This has some interesting moral ramifications.
Out of your entire collection of figures, you must not only bestow sentience on a previously lifeless totem (which, regardless of how you treated it, could neither experience nor comprehend joy, pain, or higher emotions like pride, shame, or self-awareness)—you must also decide which toy is to be the ONLY one in your collection to receive the mixed blessing/burden of life.
Do you select your favorite toy, or the one most likely to lead a fulfilling life? Do you base that on how able-bodied it is, or how mentally stable it is? Do you let it know that, out of all the figures you could have selected, you chose it, or do you give it the false hope that there might be others like it out there? Further complicating your choice, does the Toy Fairy give you enough information to make an informed decision, or do you fly blind wondering how the rules work?
