>>6990907I understand, those would be nice; but considering the tradeoffs in the design of the original toy, I’m amazed how much we got in exchange. Each over-sized gorilla arm housed a weapon (one of which was a spring-loaded, unfolding gun), and his arms were designed so that a lever on the back could transmit rotational action to the elbows (through the shoulders, in any orientation of the shoulder, mind you), with selective “on/off” switches on the upper arms to enable pivoting of just one or both elbows. This allowed the use of his swinging weapons (two swords and/or a motherfucking MACE), or beating of the chest, gorilla-style.
I kinda like the fact that we got all that in the original version, with the later option for 3rd party figures with a focus on posability now. The original toy was something ahead of its time, and with the costs of plastics and manufacturing these days (as well as a general lack of interest by most modern kids), I doubt we’ll get something with as many well-designed gimmicks packed into one figure again.
