It's a very in demand figure and hasbro just aren't getting it out there in large quantities.

I am somewhat annoyed with the release dates, Star action figures can't help it because they get screwed by Hasbro who hold things back and keep knocking back the release of product.
It's tiresome to have to keep checking, I just want to order what I want at one time and have it in one go.

I went with Kapow for the Gamorrean Guard about a month ago- everywhere else still hasn't got them.

So, SHF Princess Leia is up for pre order right now. I am trying to decide if i want to pick her up. It's by far the best looking version of this figure, it just doesn't come with a lot. That being said, what else could it come with. Maybe the Death Star plans?

Not a huge Star Wars fan by any means, but I preordered because the SW Figuarts get credulousness overpriced afterwards like Padme.

HLJ says she comes with a hood, 4 extra hands, an alt face, and 2 guns. Not terrific by any means but not bad either.

It's only really the tamashi web exclusives which Padmé was but Leia isn't. Maul and ROTJ Luke as well but with those two it probably had more to do with being the very first guys in the line so less people got them but even then it kind of normalized due to reissues. ROTS Anakin is also a fast seller but they will surely reissue him several times.
Many guys will never go up in price or at least never as huge as Qui-gon, Padme and AOTC Anakin. Jango, the Obi-Wans and troopers will always stay cheap.

Depends, really. MAFEX is probably the best, in terms of options since it can be the specialist or regular, has a cloth strap on one of the guns and they're all painted really well and has the best overall height since DTs were a bit taller, but the shoulder pads are on a really dumb system Medicom keeps using where they're connected to the torso. The model kit is also really nice and has plenty of options too, but the guns will be entirely without detail unless you know how to paint or do water slides.

The SHF is pretty good too, as most SHF troopers are, but it's a bit short and the guns are severely lacking in painted detail and you can only get regular troopers of those, as the specialist was an exclusive with an expensive blu ray set.

The BS is the very definition of "decent." it's a bit too lanky and the gun is guaranteed to be bent, but it's fine for an army builder if you want to stick him in the back somewhere.

Overall, I say MAFEX > Model kit > SHF > BS

Bit the bullet and got the VC Mimban troops from Robotkingdom because I knew id never find them retail in my area.

Overall pretty cool sculpt. The paint job is pretty solid but i noticed there is an empty space behins the helmets blast shield that didnt get the weathering effect. The long rifle is a bitch and hard for the troops to hold though.

Mafex left, BS middle, SHF right.
The black series in the pic is holding the Mafex's short rifle with the cloth strap and nice paint apps.

I should also point out that the Mafex and Bandai model kit are the only versions that come with the scoped rifle which I think is their coolest looking weapon.

Black and White Genndy CW outfit.
A more angular face/head shape like TCW with realistic eyes (compared to the blank alien spots from Genndy) and black tats if any at all.
Second place would be the blue TCW bandaged look. I imagine that whole character design would look fantastic if it existed IRL with textures similar to Reys costumes. TCW style made it way too smooth and look like a cheap fan-mod of a videogame compared to what they intended.

But I still wonder where the fucking CIS droids are, way more necessary.

According to Steve Evans from Hasbro, the Walmart exclusive Rey released over a month ago... yet Walmart hasn't put any on their shelves except a few small instances in Canada in which people have even seen one at retail. This does not look good for Mimban Stormtrooper, which was also supposed to be out over a month ago.

Also Walmart isn't listing TVC on their plan-o-grams according to Jeditemplearchives. And many Walmart stores never even stocked any of TVC in the first place, making it seem like you'll never find any of the store exclusives like the Tie Fighter or Mimban Trooper.

Literally all we changed for action figures is delete a bunch of pops and add some blind bagged stuff/ move the third party construction blocks to action figures.

Apparently Wal-Mart is pushing the big action figure reset back to October for some reason, maybe to match up with bringing turtles back as well?

They're just a one note comedy relief copy of HK-47 constantly making edgy comments about how much they enjoy killing "meatbags", but they basically look like and have the same dynamic as R2 and C-3PO at the same time (only painted black so you know they're evil). The only thing the horrible Star Wars sequels have done for me is stop blindly going into the movies.
For movies/books/etc i like, i usually go in blind, because i dno't want the story spoiled for me by trailers and discussion. I know I'm going to watch something like Avengers 4, so I avoid all media about it.
With TFA, i thought it was mediocre as fuck, bordering on bad, but i thought maybe the next movie would fix issues that might have just been Jar Jar Abram's faultiness. Do i went in blind for TLJ, thinking Ryan would fix the issues, especially since people seem to have liked his other movies.
NOPE. Instead, it seems like the entire franchise is poisoned now, because everyone in charge is awful for letting all that shit pass through. So I'm only going to see the next movies based on whether the trailers/word of mouth is good.
The Han movie failed that trailer/wom test and I don't see any hope for the third sequel because the characters are just awful.

Still, i'll buy shit just because a toy looks cool. I bought Dr Aphra, without even reading the comic because her and the droids are neat. I've bought other SW characters just because they're visually neat too. For old characters? Must buys if i like them.
Buying what you like shouldn't be as hard as you're trying to make it out to be. I'd support rapist if they produced a good product, and i probably do, given how awful hollywood is.

I still think the POTF figures look better than whatever 3.75" figures they have out now for the kids. There's something about the combination of realistic sculpt but then giving them these really static poses and only 5POA that makes them look really awkward. While the sculpts aren't all that great in the Power of the Force line, I think they pull the 5POA off a lot better thanks to the "heroic" poses.

What do you think? Countless people have this problem, with prices to back it up. Yes, it's a problem. I own the same figure and mine is ready to break. I was lucky, and somehow able to take off the left hands 2 times. I won't even touch it now. The plastic they use for that hand is just ultra weak. Put on the light saber hand and NEVER touch it again.

My Veers and Piett arrived. I am a little bummed that they went the cheap route and just reused the same Tarkin body with a different torso piece. They even had the chance to mix it up ith parts from Krennic and Thrawn but didn't do it.
I wish Piett were smaller and Veers a tall Chad with Tarkin as the middle ground. I guess I should be happy to have gotten the three best boys of the empire in one go. It will surely take them years until they warm up that mold again for other variants like Ozzel, Needa, someone with a black hat and the entire conference room.

Same. Would have been appropriate for 20, but 30 is gouging.
Problems:
-Soft rubber diaper greatly inhibits hip joints
-Double-knees are ugly, made of soft plastic that feels and looks like it's already stressed
-Faux fur is looks more like a plush than a wild animal
-Paint is skimped

But on the plus side, the head, waist, and arm articulation is pretty good. The should pads don't get in the way, either. Sculpt detailing is also pretty good.
I don't regret buying it at full price, and I will definitely get another if I can get it for sub-$20. And fuck Moloch at $30.

Most criticism for the movies didn't even start right away either. IT was barely a trickle when the movies came out and forgotten about within months, and it really did not explode until RLM did their review for TPM.
And despite the hate that the prequels did get during the time, fans were still super excited about the toys, the characters, and all the media (books, cartoons, and games) being released about the prequels.

Republic Commando and the multiple Clone War cartoons were highly anticipated and hugely popular before they even came out.

You can't say the same about any media revolving around the sequels.

Anyway, most of the hate from Star Wars back then and now comes from the hardcore and nerds. So you can definitely compare the nerds reactions from back then and now, and the difference is a giant gulf. Even with RLM's revival and explosion of hating on TPM in the 00s, the hate between the prequels and sequels is a gigantic swirling gulf that leads to a dark abyss.
Almost nothing is liked about the sequels, whereas nerds back then and now still look fondly at various aspects of the prequels.

The toylines were popular. The media was popular. People were still hyped and stoked for more

People had problems with very specific elements (love dialogue, midichlorians, etc), but by and large, even the nerds were wanting more from what George Lucas created.
It's why there's still demand for nearly everything from the prequels and this demand never stopped since the day they showed the first trailers.

Gamestop has Bespin Han now if anyone is looking for one. I picked up one and he's pretty fantastic, perhaps the best 6-inch Han you can currently get. The face printing is great on this figure and looks even better in hand, and they gave him double joints in his neck, which I haven't see before in a Black Series figure.

There’s the Black Series First Order Tie-fighter, Rey’s speeder, Luke’s speeder, speederbike, Bandai model kit speederbike, SHFiguarts speederbike, SHfiguarts Darth Maul’s speeder, model kit STAP, and...that it. Where do you get your ignorant beliefs from?

Sculptors sculpt their work at something like 102% of actual size, because shit shrinks when molded.
So they already know what to compensate beforehand. What you see there is what you're going to see in the molded production figures, because they're not going to sculpt shit if it's not going to show up.

Also, the molding process is identical for $5 to $100 figures. Ever since McFarlane started producing highly detailed figures in the 90s, most companies have followed suit in his techniques and almost nothing has changed since then.
Every detail you see in a production figure is up to the sculptor.

You can get finer details that aren't available for practically all action figures if you go to special resins and metals, but they're delicate as fuck hence you only see models using them.

Pic of sharp high detailed toy where you can actually see all the details highlighted because of paint, unlike most of Hasbro's stuff. HINT HINT on why you think Hasbro's 1:18 wax head sculpts are more detailed than their production figures.

What likely happens is that the studio sends out the designs to Hasbro and they tell them who has speaking roles and how long they're out in the movie. Or if they're important to the plot.
Scenes like Zuvio's probably got cut 2-3 months before the movie's release and by that time everything has been produced and shipped, so the toy ends up being of a character that had less screentime than Snaggletooth.

i assumed they usually got actual sequences explained to them, albiet a rough outline or even the storyboards. I guess this depends on the studio.

According to them during recent interviews, things are more complicated now that Disney is in charge, because they don't deal with only Lucasfilm anymore. Lucasfilm is only sharing with them some things because things have to be run by Disney now. There's essentially too many cooks in the kitchen and they're being secretive about what is and isn't in their movies. They only can make figures based on what Lucasfilm is allowed to reveal to them.

The end result to this is a bunch of characters nobody ends up wanting, or in the case of Zuvio isn't really in the movie. They said they only made him to have a random alien. It just so happened though that FA was shit and had terrible designs and Zuvio was only in a few frames of film and you wouldn't even know he was there, but Hasbro was unaware since they hadn't seen the movie until after it was out like everyone else. They know they fucked up though making him and several other characters and admitted that, but said it takes 12-16 months for them to change course and fix shit, because figures are planned roughly a year in advance. Good figures are on the horizon though. 4-LOM and Bespin Solo are fantastic figures, and they're re-visiting hard to get figures with the Archives line and giving them face printing.

This is basically what happens all the time. For example, the toys for the original Jurassic Park movie are actually based on the book because that's the only material they had to work with in order to get toys out by the time the movie released. Which is why none of the characters look like their actors and there's a bunch of seemingly random stuff not from the movie like Tim being an older kid, Muldoon's figure including a rocket launcher, there being two different T-Rexes, etc.

Because of the lead time to making a toy. By the time the movie is released and Hasbro get to see those background alien designs, its the time that they need to start working on the toys for the next movie.

Boba Fett though was intended to be a bigger character initially and appeared in the animated segment of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Behind the scenes information also had him as a Super Stormtrooper with white armor. His original toy in the vintage line was due largely because of the Holiday Special and they even planned to make his dragon that he road around on, only cancelling the idea when the Special tanked. There was a lot more going for Fett besides that he looked cool, he was hyped up to be a major baddie by Lucasfilm who only happened to later on have only a few lines and die. They also very nearly made figures of Chewbacca's family for similar reasons to Fett, that they were in the Holiday Special and were main characters.

Chronological Order is definitely better than airing order just for not splitting up some of the arcs but they fucked it up by just using the airing order and change what had to be changed. I remember the episode guides pointing things out like Ahsoka learning how to pilot over the course of some of the episodes that is apparent in production order, got broken in airing order and chronological order by adhering to strongly on airing order threw the idea out the window.

I would recommend you go on FUCKING REDDIT, I saw a nice discussion there once about episode placement, something you never see on 4chan. I also made this autistic chart for myself though I haven't checked it for all autistic details (since I don't know where to find a full list of all trivia) and I changed most of the later episodes around to make the final stretch of episodes get more and more serious instead of being interrupted by weird stuff.

It's older japanese stock. Sometimes they sell figures for way less. You can tell chinese bootlegs because they only produce very few. I think the chinese started making some around TFA with Vader Kylo Phasma Boba White Boba and a bunch of trooper variants.
After that I only saw the Hasbro First order Stormtrooper accessoires, TLJ Red Guards and Death Troopers. Everything else is genuine or Factory reject at worst.

Saw some rarer figures like Snowtroopers, General Hux, Wrath Vader and others from japan go for around 16$, free shipping. As a european where prices never are that low it's a good way to get some things cheap.

So i have a bunch of First Order guys that i got out of enthusiasm for TFA, a bit tired of them after the last (Jedi) film, even though i still enjoy how they look, instead i' find myself wanting to go back to the classics that i always loved.
How are Tarkin, Piett, AT-AT driver and Snowtrooper? Thinking of importing a couple of these from bbts while slowly army building Sandtroopers which are always available on my country.
Is the most recent BS Vader good or is it worth going with something like Mafex?

Piett looks good, don't have him yet.

AT-AT driver rocks. Not perfect, but the costume is good and the helmet is a nice shiny off-white. Snowtrooper sucks. Snowtrooper sucks a lot. That skirt makes him near impossible to pose right.

Yes, they're all good. The face printing has really stepped up it's game, and the troopers AT-AT pilot is good if you have Snowtroopers. They're all fun figures.

Skip the Mafex and go with the new Black Series one. It's got a better, more screen accurate sculpt.

Skip the BS Vader and get the Mafex.

It has actual red transparent lenses as opposed to cheap shit dull painted ones. And articulartion is great, ""movie accuracy"" isn't so great when you can only pull off one pose, might as well buy a statue if you only care about accuracy. And the Mafex has accessories unlike the BS.

I paid full price for the Black Series 40th Vader with the shitty cardboard stand (£50) from my local Forbidden Planet.
Mafex Vader cost me 4980 yen (£35~) shipped from Japan.
Tell me which one is the better deal?
I love how you retards are PRAISING the lack of articulation and accessories on the shittier figure.
Lets not even get into the issue with the Black Series helmet warping due to the shitty soft plastic Hasbro uses.

The only thing going for the Mafex is added articulation points, but are completely unnecessary, when the Black Series already does pretty much every pose you'll ever need him in. I don't agree with that assessment, the snowtrooper can't do every pose under the sun like some of the figures but it can do what I want and looks good whilst doing it.

You should get Tarkin just to see how far the figures have come. It's very impressive. Shame the arms can't reach the chin and touch them like Tarkin does, nor does it come with the pointy finger Tarkin does.

At-At driver is an underappreciated gem. It's a great figure but only works with other figures- I know we aren't getting a 6" at at cockpit etc. I'm glad I picked some up when they were cheap because my Hoth collection now looks great. You should try and track down Veers if you can to go with the Snowtrooper and At at driver.

Vader is personal preference. For me it's the BS.
The Mafex just has too many things wrong with it to justify that hefty price tag. But it's your money. I'd rather army build than have one so-so import figure.

I'm not sure if it was intentional on hasbro's part or not.

There's a shiny armour version and a matte armour version and they both have different mud paint on the skirts.

I'm sure you can find pictures elsewhere- I didn't realise until i started army building them that this was the case.

There's a guy on /toy/ who was trying to claim that Hasbro's Stormtroopers couldn't bend their elbows more than 90° because there weren't any photos, but anyone with a working brain could figure out that a double jointed elbow can get a greater range than that, especially with how the stormtrooper was sculpted.
Just because most people put their toys in "boring" poses to emulate real world poses but that doesn't mean it can't do more than what you see. The only times we usuallt see XTREME POSING is usually because weeaboos love making LOL SO RANDUM XD poses for their toys to try and be funny.

Most people who collect these types of toys, military ones, are only emulating what they see. In most movies, IRL, etc, you're not going to see the extreme posing you see in anime or manga, because it'd look really weird (also the fact that most manga/anime based IRL stuff you don't see extreme poses either).

Hence people being really pleased with their Black series figures because the sculpt is accurate to the movies and its posing abilities are accurate to the movies.
This is why you routinely see people saying that it doesn't matter if the poorer sculpted Mafex or Figuartst gets 5% more range of motion, because what you see in the movies doesn't need more of the sculpt being cut out to improve the range for the joints.
...or weirdass ugly joints by Yamaguchi.

Kotobukiya makes gorgeous Stormtroopers with swappable limbs so you can have perfectly sculpted, joint-free Stormtroopers if it activates your almonds that much. Also his ankles being gummy as hell like most recent BS figures combined with how top-heavy he is makes a lot of posing difficult without a stand.

In the end, he's fine for a bounty hunter line-up but I wouldn't expect to get a lot of good "out in the field" kind of poses or setups done.
