I mean, why do you think they're trying to escape that hellhole in the first place? They're hungry, live in squalor, can't afford proper healthcare, and they're at risk of being victimized or killed by any druglord's bastard underling on a whim. God forbid someone you know crosses them, or else you might have your limbs cut off and your eyes gouged out just to be made an example.
