It's a cool build, I'll give Lego that. If I were so inclined and had the space I'd pick up multiple sets to make my own giant super castle. Other than that I don't care because Lego figures are too outdated for my tastes.

No, because the microfigs are so seriously out-of-scale with all the earlier LEGO accessories. It's kinda understandable why they did that- so the castle wouldn't be 2x the size. But simple things like goblets and swords, etc can no longer be held by the figs- they become furniture or display elements. They're not using micro blocks for the castle itself, so a lot of detail is lost.

why do lego keep churning out these huge sets?
I'm not saying they're bad, most of them are great in fact but there's barely any breathing room when so much expensive shit is dropping all the time

It's even more in the uk. I though it seemed OK value considering the level of detail, but no doubt much of its going to be separate sets and this is just the base model.

I think I'd rather just pick up a bunch of the older sets and work it out myself

You could fit most of the original sets together to make one giant huge castle (I can't find a picture but my spoiled-ass friend had one growing up) and while it certainly was grand it also looked like shit.
