>>7055950So I think I've got a reasonable explanation to that -- at least for Armada figures.
They were very gimmick-heavy and literal bricks with arms that moved just a tad bit. As far as engineering is concerned, you'd have to scrap the whole damn thing and start over from scratch rather than taking liberties with a base design. They'd be spending a hell of a lot of time working to engineer something both show accurate and able to transform, which is would be really fucking hard.
This isn't an issue with G1 KOs, as people eat that shit up no matter what. People like MT know they'll make their money back on G1, so they can afford to spend all that time and effort building clever and effective engineering tricks to make them as show-accurate as possible.
Not too many people are fond of Armada, let alone the Unicron Trilogy, so there's no guarantee they'd sell. I think Galaxy Meteor was testing the waters in a way. Plus MT has a hard-on for Starscream, so it works out either way.
And let's not forget the Minicons / Microns. If you were to go as far as to make the main figures show-accurate, people will want the option to tack those little bastards on. Gotta make them look proper too. It's nothing short of a miracle that someone could pull it off.
