Can't really explain why but it does. She was cool about it though, she doesn't bring it up anymore unless she's interested in getting something from the same line.
My wife loves toys, I got her back into them when we started dating. She has a few of her own, and actively buys herself more. She likes Barbie and American Girl dolls the most, but she has a few other items, including some imports related to things she likes (animal crossing, zootopia) and a lot BttF toys.
Friends already know about my collecting, and their opinions range from friendly teasing (calling them dolls, etc to try to get my goat) to shared excitement when they see something new on my shelf (from a friend who builds gunpla and has a girlfriend who collects toys), but all of them understand how hobby spending works (cars, firearms, board games, and warhammer are all popular among them, and those can all be pricy too) and no one is ever legitimately mocking it.
Coworkers only really know from the few I have on my desk, and what they can see in the background when I work from home and call into meetings. They remark on them, and I'm always a little self-conscious, but never any judgement on their end.
Family doesn't have much of an opinion, but they don't see them that often, we mostly travel and meet up at other locations.
