I greatly appreciate them taking in the old Revoltechs approach of picking very niche IPs (Hellboy was a regular on Revo wish lists) and I love the 1000toys figures. However the jointing for this guy is a bit rough. Only the knees seem to be the bad example until we see how the shoulder looks posed out. They clearly prioritized aesthetics over articulation so the knees looking like that when bent is a bit disappointing coming from them. I'll still want to get it though.

I have a feeling Mignola had a lot of input on this figure and maybe that's why we're seeing more aesthetics over articulation. Like, there's no torso articulation whatsoever (maybe a waist swivel) and yes, those knees look rough.

Also, drew this up to get a better idea of the shoulder. They're definitely hiding something in there.

What's causing me more concern is the knees. They have huge gaps when they're bent. If they get a chance to re-engineer them, the should just push the joint closer to the "patella". The fingers on the RHoD also cause me some grief because they're way too boxy and don't reflect the way the comic fingers are more like flaps. I'd imagine a better way to do them would be either Gumby-style bendables, or a thin jointed finger with plates on top, but whatever. The tail also appears to be totally inflexible, and seems to function as a third leg in all of these shots.
They're still getting my money.

No. It's prioritizing the sculpt, because when the legs are straight you don't see any pins on the sides (like a marvel legends) and the knee isn't broken up with the muscle on the calf.
If articulation was higher on the list, we'd see a double joint of some kind.

If they weren't concerned on how the leg looked when in neutral stance, they could break up the sculpt more so it looks okay when bent. Folding separate kneecap or double joints, better positioning of the single joint plus deeper clearance behind the joint, whatever.
Instead of coming up with a better plan they broke up the leg in two simple pieces at the knee and threw in a single joint. Very typical method when aesthetics is the priority. Compromise was the joint is placed further back the center axis so you can get some more bend. Hence the gap.

I think so too. Minimal break lines and visible joints must have been required. That torso, separating at the chest muscle and abs to have a ball joint couldn't hurt...

You can see how far down of an opening there is at the armpit for the shoulder joint. I think there is some sort of multi-joint system so the shoulder muscle sculpt can move away from the shoulder joint and it can overlap with the body sculpt when you spread the arms. Kind of like Killy's shoulder armor but that's done with a single ball joint. The lower opening of the upper arm is to provide that extra space for the shoulder joint to go to when the shoulder sculpt overlaps with the body perhaps.

They always put that for legal reasons. The most that could change at a point when you see a painted promotion picture like this is the paintjob. Maybe a head sculpt. Anything more like joints and engineering I can't recall any figure changing at this stage.

As far as I know 1000toys stuff usually has limited time to PO, cause they need to know how much of that product needs to be produced.
Plus there is a non-return deposit if you order it through the DH shop or even a full deposit through 1000toys shop.

There will be plenty and you can even wait to buy it until you see reviews.

Don't bother to preorder unless it's ultra limited like some Mezco website exclusive. Even hot shit like the Punisher you could buy within a month of its release and Previews exclusives are easy buys.

In short, only weebs believe shit should be preordered only because they only shop online and don't know that Japanese collector shops in Japan have stock sitting around forever without price increases. Same as in the US.

This would be very fragile.

I honestly don't think the basic structure of the hand is at fault. It's a solid design, capitalizing off the strengths of past winners like ThreeA's bots. The visible pins and hinges are kind of unavoidable, it's either that or you go to a friction hinge which is a bad idea for many reasons. All they really needed to do to make these work better is taper the segments as they get closer to the end of the fingers, and soften those harsh robotic edges with some chipping and scratching. His arm is supposed to look like it's made of stone, so I wish they'd pushed that look and texture a bit more.

My Synthetic Human came in a while ago. Apart from the looseness of the waist piece (I assume it's supposed to be like that) I'm pretty happy with it. Definitely has a certain versatility to it. Sort of neutrally evil-looking.

There's various figures with that type of soft plastic, but i can't see anything detrimental to it.
Just think it of as a thicker version of soft rubbery skirts and webgear GI Joes (GI Joe Vs line and 25th line) have and they're still holding up over a decade later

I have a couple of these NECA robots from that Valerian robot and it's basically the same thing. It's pretty nice, though it looks more limited on Hellboy because of his giant chest.

Yuta from 1000Toys stated that there would be a DHD release for $90, and a retail release for $85 without the sword and horns. He said all of this after the $120 pricepoint was announced, so I'm not sure if it was a case of miscommunication, or if $90 was the original intended price and Dark Horse jacked it up without keeping him in the loop.

Sorry, but some guy was bullshitting how a 1000 Toys figure is 12x better and worth the price, despite nothing about it actually being more than 2x better than that of a normal action figure.
I posted pictures of my own 1000 Toys to prove that i've handled their toys and don't think the value is there.
And yes, I'm going to buy it. Why else would i be in this thread? 99.999999% of the threads i post in is because i have a genuine interest in them, overpriced or not.

Just because I'm critical and not deluded about the stuff i like doesn't mean i don't like them.
I'm not going to lie to people or myself to justify their costs, unlike you and others constantly do.

Hellboy is a well known comics icon and his creator is considered to be a major influencer in his medium primarily because of his work in Hellboy. Nihei and his work haven't had nearly that level of influence or exposure.

Japanese company makes a toy for Dark Horse who then sells it through their own distribution network. So it's all shipped to the US and then they ship it out from there to whomever.
It's not like 1000toys makes the toys in Japan. Like with everything, it's ships out of China. 1000toys last real figure was Killy and that cost almost $80 and came with like two accessories.

A lot of times listings are blank and don't always include what they come with. Usually the only way to tell is just the photographs, so it's not surprising that there is a photograph with the exclusive bits now.

The full listings usually don't come until later, which I guess is why you think the listings are usually complete.
Dark Horse is also holding this preorder much earlier than normal, so this may also be why details are still sketchy. They haven't even shown off the gun.

I would also bet this. See, I'm guessing BBTS has to cover their own ass by going by the info they were given. If it turns out they're wrong and the toy ships with the extra face, fantastic. But if they promise it and it doesn't come, people will pitch a fucking fit.

I'm inclined to believe Yuta since he literally comes from the source. I know that things can change last minute and sometimes creators aren't kept in the loop, but I'm hoping he's right.

If the only things the regular release don't come with are the horns and sword then I am a-ok just getting it. The horns do nothing for me and I'll never display him with them and the sword, while nice, is nothing special (a funny thing to say about Excalibur).

I like the horns but they aren't a deal breaker and Excalibur is more of a later days thing which while nice is ultimately not worth the extra hassle of paying up front.
The lack of the extra face and the gun on the other hand is kind of make or break for me.

I'm probably alone here, but I honestly don't care that much about the face because it's not all that different. He's grimacing slightly, revealing a sliver of teeth. The rest of the face looks pretty much the same to me. Hell, at a glance, you might not even notice his mouth is open at all.

If the face were dramatically different, then I would understand, but people seem to be falling to absolute pieces over a slightly different variant face. It's not even one of those situations where the missing face is absolutely essential to the character. It's just Hellboy looking 5% more bothered.

It does feel good, 133 isn't a burden at all. Glad I can get everything for even less than what some will end up paying for the non-exclusive with less parts. Having to pay more, get less, and also play the 'let's see what it comes with' guessing game sounds like a pain.
