Apparently, not many of you can even talk about OP's topic in question since none of you have had them regularly.
I really do wonder what went wrong because it wasn't always this bad. The quality of the toys is on a steady decline for over a decade now and I'm not be sure what could be blamed for that.
Globalization and, thus, a lesser need to put effort in it, or mini-maxing the toylines by giving less choice and more stylized figures that are pop!ular with the supposed target audience.
In any case, it doesn't seem like any of them are handpainted any longer, albeit I might be wrong on this one.
Ever since the segregation between male/general and female toys, the latter had more consistent quality overall, even if the toys aren't always the best. They have better lines and are the better choice because of that, at least as long as you want a good toy and not a cheap licensed knock-off.
It is really sad to see how things from the sideline 20 years ago are now too good to be mainliners. And the sideline toys nowadays seem to not even change, some simply stay the same for years or are somewhat retooled, but are really still the same shitty toys no one would ever want.
Even worse, Kinder's mascot toylines such as the Hippos are nowhere to be found anymore. Now, that doesn't need to be considered a bad thing, but Kinder Surprise Eggs have lost their identity and are more in line with the cheap knock-off brands that, for some parts, are even superior to them.
I really want to know how well they sell nowadays.
