I think they can be a fun surprise, but I usually end up wanting the rest so it's annoying to get dupes. If there's a whole set I want I'll end up just buying a complete case off ebay which defeats the purpose of blind boxes. I'd probably buy more at random if there were people around me to trade with, though.

I honestly think something is wonky with figure distribution in boxes. Kid Robot and Funko generally do an alright job or mixing shit up in each case but Cryptozoic is terrible- three boxes of the Street Fighter Knockouts and one was heavy with Ryu's, the other Akuma and the third Ryu and Akuma. I don't mind dupes at all but when shits fucky like that I call bullshit.

Why would anyone want to pay that much for something you MIGHT want? If that's what gets you going, buy lottery tickets instead. Sure, you'll be disappointed a lot, but some day you might actually win some money.

With Blind boxes, you will be mostly disappointed, but sometimes you might get the exact little "cute novelty" that you wanted that you WILL be bored of one month later

Right now I've been buying some neat Transformers minifigs at the 99 cents store and some Invader Zim bobble-heads at Target both for 1 dollar each.

Still missing some that I want and at that price I'm fine with doubles.

I usually just google it. Not everything has codes. Now that I'm buying more and more types of blind bags I'm finding out that codes are actually rare.

but still like I said I always check online first to see if codes even exist.

Some blind bags aren't really blind, they have tiny numbers stamped on the packaging that differ based on what's inside. So with a little help from the internet you can get exactly what you want.

But like I said not everything has codes. Off the top of my head some of the coded blind bags I've bought recently are Justice League Mighty Minis, Halo and Tmnt Mega Construx, Transformers Kreos and Turbo changers.

I just got the codes for the new Mega Construx Breakout Beasts so now I just gotta find them at retail...

That said, these were on clearance for 4 bucks a pop, so I uh.. got all of them.

Used to be harmless, but is getting a bit out of control with how many toys are coming in a "blindbox" style packaging now and are reaching well above 15 dollars, which is just beyond ridiculous beyond that point.
I did collect some blindbox style toys for a while, really just the Funko Horror Classics and Monster High minis.
I was really good at never getting a double for the horror classics, and MH Minis had the code on the box so I found whatever ones I wanted and was done with it then.

Ghostbusters has always been classified as a comedy above any other genre. The only times it ever got "scary" were the librarian in the opening of the first film, and the random severed heads in the subway in the second.

Even Beetlejuice has only rare moments of being actually terrifying.

I think they're also stretching it with Clockwork Orange.

Used to be fun, but not now with a combination of chase figures and scalper assholes.
Example: Lego minifigs:
I would usually simply grope for a complete set, sometimes get a dupe and trade (or live with it).
Now; the standard is that every case has been opened and exactly one bag is missing. On eBay there are scalpers perpetually re-re-listing multiple chase figures at silly prices.
Easy conclusion to reach is simply that all the chase figs have been extracted by people with no interest in the actual item as a means of (paltry) financial gain.
End result of this combination is simply screwing over anyone with a genuine interest, and even removing any enjoyment / excitement that would otherwise be associated with the blind-bag / surprise element too.
