle poses.

Also, if you got the revo mini Snake, you can give the figma his USP, scales and fits in the hands perfectly.

I don't believe you, considering I own revo mini grey fox and figma snake. Articulation is worse, accessory count is lower than the figma, the qc is worse, and price is well, at this point aren't the me a minis like 100 a pop?

Articulation is similar enough but the revo snake looks awkward in a lot of poses and has bizarre proportions that are lessened moving from snake.

The worst figma snake has is a floppy lower waist joint and slightly off paint on the head sometimes. Revo has similar problems really you're just getting an awkward frumpy sculpt and smaller size.

If you prefer 6 inch and don't care about which Snake it is, this Venom Snake is the best bet.

Be aware the brand name is Vulcanlog but it's a revoltech as well. He comes with lots of options, has the best sculpt, and has better engineering for easier posing. The only down side is the legs can't completely close together. The best you can do is the legs pointing straight down. If some anon says you can cut the straps to get the legs closed, he is an idiot.

Yeah they fixed the problem long long time ago. Probably some communication issues with their factory because it was pretty random when it happened. The problem went away during 2010.

The big problem with anons here with any toy lines, they remember all of the initial problems of a new toy line and regurgitate it over and over as if the long lasting toy line somehow managed to stay in business without fixing their figures. And the anons typing these thing don't even buy the later products. Mafex gets QC questions all the time, and only like the first 15% of their current lineup had the major problems.

Not him but since I have them, PW is about the same size as SH Figuarts. Venom Snake, technically a Vulcanlog, is a bit bigger. Next to each other because of how bulky Venom Snake is, they do look out of scale. Individually next to a Figuarts each Snake looks like they are in scale. Venom Snake just being a larger man.

Revol Minis are way smaller, they're 4 inch.

The Peacewalker to the left of him is also a Revo.

The Revolmini figures cover MGS1 Snake/Gray Fox. MGSV Venom Snake in 2 colour variations and a Soviet Soldier.

play arts kai being the taller) and revolmini ( >>6983568 >>6983564). if you want articulation go for the revo, sculpt go for the PAK, low price mcfarlane.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Revolmini, it's a lot of fun. Doesn't scale with anything but it's still pretty cool on it's own. The PAK doesn't look as bad as everyone said it did either but that didn't stop it from being a topheavy mess with horrible articulation

It fits fine with Joes and Marvel Universe, there are tons of militar characters and vehicles compatible.

I like the Yamato doll a lot, it’s an old figure but it has some classic appeal that matches the game somewhat, like the McFarlane but better. The Revolmini is the best overall though.

Man, the cut of his clothing just feels wrong, and I hate the facesculpt. But to each his own I guess. The Revo Mini is my choice for best.

The Nendoroid also looks great, though the stylization isn't for everyone and it's more of a "looks nice on a shelf" than a super playable toy.

The timing was all wrong, when the Revos started up MGS4 hype was long gone. And to be frank, although I like some of the designs from that game (FROGS stand out in particular), as a whole MGS4's designs aren't the most attractive or memorable. As a design, Old Snake just isn't as consumer friendly as Venom.

Four was okay.
I don't really get why the fanbase is so down on it.
The gameplay was solid enough despite a few issues.
It is a shame that fucking five was the only mainline game to get proper modern figures since everything about it was absolutely horrible.

Granted, I haven't played it in a while, but my memories of it are gritty and sandy and kind of depressing. Lots of creeping through samey bombed out desert buildings. I may go back and replay it because it is, in my memories at least, the least memorable mainline MGS game. I have much clearer and more distinct memories of the others, even 5.

I understand that a lot of people love them, and I really dig that they're referencing the MGS1 bosses, but honestly, visually I really only like Decoy Octo and Screaming Mantis. Raven and Wolf really didn't do much for me. And I don't think Decoy would be that fun as a toy to be honest, those tentacles would either be a jointed cut up clusterfuck or clumsy bendy arms.

As far is the LiM toys Aheb/Ismael set goes. He is a pretty standard 1/6th scale figure. Only major issues I had was there where some loose threads on the jacket I had to trip and the eye patch for the venom head popped out of its socket and then cracked when I tryed to put it back in, little super glue fixed that though.

I also have pretty much all the mgs1 & 2 mcfarlane figures, the revo mini snake & gray fox,revoltech venom snake & soviet trooper, figma mgs2 snake, yamato mgs1 snake (though he is still MIB) and there are some more I am forgetting so I can dig them out later for pics or info.
The face/head sculpt for both included in this set if pretty good maybe not 100% correct but that maybe a licensing dodging tactic or just Chinese workmanship who knows. he has a brown shirt under the jacket that adds some material limiting his shoulder and elbow range somewhat.

He does come i with a lot of accessories. There is a normal version of this guy that just comes with the Big Boss head and less gear but I say if you can find this guy then get the deluxe one. I had planned on making up another body for the venom head until I saw >>6994367 so I am gonna order that set soon for him. He is not a super dynamic figure and the biker jacket is not a iconic look for me but the face sculpts and accessories as well as having ass hole run away big boss is neat.

If you really like Biker boss then I would say yes cuz there is pretty much no other options, and with that new upgrade venom body set the delux ver is worth it though shitty you have to get both.

This was my vary first and so far only processed order from them but yes no issues. It took about a week from shipping confirmation to me getting it. I placed this guy and WJL toys didsguiser on preorder which both required a down payment of about 20%. I think you can also do a pay in full preorder for a discount.

Not really I already collect 3d party transformers stuff so its not my first delve into IP infringement. The likelihood of konami making a figure of this scale/type and quality was really low and there treatment and firing of Kojima makes me care even less about giving them more money for metal gear products. Trying not to spoil anything but the truth of venom/big boss lends an funny irony to an unofficial figure to me.

Yes, the ratchet inside the elbow joint is tight to the point that it's stronger than the plastic surrounding it, meaning the joint can break inside the seamless elbow and become permanently floppy. Almost everyone who ordered from Sideshow in the US had their figures broken straight out of the box. My Raiden is from the Japanese batch and may be one of the few left in existence with two working elbow joints. A user on Sideshow Freaks posted a tutorial on how to fix the arms if they break, but the procedure is not for the faint-hearted.

Depends how much you like/dislike the style and scale.
Plenty view him as a really great toy but you could probably get one of the larger Revo snakes for less.

I loved the entire Revolmini line, found them great for interacting with larger objects and fitting in little gaps in collections with their antics.

They pop up every so often. If you value a more....uhhhh I guess "normal" looking body sculpt that will look good in neutral poses, get the SHF. If you want absurd poseability and dont mind the sometimes segmented look Revos can have, go with the Revo. I usually have more fun with my Revo since it has a wider range of motion.

They based the Hot Toys on the redone character models for the 3DS version of MGS, which I always felt was a huge mistake. The new models feel wrong to me, almost like they're different people, and they DO look older.

Just got the LIM toys D-pack, things pretty goddamn awesome. I've always wanted a 1/6 camo Snek, and this guy definitely doesn't disapoint.

The cloth glove is some bullshit though, I don't know how the hell you're supposed to fit that thing on over a rubbery weapon posed hand, so I just have the gun hand from the biker snek on right now.

Still though, hugely recommend it for any MGS fans, if you can somehow get that glove on >_>

The MGS4 Snake is a Medicom UDF figure, kinda rare now. And the NVG one, like the other anon said, is the MGSV GZ Snake. Basically the same exact thing as the Peacewalker One but different head and accessories.

Not sure how easy they are to get, but they are all complete as and not worth it. Revolution ones seem like they're better than others, but they are stylized and most are just Venom Snake. I wouldn't even mind if some company put out a well articulated low-poly mgs1 Solid Snake at this point.

If I have problems getting a gun into a figure's hand I start by put the front of the handle into the palm making the hand and gun perpendicular. Then swing the gun pushing the front of the handle towards the finger but I angle it so that i can slip the back of the handle past the thumb. Hope this made any sense.
