>>7124090I was suitably impressed. He's basically a Leader class upscale of the original Unfortunately that includes the weapon ports, they're not 5mm anymore, and the headmaster port. I don't have any of the KBB upscale headmasters to test if they will fit the new head joint either or I would.
The only real engineering changes are the diecast in the upper torso and feet and they added a wrist hinge on the right(where the shield is), though I'm not sure what purpose it serves and they added a little flap that covers the hollow where he hand folds in for transformation on the left. Everything else is basically the same.
Deco wise, however, he is really gorgeous. The Hasbro one I always thought looked a right treat but didn't stand out. Ares is absolutely slathered in paint: every bit of the techno greebles and mech detail is picked out in paint. There's an undercoat of matte metallic sliver, with the raised details picked in a bright brassy gold, fire-engine red, or electric blue for some of the tubes and wires.
He's also got a second head which is basically just a version of DOTM Shockwave for the full homage that makes me hope against hope they do a proper purple sendup version. I'm a little peeved because the model shots and some of the earlier reviews showed him with a blue see-through rubber cable for the gun-arm, but mine came with a yellow one. A very minor nitpick.
So yeah, if you liked the mold, this is a Movie Masterpiece grade paintjob on leader-sized upscale. I payed about $40 shipped on ebay, I'm more than satisfied.
