I saw Operation Dragonfire in 1989 and begged my parents for a Cobra Commander action figure. However there was none at retail at the time, the last one being released in 1987/88. Come 1991 a new figure got released, unknown to me, and when I had all but lost interest in G.I. Joe. So that Christmas my parents, aunt, grandpa, and older cousin got me one each.

GF bought me some LEGO for Christmas, told me not to buy anything until after Christmas. I went and bought the Rogue One ATST and it turns out that was one of the sets she got me. Never a bad thing to have two AT-STs though

This set right here. Got them from different family members. They wanted to return one of them. Me and my brother declined.
Having two made for an actual forest plus the waterfall looks amazing and the golden unicorn shields where from then on considered the most powerful shields in our friend-play-group.

My mom is interested in Lego only insofar as she thinks they're cute, so I'll occasionally show her a set she might think is fun. I showed her pic related cause it's a fun property and cool set, and she must have wrote it down or something because she got it for me about 7 months later for Christmas. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I had bought the set two months prior for our anniversary. I stupidly told her I already had it so she gave it to a tricky tray, when instead I should have just kept it and flipped it or built a super van
