What happened to Lego Technic?
I went to the Lego site to shop for a gift, and the only sets I could find are either the fuckhuge sets for richfags or these awful "all special pieces" sets with little to none trademark Technic pieces.
Where are the classic sets? Where are the pneumatic pistons, the UV-reactive tubes, the skeletonized machines?

maybe it is subjective but two mocers were able to repulse and destroy local community of 25 fans or so. There is a lot more, too many aspects I can talk about... My argument was not that the lore was the best thing there is. Just that the lore is far more important thing than mocs. It sounds like an impossible paradox but it's true if you think more about it. Lore produced the mocs because otherwise where are ccbs moc for chima, sw and shit? If you read about plasma toa, great beings but there were no sets of them you had to have some inspiration in first place. I'm not saying is totally genius but at least think about how smart it was to give the masks powers and lore. Hell even name them. They avoid these things in G2 and look what happend. It was maybe cliché af but incredibly detailed. So if anyone dares to say that bionicle community is only about mocs these days I would hate that person from afar.

Just hopping into the conversation. I think I get what you mean. There's almost this disconnect between the regulars of the moccing community and the more casual members that may do the occasional moc but are moreso just invested in the toyline for the story/sets.

Btw guys, I went ahead and added the gearboxes to my mask makers. Their arms sit a half unit farther back now but the extra bulk, plus the fact that the torso is sucked in one unit closer to the neck than the official Ekimu build, I don't mind it at all.

Gave Makuta his hammer and both the short eyestalks because I borrowed from their Jto looks. Hammer surprisingly works quite well, feels like it'd be the one used in an official set if we ever got one.

I wouldn't say MOCing destroyed the community, but high-tier, egotism among some of the """expert"""" MOCists really made things bad.

Generally, MOCing was good. It allowed people to do something creative and actively take part in the story, and really capitalizes on the best aspects of Lego and storytelling. Hell, it's better than most OC-heavy franchises because fans could actually make tangible versions of their OCs.

However, among more "elite" and competitive circles, there emerges a really cruel, egotistical mentality that makes people think they're better than everyone else. That can get annoying, and destroys communities.

Nah. Immediately went back to the PoF shoulder brackets with the faux gearboxes. The extra half unit wasn't too bad but the major issue is looking at them from a downward angle ends up higlighting the huge vacancy between the chest shells and the gearbox. The PoF shoulders fill out the entire top portion of the back and leave the bottom empty, but the gearbox leaves the top section empty and it just wasn't doing it for me. PoF had the best Protector torso out of the bunch imo and these guys are just for display, so I'm just going to keep them looking sleek instead of compromising their looks for a function I'll never use.

Perhaps you could use a SW upper back shell if you have one, but then you'd have to moc a custom skeleton. Personally I don't care about the gimmick and removed it in favour of a the build that brings the shoulders forward and up.

Yeah, the silver codpiece kinda throws everything off, but unfortunately I don't have a metru blue one and a black one doesn't look better. The whole waist area is something I'd like to improve.I like how it narrows but I think it might get a bit too slim and the narrowest point, being only the width of the hand piece.

As for the feet, I like them small, one of my biggest complaints of official sets is always how freakishly large they are. I know it's so they'll balance when kids play with them but I just prefer them to be proportionate.

After 2004, I think, or maybe 2004. Initially they planned a second movie for 2004 that would have concluded the story. I like the idea of Makuta being a good guy and having some character besides being the bad guy.
I think at some point they planned to end the story with a third movie in 2005 that would have been the sequel to Mask of Light, but they scraped it in favor of continuing the theme.

I still think scrapping the Makuta as a tragic villain plot was a big missed opportunity. G2 attempted that in the graphic novel but Journey to One just turned him into a cartoon villain.

It was more of a gradual process, but if I had to pinpoint one moment, it was when Lego told the writers to make up the 2005 story from scratch and shoehorn it into their planned timeline. The comics, books and online vids meandered all over the place with very little focus, and things were starting to get needlessly edgy. But the story was always evolving and changing behind the scenes, so it's hard to say how fucked it was.
Other candidates:
The similarly shoehorned-in Kal arc with the plot hole-filled mess that was the Nuva cube and Nuva symbols.
The movies, plot hole-filled messes themselves that had too much influence on the story and how it was told.
The serials beginning from 2008.
The whole Bara/Spherus Magna thing.

But yeah, it was technically screwed from the start. Just look at how inconsistent all the 2001 material was because they couldn't figure out what kind of story they wanted to tell, other than that they were building up to a giant robot reveal. Makuta went through like four or five different iterations before Greg settled on his Teridax persona.

Just thought of a proper ending. Essentially the MoUP is destroyed and Makuta reverts back to normal. Somehow Umarak is made by Makuta and sent back in time right before he is defeated. The island begins to decay and the Toa realize they must go back in time as well to stop Umarak. They are "heroes through time" and it's always been their destiny to save the island and return back to the beginning to repeat the process. They accept their fate happily because in starting all over they know Okoto will be safe. So they say their goodbyes and used the Vahi to head back to the start of 2015, their memories gone and their destiny fulfilled. The Creatures stay to watch over the island. This would also explain the remembering the Maze of Control. Brainstorming so I'm hacking it up but overall I feel like this would be a sound conclusion.

Pretty much. Masters and Protectors were a great start, the Skulls were fun villain sets, then Uniters and Creatures really got that CCBS/Technic fusion down beautifully. The Beasts were the only wave I feel were lackluster, though I feel they were a rushed job thanks to Lego pulling the plug so I don't fault them for at least being creative.

You aren't wrong there. There was definitely a lack of creativity in those designs, but I will at least stand by the Skulls as being a lot of fun overall. The undead is always a fun trope to play with, though I do wish they had gone with the concepts for a little more creativity.

Speaking as a Moccer, if you stuck around during HF and maybe got a few Chima sets, the Skullfuckers were underwhelming as fug. Warrior in particular is pretty worthless. Slicer had a single useful recolor and Basher was cool for the function and nothing else.
Scorpio was good for parts to price.
Grinder is the only one that looked complete and even then he's tiny for a titan.

So I'm wrapping up building a forge for my mask makers and I wanted to know what sounds more appealing to you guys. This has been in my head for a while. It's weird that Lego has never really settled for a regular go-to color for Electricity/Lightning. It was purple for Slizers, then it became blue (Bionicle, HF, Ninjago), and sometimes it was yellow (Mixels).
So my question is: did anyone have their own idea of Lightning/Electricity Toa before the canon version was revealed? And did you stick with it despite contradicting G1 canon?
As for me, years before Nikila I built a yellow Toa OC and settled on him being a Toa of Electricity. To this day yellow feels natural for Lightning to me. Blue is better suited for Water and Ice, so I can't see it as a color for a hot element. I have to say pic related looks really cool though, so maybe blue could stay for accents.

I can justify dark blue with lightning since you can't really see them unless it's dark out. Bit farfetched but hey, what can you do. But I do not try to justify color choices since orange has been assigned to FOUR different elements across both gens in set form, so just go with what fits in your mind.

Oh, I'll definitely go with what's on my mind. I just was curious to see how others felt about this. All Toa of Lightning MOCs I see just quietly agree with Greg's color choices so I kind of assumed everyone was fine with them.
I don't think the orange situation is that bad. Fire had it as a secondary color, and it was canonized as a Stone color only to cover up the fuckup with Pohatu. So only Plasma has it has a dominant color really. I'm not sure which the fourth element is supposed to be, unless you mean G2 Pohatu's dark orange.

I worked with modelling clay, pretty smooth, not very grainy. I'm an amateur, my teacher just ordered some for me, so I can't remember what it was called exactly. I make a "face" of a block of styrofoam measured after my own face. I then rolled out a plate of clay more than big enough to cover it. Then I used dentist's tools to cut the shape and the different holes with the actual mask as reference.

That was basically the process.

They were designed just after stars and their only benefit is maybe the correction if cooling that made the plastic into thin ice, they're not using the various changes from hf's second wave that prevented all known issues (some anons still report ccbs breaking, but I've yet to experience any with my builds). But it does have some drawbacks. The first and biggest offense is the finish. My Matte MoT is vibrant and shines, albeit with minor print lines, but this guy here is actually duller. The camera isn't showing it off weird, this thing just doesn't shine at all on a lot of it's surfaces. Not to mention, and I was worried about this, they grinded the gold off in a lot of spots so little bits of silver can be seen when held in the light. The upside though is that it is actually smoothed out nicely, all the points and edges have been rounded off and the print lines are much less visible.

The interior is just too small, although this is an issue with the 3D model, not the material used. The MoT actually has more room in it's interior which is ironcic because polished pieces grind away the excess to smooth it out. So regardless of what material I got this in it'd be cramped. Is it perfect? No. But I'm not displeased with what I have. I have a little gold MoUP, and while it could be a tiny bit cleaner it's not that much of an issue. I will probably try to contact Shapeways to see about getting a replacement for cheap if the dullness was a factory error however. If not, fuck it.

I never understood why so many considered this set kino while shitting on Scorpio. To me Scorpio showed off the flexibility of the CCBS bones while Witch Doctor shows its compatibility problems with technic. The fact that his hips are asymmetrical and has bits sticking out makes him feel unfinished and cobbled together. The only good things I can say are he comes with really good parts and the articulation interesting.

I put Firelord together for the first time earlier. He isn't much taller than your average inikabuild. He looks a lot less intimidating than I expected and his limb design really hinders his posability. CCBS titans suck.

My one worry about merging with /lg/ is the possibilty of shitflinging between bonkle autists and general lego autists ruining any occasional Bionicle discussion. I remember seeing quite a bit of that on other sites.
That said, it really can't hurt to just try for a while and see if it goes well. We can always go back to making threads if it turns out the separation was a good idea after all.

Technically Cyberhand has been done with his titan Moup for about a year now. He said there was a minor tweak to do but I've failed to see what he could possibly do. It's pretty much perfect. My guess is maybe round off a few corners but he even said himself that that model is basically the end product. I wanted the smaller scale to have the same model however. Now that shit is upsetting. I did some digging and he's no longer off the internet. He's been making 3D prints of pieces to assemble Doc Ock's tentacles from Spiderman 2. However this is on some random collector forum and it's apparent that he's ghosting the Bionicle community entirely and isn't coming back. The traffic here has fallen off so bad this thread is almost a month old. Nobody had been posting here for days on end at a time till I mentioned the merge. Now suddenly anons give a shit enough about the general to post. And tbqh this general is about 80% memes and shitposting at this rate so I don't see any negatives about merging. If we're actually talking about the toys and not spamming "bionicle saved Lego" people won't give a shit. I say merge. I'm sick of posting here and essentially talking to a wall 9 times out of 10.

I used to be a regolar poster on /biog/ (mocs, discussion and shit) but the place is way too dead now. We've known this since the release of Brick by Brick and the start of the Faber files blog. The guy's called Christian Faber, and he's actually alright now, you should check out his blog and youtube channel, he posts a lot of stuff about the developement of Bionicle and his own project, and he's a great guy overall.

This, the barraki were the first time we got a nonclone build as enemy. Each enemy looked different, was build differently and had their own story. They also started off a theme where the villians each got their own build. Right up until the end with the zesk and skrall.

The only negative point would be their horrible squid launchers.

Heres a story my mom told me from when I was young. I still vaguely remember it happening.

So my mom had bought me a roborider and as we went home we decided to eat at mc'donalds. As we were eating our meal there was another parent with her child. However this kid had a form of autism, he was screaming and yelling and the mother looked so embarrased because of the situation. She was receiving dirty looks from the other customers eating there.

Well, a young me did something she would remember for ever. I took the package of the roborider and I took a seat at the table with the mother and her son and started started assembling the roborider next to the child. Talking about how I needed to assemble it, being like: "Look I need to now take this axle and put it here and connect this piece to that piece etc."

The autistic kid calmed down because of this because he was receiving attention or because he was genuinly interrested in what I was talking about.

My mom told me that his mom was shocked by what was happening, a child no older then 6 had calmed her son down and she told me that the other customers around them had embarrased looks on their faces. Shamed by the fact that a child actually started talking to the autistic child where as they just shot dirty stares and looks and the childs mother.

It would be a moment my mother would remember till her death and told me when she was nearing the end. How proud she was that I treated him as just another child, not a weirdo.

She is dead now, but I will always remember how proud she told that story to others. How proud she was of my actions that day.

Putting together Matau Hordika made me realize why people hate the inika build so much. It's not just the repetition, though it and the cracked joints certainly helped. The inika build just didn't feel like technic. Plus it's architecture. Parts clicked on one axis. Older sets were comprised of weird pieces that you could hary tell what they were until you put the toy together. And some bits you had to add from this direction while others you had to insert from that direction.

At least with Glatorian they tried to address the sameness a bit. And say what you will about inikabuild, but Gresh is beautiful. The palette, the marbled pieces that tied the colours together, the plant look, and the posture. He even manages to rock the long arms.

I surprised myself with discovering that these launchers actually do work and are even fairly accurate.
The squid head just tend to get stuck in the launcher and you're inclined to pull the tail further than necessary.

Not to shit on you, but Titan Takanuva sucks. He is ugly, he is unwieldy, his mask is too big to use in anything other than giant builds. People doesn't say they hate him but he is unpopular. He never gets revamped or alt-moced and his pieces are never used. Toa Ignika is more popular by comparison.

As disappointing as STARS were, I was really happy with Takanuva. He was cheap, cool-looking, and an opportunity for me to get an Avohkii and pair of shoulderpads after many years. I didn't have knowledge of bricklink then and I don't have access to it now. I recently got a third one out of chance and I'm thinking about painting his mask.
