Pretty excited about the new 4-pack. Unlike the Jedha one that gave us a useless repack Jyn, this gives me a RangeTrooper with different colored boots. Not a huge fan of the Han in a fur coat, but at least it's not a direct repack.

There's two distinctly different target audiences for these figures. It's cheaper for them to produce a larger variety of figures for their 5poa line for kids. Expecting EVERYTHING to have your "modern quality and articulation" and scoffing at anything that doesn't seems pretty elitist to me.

Some of these figures are lucky enough to get done in TVC style but for a lot of these characters the 5POA line is their only appearance. I wouldn't mind 5POA as much if it was more like 7 or 8 POA. I don't think everything needs to be super-articulated but it is annoying to get Jedi who can't hold their lightsabers with two hands or troopers who have to hold their rifle out with a single prone arm.

Mattel's releasing Jurassic World figures in the same scale at the same price and they at least come with ball-jointed shoulders, knees, elbows and hinge hips, just a waist. That's 10POA for the same price as a 5POA Star Wars figure.

This. At least give us knees and elbows. I can live with swivel shoulders and hips, but knees and elbows are a must. Jedi/Sith and troopers should all be SA but I'm okay with officers, background aliens, non-battle droids etc having more limited articulation.

By comparison, 5poa is a decent average/passable standard to have. Plus, the face sculpts and detail are getting more accurate all the time because of their 3d scanning mumbo jumbo.

Elbows I 100% agree with, knees half the time make the figure never stand correctly. I've always been indifferent to the variety of wrist/ankle joints. I'd rather they include a random extra like a new helmet/vest/coat/whatever, rather than having selling another entire version with the new whatever already sculpted on.

Is English not your first language? At no point did I or anyone else say that. The fact of the matter is that TVC releases are more selective, and a large portion of the line going forward is going to be made of re-releases to keep costs down. Which means we're not getting that many new TVC figures, which means the ones we are getting are going to be limited mainly to more popular characters.

By contrast the 5POA line doesn't have that requirement and can pretty much include anyone. Being in the 5POA line doesn't exclude a character from TVC, but being that TVC's selection is much tougher, a lot of characters that did manage to get 5POA releases may not get TVC releases. Why you take this and assume I'm saying "well this character got a 5POA, guess he won't get a TVC" is beyond me.

You completely made that up and pulled it out your ass. The only major re-releases so far were Walmart Black Series that most people never saw. And we have 14 figures and or vehicles that they've announced going to be released but haven't revealed yet. There's no way the majority will be straight up re-releases.

It's not important to complete the Rogue One crew at this time, it's not like they went on any other adventures together. They're all new characters and most of them weren't that popular. I only bought Jyn before the movie came out and didn't realize how ultimately unimportant she became in the movie.

Hasbro hinted that Walmart is to blame at their SDCC panel, and posted this slide. They said certain companies only buy large amounts of figures like twice a year(Walmart), and then never stock the waves in-between, so you never see a second or third wave. They even said they're not purposely making the figures and then not giving them to you, because that'd be a shitty business model. They said these companies(walmart) needed fewer waves. So to circumvent that, they're cutting waves to two waves a year, but with more figures in each wave and store exclusives to supplement it. They also said they're creating a second Black Series line to circumvent the cutting of waves down to two a year, and that this second line would be called Black Series Archives and act as a Best Of line, and re-release all the hard to find and in demand figures solely as their own waves in their own line to get around Walmart's bullshit. So, you'll still see a lot of Black Series, but a second line of it in different boxes with better figures on the pegs.

I think the size on those wings is a good trade off between accuracy and price. The bigger one is obviously more screen accurate, but this one's are at least bigger than the usual vintage-based budget TIE like pic related.

I do like that they made everything in Rebels a throwback to the wonky proportions of the old toyline. Retroactively giving weird vintage Stormroopers and TIE fighters legitimacy. Shame Rebels was 99% skippable filler, but that's a whole 'nother story.

The wings of a standard TIE should be three times the height of the cockpit (ie a 3:1 ratio). The wings on the big TIE toy are larger than that. I can't decide if I want the giant Falcon. It's way too much online, and I doubt Hasbro could re-release it ever at retail. It would have to be a Haslab just to get it again, and I doubt there would be as much enthusiasm for getting an already released vehicle through what is in essence a kickstarter. It's also way huge; probably too big to really have fun with or properly display. I kinda like the Original Trilogy Collection version since it's a retooled version of the POFT2 Falcon, which was a retooled version of the vintage one. It has a lot of the features you'd want in a Falcon, but in a budget scale. However I really like the med bay and the Dejarik table is really fucking cool with an actual place to sit, pic related. That gun next to it is removable. I dunno who the fuck would put a gun there in the first place. The booth there looks great with a TVC Chewie and 3PO sitting at it.

This was the only thing that stopped me back in 2008. I was willing to pay for it but I had absolutely nowhere to display it reasonably, and there wasn't any point in having it if I was only ever going to keep it stuffed in a box in a closet.

The guy probably has the gun there because that's where you store it when you have the TFA Falcon closed up.

One of the play ideas for the TFA Falcon is once you have it opened up, you take the cover piece you removed (which has lots of molded details on its interior) and attach it to the back of the Falcon to form a little base or something. You then attach the gun to the cover piece as a base defense gun.

It's a fun Falcon, well worth picking up for the sub-$50 it goes for now. Everyone maligns the Nerf feature, and yea I could do without it, but the Nerf stuff hides completely inside the Falcon when not in use, and shooting stuff with Nerf darts is fun (conversely, I absolutely hate when the Nerf stuff is visible like on the TIE Striker toy).

The Nerf doesn't bother me, you never see it unless you want to use it. The only things that I dislike on the TFA one is not having a ramp and no proper landing gear. I also wish someone would make a shapeways dish to replace the FA ones on it, so it could work as an OT version.

The Tie Striker's a cool vehilce, I don't mind the Nerf on that. I thought it was a fun feature.

They really need to update Boba Fett the same way they did this figure. The tooling already exists for a great Boba Fett with the recent 5poa figure. It looks like they may have even 3D scanned someone wearing a costume to get that figure as perfect as it was, just like they did with the 5poa Storm Trooper. Just look how outdated the previous TVC Fett figures were. That new sculpt needs to be on an articulated figure. He's already the one I use as my default figure, since the others look ugly as fuck next to it.

Ron Howard wanted him more human anyway, and said that it made it seem more realistic that Han would be jealous of Vos stealing Q'ira, if he looked more like a man. He was supposed to have prosthetics though, but they ran out of time for that because of re-shoots.

if the other part of the peg it's still inside the hand then heat that shit the fuck out, use some pincers or a nail to get it out the hand without breaking it, then break a nail or a clip and grab some super glue, heat both parts of the broken peg again and use the broken nail or clip to put together the peg without drilling it in, also don't forget to use the super glue on the peg so gets a better grip

That TFA Falcon showed up at Tuesday Morning during Black Friday last year. My brother in law got it for my toddler—about $50. Last I looked my local Tuesday Morning still had some and it was in the $$70-80 range.
I’ve also seen it in the clearance section of Walmart, Target, and GameStop recently. GameStop is even still doing 50% off clearance items, so maybe just check there.

To be honest, it’s a solid Falcon, even with the massive pop-out cannons. The lights and sounds are pretty fun, and the Nerf dart storage can act as your “smuggling” compartments.

Who are they trying to to fool with this shit, just because a figure is rare and discontinued doesn't mean its worth a 100x markup when far better quality figures exist for almost the same price.

But this also means if you want a 1/6 Star Wars figure but don't want to spend $200 for one, and thought you could buy one for $100 or so with lower quality and older sculpt but cheaper price you're shit out of luck, fucking 2011 figures selling for the same price as 2017 figures, the absolute state of 1/6 collecting.

Honestly I think the bigger issue is that they're releasing such an outdated figure in TVC. They listened to demand for re-release way too late and now they're wasting a slot on a figure that doesn't even fit the higher standards of the line. If they really wanted to reissue this guy rather than just make a new one, they should've just put it in some retail exclusive pack. Maybe put all of the existing KOTOR figures in a set.

It's not horrible, but even for the time it wasn't stellar. He has ball-jointed shoulders and elbows and swivel wrists, but his only leg articulation is swivel hips which you can't really make use of anyway because of his plastic skirt. Effectively it means the figure's only usable articulation is in the arms and waist. This was pretty standard for the 30th Anniversary line (but again, not stellar) but really subpar for TVC.

If you want a preview, check the Jurassic World line Mattel has now. Their 3.75 human figures use face printing, the results are a little mixed. Some look great, some look meh, and just like with regular paint apps sometimes the print is slightly lopsided. Maybe Hasbro's process will be more solid but the JW figures should give you an idea of what to expect.

The problem with retail, is a store has to feel they can sell a toy at the asking price. It's unreasonable for a retail store to try and sell something like the Sail Barge, because they'd never be able to make their money back on it or turn a profit, because it would cost over $500. I believe it also cost like $600 total after shipping costs. Getting anything over $100 at retail may be extremely difficult now that Toys R Us is gone. Anything major will probably be Online exclusive and Haslab. While retail will be smaller vehicles.

I think pretty are rightfully salty about the price of TVC Combat Assault Tank and TVC Tie Fighter. The asking price is very steep. Not everyone is a CIB collector who wants to hold onto it for resell value or complete some massive collection. I think most people here want to open it up, and display the thing. It's conflating the issue with the tank and Tie Fighter. People bitch because the tank since it's a smaller vehicle and doesn't come with an action figure for the price point. At least the Tie Fighter is larger, though the tank itself may have more parts, it does however come with a pilot.

The line itself is also purely adult collector driven and the vehicles are a much higher quality, with more parts than the typical 5poa retail vehicles and larger scale. If they expected to sell more of TVC Tie Fighter or the Assault Tank, I'm sure the price would be lower, because they would make up the loss through more sales. Hasbro even explained how that works in Joecon panels, where sales numbers effect the price and tooling and paint apps, etc. The fact is, pretty much ONLY adults are buying Star Wars, they're not making the same kind of sales a line like Jurassic World is right now, because they don't have a child market. The only thing keeping Star Wars from really going tits up like GI Joe on toys is that there's still a media presence for the property.

Not to mention that the economics of toys has changed significantly over the past several years, to where a larger vehicle now costs a lot more to produce. $80 seems fair for the Tie Fighter to me. For the tank I'd be more comfortable at $60 considering it doesn't even have a driver. But both vehicles were demanded by fans, and Hasbro gave them to us. And the Tie Fighter is going for crazy prices on the after market.

The problem with that is it prevents more vehicles from coming out and even hurts the toy line. That's what killed GI Joe according to Hasbro. People weren't buying the Toys R Us exclusive vehicle packs for $80, despite that they had four action figures a Skystriker jet and a Hiss Tank. A real deal. However Toys R Us had to clearance them down, and so they never ordered more vehicles. And since the line was Toys R Us exclusive at that point, Hasbro decided it wasn't worth the expense to only make small profits off a line and just outright cancelled it because of "I'll wait till it's on clearance." It hurt the line, simply by people not supporting it.

People wouldn't pay full price for pic related when you got so much with it.

Clearence has nothing to do with Hasbro's number technically, since they already sold the vehicles to the store. However a store may choose not to buy vehicles at all, because of it or only buy a few, because they know they either wont sell very many or be forced to sell them below the regular retail price to move them.

I genuinely don't know what to do /toy/ I love both scales for their own reasons and both have their pros and cons, a very huge con of 1/6 is the price obviously which means

>1 Hot Toys/Sideshow figure = ~10 TVC figures

But theres so much more detail and articulation you can get out of 1/6 figures, fuck I don't know what to do. Aftermarket prices are usually 100x worse and more bloated on 1/6 figures than $3.75 so that is likely to be the driving force in my decision on which scale to make my primary focus too

I'd go for the Hot Toys. You can get a fair bit back if you have to sell them on and I imagine the TVC figures are going to be much easier and cheaper to get later down the line if you miss out on them while then 1:6 market is shit when it comes to second hand cause of Hot Toys.

Yeah I think so too, plus I might even manage to spot a neat TVC figure somewhere offline and be able to pay the bare minimum for it without shipping, whereas I'm not going to spot any 1/6 figures offline and they cost a lot at release already while the aftermarket is just even worse as you said.

Although, ebay seems flooded with Hot Toys 1/6 First Order Stormtroopers right now, and Sideshow is running a special deal on them too, no body likes those trash ST designs it turns out.

You get a surprising amount of variety, HT is releasing SW figures like mad, thing is if you're a poorfag you get less variety than you'd get from the amount of TVC/Black Series 3.75" you could buy for the same price as 1 (one) Hot Toys, thats true.

But what you get from 1/6 that you don't get from 3.75 is amazing articulation, superior posing, huge kitbashing potential due to the universal 1/6 scale, better detailed sculpt, weapons, etc...

I should know cause I own a Sideshow Clone Trooper and he's just more fun to pose than my entire 3.75 collection, pic related.

... but with 3.75 you can army build and make playsets and bases out of fucking styrofoam etc, not so much with 1/6 obviously

The guy who does Retroblasting. He hates all the articulation modern Star Wars figures have. He also picked a fight with Paul from Jeditemplearchives over Jabba's Sail Barge and admitted that Paul said he was willing to bury the hatchet if they both agreed to take down their posts related to it. Michael was angry at Hasbro and wanted the Haslab to fail, because he doesn't like Disney Star Wars or Hasbro, which devolved in him attacking people for liking things he doesn't like. It was really quite spectacular really. He went full Chris-Chan with it and did podcasts and said in a video which I think he now deleted that he'd start deleting and blocking people from his youtube comments over it.

In fairness, the JW line is pretty phenomenal compared to the basic non-Black Series SW stuff. TVC looks like it's going to turn things around though.

So then Paul went and made a blog post about how Michael was making videos about him bad person for wanting the Sail Barge. He particularly used the word "scummy" to describe the Sail Barge being offered as a pre-order and used the word "shill" to describe Paul, and shit on the prequel vehicles acting like they prevented Hasbro from putting out the Sail Barge at retail. And accused Paul and anybody who wanted the Sail Barge as being hired shills working for Hasbro and actually accuses them of this in the video. And called Paul "scummy" for working to advertise the Sail Barge.|

Podcast where Michael says that Paul told him he was willing to bury the hatchet if they both deleted their public posts about it, but Michael refused, because he was salty over the Haslab succeeding.

It technically is. It's over sized and out of scale but is a really cool toy designed to swallow 3.75 action figures whole. It may even be big enough to swallow a 6 inch figure, from photos I've seen. Good luck finding one though, I haven't seen a single one at retail. These would have been easy to find had Toys R Us not gone under.

What about people who didn't have any of that or to add the new 50th specific vehicles?

The Hisstank itself is different, with new tooling for the gun turret, and made to match up with Hazard Vipers. Likewise the paint scheme on the Skystriker and Joes is for a new sub-team, Wolf Squad, a new sorta Tiger Force running through the 50th line. That's why many of them had the grey paint scheme.

I've been able to convince myself not to get it by focusing on the lack of articulation, that sort of thing really matters to me. Blue, though, is literally a toy I've been waiting almost ten years for, an articulated 1/12th scale raptor (well, movie-style raptor anyway). So I'm gonna go nuts for her, and for any others they put out.

Funny enough, considering this is the Star Wars general, I've been thinking about making a saddle for the Indoraptor figure and having SW figures ride it. It's the perfect size to serve as a mount, after all.

And while it's true that you can't see the little dots if you're holding it at arm's lenth, the face looks blurry/lightly painted. It's almost like looking at a faded photograph.
Of course, you can still see the wide-spaced dots on close exam too.

Hasbro relies on normal paint apps too. They're basically using the low res dots as shading and weather, and in conjunction as layered paint apps.
Figuarts are just the dots and that's why it looks worse, because the unpainted plastic shows inbetween the dots.

They announced that they're trying to complete the main cast and announced Ezra and Chopper, so it'd make sense if they're giving them to us that they'd do like the bounty hunters and re-release the previous figures at the same time. Were these guys in the actual movie? Might've missed them because of the camrip quality. The thirty seconds of mudtroopers rallying around Beckett with shit blowing up everywhere was cool, but it was hard to tell wtf was going on.

Wish they'd spent more time giving us a context as to who's fighting the Empire and made that portion of the movie five times longer. Han feels like he's enlisted in the Imperial Army for thirty seconds.
