I made me a new lil racer. It is based off of the 1970 Chaparral 2J succ car. It uses 2 big fans to succ itself to the ground and provide a higher amount of downforce. It could have been a winner but reliability was absolute shit for this car. What do you goys think of it?

Opinions on the Voltron set? I built it last night. Solid as fuck. But there is partsforming on the Black Lion, which is frankly very disappointing. Not much articulation overall, but I find I don't mind too much. It's undoubtedly very well done overall

Yeah, that was the one set that attracted me to its parts, especially those 1x6 arches that I make heavy use of.

Think I'm gonna go with the Mountain Starter and Arctic Starter for all dose minifigs, the beehive, the husky doggo and the mosquito on ice. Plus I can always use more trans-light blue panels for my SHIP.

I think the upper half of Garmadon's body is shorter than the lower half so it might not fit a second outrider back piece on it, but I dont have it so I can't say for sure. Someone else try this and report back.

That's why so many of the Star Wars battle packs confused me. If they were for army building then why did so many of the troops in each one have unique prints? And any more their choices make no sense. I mean the bounty hunter pack would have been fine if it was an anomaly but more and more we get individuals and not as many troopers in those packs.

Nah man, some people just wish Lego had more non-vehicle sets in their line-ups. Technic is welcome here but just not as popular so you rarely see it.
When people don't reply a lot to someone posting their progress of a humongous technic set it's because, well, it's just a standard set. The few wacky mocs people like Mahj post are well received.

I can't speak for the rest of the thread but personally I dont care too much for the vehicle sets and such that mostly rely on technic joints because it doesn't feel the same as building with pure Lego or sets that only use a few of those parts. I built pic related and it just didn't feel like lego. It's alright but its just not really the same.

I personally use Stud.io . It's a third-party design that is tied in with Bricklink.com, so you could design whatever, then price it out and order the pieces for it. The controls are a little bit finicky if you don't use a mouse though IMO.

Lego Digital Designer is another one that people use, but it hasn't had an update in a while and you sometimes can make a sweet MOC, only to find out that the pieces you need don't exist in the colors you want them in. That one is a little bit more user-friendly IMO.

I'm in a similar boat as well.
I want to make a ship but cant decide on a design. I always end up making one or two separate parts (engine, wings, etc) then cant come up with anything to match or incorporate the designs of what I've already built.
The cockpit on this (>>7074252) seems very close to what you're trying to build, I'd suggest starting there. Try to start at the front and work your way back an don't burn yourself out on it. Maybe browse Flickr or Pinterest and look for similar ships to draw inspiration from. Good luck!

Yeah it was nice to see the regular places again. It was short, but good to continue the tradition after a year of staying home.
I brought loads of beach/summer/diving related lego stuff that i didn't really do anything with. I guess i'll try to actually build a lego beach diorama at some point. It would give me a lot more control and time to set things up (especially if it isn't 35C out).

Overall worse. Parts that are made in Denmark, Mexico or Hungary are more or less the same quality as back in the day. However certain parts (like special pieces and parts for the collectible minifigures) are made in China and they are noticeably worse quality and drags down the total average quality

It's still worth buying. In your place I'd pick up a couple sets of whatever you liked back then, to compare old and new, maybe look into Creator sets as a parts source and definitely check out bricklink. Parts selection is awesome now.

Bricklink doesn't have any quality distinctions, it doesn't really need to IMO. Minifigs aside it's just certain parts and certain colors that are weaker and more prone to breaking than others, like 1x1 slopes and reddish brown anything.

I'd argue Minecraft is a fairly close contender for "boys" castle. Elves is best because it isn't licenced. That considered, HP and MC are good for parts, even if the entire thing isn't perfect castle.

I think minecraft sets are reasonably priced for what you get (standard license tax) but because of the style they use a ton of bricks and extra plastic where normal sets would cut corners.

A good example is that $90 set that's coming out. It seems like it would be a good set for about $45-60, but because it's minecraft it has twice the depth that a lot of the facadé play sets have. Even with the open 'windows' on every module, using 2x2 bricks to build up the sides and all the jumper plates plus detail really drive the part count up without driving up value (IMO).

The smaller sets are a much better value since they are less redundant. Between the blocky aesthetic and focus on terrain/structures, it's a good theme to complement something like nexo knights to make your own space knights mining theme.

Can someone help me with some SNOT building techniques? I made something in LDD using the technique on the right. The headlight brick can be used to hold a plate. On the other side, there needs to be room for regular bricks. In LDD this looked fine, but in reality, the stud of the headlight brick sticks out slightly too far.

Now using the technique on the left with a 1x1 brick with technic hole there are no issues, but according to Lego that's an illegal building technique.

What would be the "correct" way to achieve this seemingly simple build without using a fuckload of parts?

I also found it weird that LDD says the technique with the headlight brick is legal, while it's quite clear that the horizontal stud obstructs adjecent brick.

I've seen that part before, but it's really bulky. There's lots of angle plates and things like that, but not a whole lot with anti-studs.

Wait, what? Do you have a source corroborating that or is it just speculation on your part? If it is because we haven't got anything new sets during the summer waves then I don't think you should be worried, Speed Champions only gets a couple of releases around March every year probably because of how much of a pain in the ass it is to deal with all the different manufacturer licensing. Just wait until 2019, friendo.

Also "illegal" pretty much only comes into play when designing official Lego sets or something in that style

Here's a possible solution to your problem. The sides of these old fence pieces can accept studs as a connection. But this answer assumes you've got the room to accommodate a 4x1 brick instead of just a 2x1 brick working area, it also assumes that you don't need the studs on top of the brick to be connected.

Honestly, the most difficult part when it comes to snots builds is learning the encyclopedias worth of obscure pieces and connection types.

Fair enough. I struggled getting the angles right to accomodate the cockpit without over-extending past it, so I just settled with this for now.

Here's the interior, it's fairly barebones. I can fit quite a few minifigs and some cargo. The ramp can lower down to add some more light as well.
