It absolutely breaks my heart when I see Lego thrown into the trash. I picked this up and washed it carefully (though it was actually quite clean to begin with since it was tied into a bag). No real minifig stuff but a few fun pieces.

Although I've never seen Lego being thrown away... I have scored a ton of it for free recently. This woman was selling her house and cleaning out a ton of stuff including an incredible amount of sets that were built and just sitting on shelves. There were tons of the mini-architecture builds and a lot of city stuff. It was really mixed everything but two huge totes worth. (I'm the city builder and only build once it snows out here so I haven't been around but pop in from time to time.) Too much to do outdoors in the summer.

And this is my birthday haul. A lot of it is really just an assortment of tĥings on sale and clearance that my friends and I picked up. Nine sets in total, some of which I wouldn't have otherwise bought, but the price was right and I'm finally building up a sizable inventory of parts.

The Yellow Submarine and Vader Brickheadz snuck into that last pic, but they belong here. These are just assorted thins I've picked up at grocery stores and pharmacies over the last ten years, just things that have been on sale. In hindsight I'd probably only really have bought the Creator sets and Rey's Speeder. And that's my klocki inventory minus the pre-2006 stuff sitting at my mom's house.

Huh, just noticed that minifig accessoires like the Infinity stones, plumes or ribbons with those thin attachment rods fit perfectly in the "this will save us 1¢ for every 1.000.000 bricks produced" holes of plates.

We have a garbage room in the building for bigger trash. You don't throw away stuff like food in there, but you can put in furniture or old electronics or whatever else you want trashed. There was a big sack there with toys in it (though a lot was no-name China stuff that I left). The lego pictured is all I could find.

I read about a guy a few towns over who actually saw an old lady throwing away Lego at a garbage station, rushed over and stopped her and drove home with two giant clear totes full. People are absolutely insane sometimes, usually older people.

He asked her why she hadn't sold it or given it to charity and she said "She couldn't be bothered"

Hmm, I'll have to take a look and see. I'm general a bonkle MOC creator, but I have enough bricks to dabble in the finer side of Lego. Thanks for the tip though, I'll take a look.

Also, anyone seen pic related before? I was perusing a Lego Discovery Center yesterday to see if they had last year's Halloween set (they did), and saw this. Maybe it's just me, but it looked like the ugliest polybag set in a while.

I happily took whatever she was getting rid of. Mind you it was two huge totes full. This was at her house. She kept asking me. "Do you want these?" "How about this set?" I was like just throw it all in the totes!

Contacted her just last night and asked her if she ever comes across any more I'd be happy to take it off her hands and she said she might have some Lego train sets in the attic and would let me know once she gets up there. I did ask her why she didn't sell them and she said she couldn't be bothered. She bought the sets like to build as puzzles and once they were done she just set them on shelves. She couldn't fathom what a MOC was. She needs directions to build stuff I guess.

I do buy huge lots of Lego and usually sort through so much crap. Iv'e found Kinex and other offbrands but find everything from loose change to cuff links to even an engagement ring which I sold and used that to fund future purchases.

There are other pitfalls to buying used bricks though. You should always wash them... Who knows what snot nosed kid has played with them.

I've also found broken glass and other sharp objects mixed in like razor blades so just a heads up before anyone goes plunging their hands into used bricks.

Oh yeah I know. I rarely buy used stuff because it tends to be mostly huge piles of Basic bricks which I already have a shitload off, or as you say it can be chewed and dirty.

Saw a lady sell a big box recently and about half of it was Playmobile once you started looking through it.

Also very rarely minifigs in these huge lots. I guess maybe they break, or the kids keep them? Like the lot I found only had one cracked minifig torso and one head, but lots of acccessories and interesting bricks.

That AT-Hauler is one of the three possible gifts at TRU this week until the 4th. The other is an Arctic one (30360), and the Ninjago set that I grabbed because it was clearly the best of the lot. That little white dragon is surprisingly well articulated. You need to spend $30 to get one, but they otherwise retail for $4.94 CDN. I've been grabbing up polybags lately and I'd say the AT-Hauler is really terrible compared to something like the Guardians Ship or the Black Panther ship. The BP ship is actually a great buy if you want minifigure accessories because it uses 10 or 12 of those Star Lord blasters for detailing.

I'm Aussie and it seems that we aren't even getting the bricktober lego minifigs here this year, toys r us closed down a while back, but sadly lego hasn't created a neat bricktober deal with another corp.

On the topic of set deconstruction, inventory sorting, and general storage organization, I'm still on the hunt for a suitable plastic or wooden storage organiser. Something discounted, but reliable, with lots of little drawers and some big ones. People wouldn't really know but I actually get a lot of satisfaction from having a neatly organised collection. And doubly so with lego.

When I buy used stuff it's usually 80% Lego and I always ask if there are minifigs included. If there are I'm almost certain there is going to be more than just the "Basic Blocks" in the lot.

I am finding though that the newer sets hardly have any basic blocks and are mostly made of smaller pieces. (cheese slopes, tiles, etc.) I'm ok with that because years ago I would methodically buy 2-4 blue buckets of basic bricks each week at the local K-Mart with my buddy's employee discount. Or better yet if there was a sale on that bucket. I'd get them for like $15 a bucket. So I'll never be in short supply of the basic blocks. Now I buy all the lots with special pieces or visit the PAB wall and hope they have what I need. I have more than I think is possible to sort. I joke with my G/F and say if I die before you... You are going to give all this away aren't you.

But yea it is hit or miss with used lots. It sucks when I'm dealing with someone that thinks it's gold and wants top dollar and I'm like dude, there are rocks mixed in! I've walked away from many lots like that. Again, I've got more than I know what to do with at this point sorting wise plus a dedicated room for my builds.

Sure. I mean I only buy lots where I can recognize newer legos. Most stuff you see here in Europe is hand-me down Lego from the 80s and 90s, that's what I call the "basic" stuff. Only basic bricks in the old primary colors. It's rare to find lots with exclusively new pieces here IMO.

Ahh I see. Here in the states people are fucking lazy and just want instant gratification. They buy something and get tired of it and either A: Hoard it or B: get rid of it for cheap.

I can't tell you how many single mom's I've met in a parking lot selling their kids toys because the kid wants the latest video game and the only way mom can afford it is to sell some unplayed with discarded toys.

I've got all my stuff from the 80's and 90's still and am very interested in the newer colors and redoing my older buildings in more detail now. This winter should be fun with what I've collected this year.

Yeah I get that and it does happen here sometimes too, but less often. When I go to a car boot sale there's usually something like 5-10 different people selling Lego lots, and most will just be stuff I already have. I'm mostly interested in buying cheap large lots of unusual pieces to build with, as you said. or stuff that has a lot of recognizable pieces in it like Castle and Space. Or lots of minifigs. Doesn't happen that often tho. Out of those 5-10 lots sometimes 1-2 feel worth looking into. I leave the rest for the kids who can have fun with it, parents always buy big lots anyway.

As for minifigs. I am not in a short supply of those. The last lot I got had about 75-100 complete with accessories. Town people are always good to have along with police and fire and even construction. Most of the Ninja stuff will go on the second floor of my oriental restaurant. It's a sort of karate studio. What do you build?

It's still a girls' theme. I'd also argue that several of the more recent Disney sets are fine. Elsa's Market Adventure, Cinderella's Enchanted Evening, and both Moana sets have very usable parts and fantasy elements. Rapunzel's Traveling Caravan is high tier, so comparing any other current set to it isn't very fair.

I had this set when it came out many years ago, but my mom dismantled it one day when she went around cleaning the house since I had left it in the living room. It was a really great set especially for the price but I never rebuilt it for some reason.

Sounds like me. It's been about 10 years since I've been seriously into Lego, but I've started to get back into it as soon as I heard about the new Harry Potter sets. I should have grown out of it too, but for some reason it's stuck with me all this time. I'm seriously nostalgic for it so I was ecstatic when I heard that the theme has been revived.
I'm on the fence though. I mean as badly as I want the new HP sets, I'm not sure if I can justify spending several hundred dollars on Lego at my age even though I wouldn't miss the money. But I'm thinking about getting either all the regular minifig scale sets or just getting the microscale Hogwarts Castle. Which should I do?

Those chain box stores are the source of many great finds. They sometimes keep retired items on the shelves longing than other stores, and they have great sales/clearance deals. I figure no one buys their LEGO at Chapters when a Toys r Us and Wal Mart are in the same mall.

Well, at least the faces seem to be properly adapted to the lego format. What I'm not so sure about is the character's proportions, those are important from a gameplay standpoint.
I guess I'll have to see how they adapt the bigger characters. Lego will most likely do an official announcement at the next blizzcon.

Alright here we go. I don't have a youtube channel so you'll have to imagine I'm narrating this with a knockoff gopro strapped to my head

Opening up the "plants and animals" drawer, we see the plants on the left and the animals on the right.

Plant bags include "palm leaves" (I have some preassembled palm tops but I keep most of the palm tree/torch pieces in a separate small bag), "Old-style trees", "Miscellaneous plant stuff", and "Fruits and flowers".

Fruits and flowers includes new-style flower studs, 2x2 and 3x3 flower bricks, large flowers, old-style flowers, apples, cherries, stalks, vines, bunches, bananas, carrots, and new-style flowers. I keep the flowers on sprues in a small PAB cup to keep them from accidentally getting bent and separating.

Miscellaneous bag includes Feed Me Seymours, big vines, big seaweeds, wide three-leaf studs, Army Men baseplate lilypads, Duplo tree trunks, broad leaf with studs pieces, grass/flower stalks, pointy three-leaf studs, and bushes.

Moving onto the animal side, large bags include horsies, and large marine/freshwater life with a sub-bag of smaller critters.

Bigfigs are sorted, as are dinosaurs and dragons.

And last is the smaller animals and accessories. Heed this advice to any younger fans of Lego. Never sell your brick! You'll end up regretting it and end up buying it all over again. I'm lucky that I still have everything from the first sets from the 70's (Way before minifigs) and my classic space sets. (Boxes and all.)

I feel conflicted about buying out stock - a few days ago I bought a large amount of LEGO Dimensions Fantastic Beasts Story Pack - 71253 it was on clearance at a retailer, 52% off - later that night I did feel bad for a bit as the thought came to me that maybe some kid out there wasn't able to finally get one of those sets, a kid who had been waiting for ages who's parents wouldn't pay for the usual set price. This is my second iron skull sub set - the first did not come with any minifigs. I'm stoked to get this set at this ridiculous price - I'm not a big superhero person but I love the look of ironman's armour in this, and same with the red guy.

The book store that I go to has a huge stock of those Creative Supplement Bright boxes permanently marked down to $20 from $24.99, because I think they're retired. When I get paid at the end of the month I'm going to buy one and the Modular Modern Home, because that's also marked down. Maybe the Creator Daredevil Stunt Plane, too. And then cash in my TRU gift card for something that costs at least $10.

I hope I didn't annoy anyone - I actually only have one real friend to talk to these days, and the last few days I've had no-one to talk to, so I've been a bit insistent in /lg/ - stimulus is good. Not saying that to make a sob story, just saying that I am not here to rustle anyone's feathers.
About the spider minifig, two weeks ago the thought popped into my head that the spider minifig must just get picked up so damn quickly and must be incredibly difficult to find in stores because:

1. It's the easiest minifigure to "feel" out.
2. It's a really great design with a unique piece.

I'm sorry to hear that the spider fig has eluded you so far anon. Do you have an ebay account? I recommend checking out listings there, you could spot a bargain. You gotta get that spoopy klocki :D

Oh man I am so jealous of all those gift cards and gifts. That's amazing. Also when it comes to superhero stuff, you can always consider purchasing a set that has a minifig which sells for a decent amount, and you can then essentially purchase the set for the bricks, then sell the minifig, not a bad idea if that's waht has to happen.

Also if you have discord you should add me, Rex#5014 - I enjoy chatting with you and things like how you've got a little scene set-up with that new neat set. I'd love to see a picture if it's not a nuisance.

And holy crap that sounds so good - what an amazing month for klocki for you - those bright boxes seem great, so many pieces, and the modular modern home is a solid set for getting the house mocc'ing adventure going.

I've really been struggling with achieving anything close to the mocs that anons like you post here - do you guys just have the ability to pick up bricks and make it all happen or is there planning and brainstorming involved?

I honestly just slapped that thing together in like two hours without any pre-planning.

I mostly start with a completely barebones "skeleton" of the model (in this case just putting the joints into a row with the arms added and the head being nothing more than two plates with a hinge) to get an overall idea and then add the other bricks to build around it.
After being mostly satisfied with the overall appearance I check what's left and try to use those parts as substitute for bricks that could be used somewhere else to flesh out the model even more.

I've been having to deal with some things myself that I'd rather not get into -- health related. LEGO has been a bit of an escape from thinking about all of it. I do have some superhero LEGO, but I try not to get licensed stuff unless it's super cheap. Like, I might pick up a second Battle of Atlantis on clearance for the sand green pieces, Aquaman's trident and hair piece, another Parademon, etc., and I have bought a few LEGO Batman movie minifigs, because Series 1 is on clearance and characters like King Tut, Mime, March Harriet, and others have fun parts. I like the 50s-70s Batman stories a lot, while others prefer the more We Live in a Society tone of later stuff. So seeing some goofy villains and things like Vacation Batman is great.

Here is a figure I made: General Spoopy. I took my spare Garmadon Shark General 1 figure, added my only pumpkin head from the Green Goblin vs Spider-Man Mighty Micros I got a couple years back, and then threw on the Parademon wings. He also looks great with Aquaman's trident and Mime's mohawk, but that's a bit extreme. That's the extent of my LEGO spoop outside of one skelly I have that came with the Master Falls Ninjago set.

I don't have discord, and I've never done online shopping either. I'm rather archaic, haha. I will take a pic of the houseboat sometime, because it looks cool. I might keep the base design, but colour swap it some day to include in a MoC. I'm going to scrap it tomorrow and probably do the main build of the set.

I just wanna say thank you for the good run. Lego was enjoyable, but I am moving on to scale models now.

I won't sell of my lego trains as those are still relevant, but my desire to create a Lego model railroad has diminished. I'm selling all of my City shit and probably all the other random stuff, excluding the Movie sets I have.

You guys have any pointers? I've sold one set already and I feel like I fucked up a bit. I'm putting all of the mini's in their own individual bags to keep the prints from getting scratched.

Not to make you guys feel bad, but I got like 4. It's going to get tougher as time goes on. I'd recommend looking up on the top shelves for sealed boxes when in walmart. The other pro tip is to check supermarkets, drug stores, and book shops. Even novelty shoppes might end up with a box that nobody has bothered to check.

It's in rogue one briefly based on art created for return of the Jedi. I like it because I prefer buildings and bad guys but there's never been a decent OT star destroyer with a cool interior and the death star set is just way too massive. It's everything I want out of Lego and star wars at this point. It's barely in the movies and is ripe for imagination. Just looks awesome to me, and will be great to mod up with further details.

That's how I feel. Garmadon's Volcano Lair is only $49.99 but is basically the same thing: a black volcanic lair. The only thing that distinguishes Vader's Castle is some of the printed pieces. The TIE Advanced they include is kind of dinky. They should've just made a full scale detailed TIE, or a better detailed version of that room with the bacta tank that sustains him when he's out of his armour, as seen in Rogue One, if they wanted to scratch that Vader itch. The set doesn't even include Vaneé, the attendant from Rogue One, nor does it have Krennic. Instead, there's an unnecessary blue striped Stormtrooper variant, two Royal guards (appropriate), and two Vaders (one costumed, one battle damaged). The package and front of the build look impressive, but it's otherwise crap.

Been thru some hardships myself so I empathise with you and I do understand the aspect of lego being an escape from that sort of thing - I find it genuinely beneficial in terms of alleviating rumination, not that I suffer from that much anymore, but it's a neat way that lego is useful, or can be useful.

And yeah I am pretty much the same as you when it comes to superhero licensed lego stuff.
I like General Spoop a lot haha, that pumpkin head is great and the wings + fire-breathing fish actually have a neat aesthetic imo.

I almost bought garmadons lair several times but the slight goofiness and lack of anything else that I own going with it stopped me. It's a great set.

I own very little Lego outside of a handful of very focused collections, and none of it is black. The only star wars items I have are a couple of EU things that I've modded.

I do plan on modding the Vader set but with parts bought off of bricklink.

This looks good overall but I have some complaints.
First of all, for being a headquarters/base, I wish there were more livable accommodations, like maybe a bunker room for Vader's troops or a mess hall. Maybe an ancient sith library would be cool too since lore-wise, the building was a sith temple in the past. Instead, the rooms we get are quite small and not very detailed. But it seems most of the pieces in this build went into accommodating the unique triangle shape so I understand.
Now the un-defendable problem is that there's no Krennic or Vanee minifigs to re-enact the scenes from RO. We have

On the actual physical instructions I can clearly see the brown bricks, and that tehy don't have holes, I can clearly see the black-fine outlines on the bricks, as they are illustrated like that in the pages.

I purchased the set, sans minifigs, because of the price per piece and because it's going to be useful for my cyberpunk-ish moc.

I can explain why a set like this was made - because even though it was a middle of the road sitcom, about unrealistic nerds, it was a middle of the road sitcom about unrealistic nerds that had 10,000 or more viewers who were both savvy, motivated, and keen to make an official lego set of that show a real thing.

Furthermore, from a financial aspect, I do believe TLG considered it a sound investment.

It's a terrible decision by TLG. It shows, to me, that TLG believes their customers are all dumb cunts who need Daddy Lego to make them aware about how women have been important within the realm of science. TLG basically assuming that their customers are intellectually stunted, bitter and ignorant, or just plain fucked in the head, that they do not and can not understand or accept that women have made important scientific discoveries and that that women have contributed important effort, hours, and talent into the realm of science.

Nothing special there, it's a couple CFLs in cheap flexible standing lamps. For shooting I aim them at the walls so it's all indirect lighting. I was going to set up something according to LQ's lighting howtos but it'd take effort

They're really expensive to produce. Lego has publicly announced that their profit margin on a set is 25.64%. And stores do a smaller mark-up on Lego than other toys.

Lego was losing money and almost went bankrupt 15 years ago.

Most toys are just trash now. You get what you pay for.

After having a not so great last quarter report, LEGO is riding their chips on volume sales at a rather low margin. Even though some of the star wars shit is dismal, on the whole, the quality of the bricks (barring Chingchong CMF shit) is top tier. Aside from SW, city and some of the other stuff is killing it.

My parents got back today from overseas, they went to London, Paris, etc. When they were in London were on one of those kinda tourist busses that goes to different stops - the bus info didn't mention it but it actually stopped pretty much outside the Leicester Square Lego Store - my mum knows I like lego and so she and Dad hopped off and went in - they said they had a great time at the store, people were friendly and the displays and everything were amazing. I actually spoke to them on the phone the day after they went to the store - I completely forgot to even mention to them about the exclusive minifigs and such, and I thought about telling them but then realized I didn't want to push my agenda on them as they are on holiday. The long story short tho is mum had an inkling about exclusive stuff like that, and a lego store employee confirmed it, and so she actually picked up Lego 40220 and Lego 40308 - the London Double Decker Red Bus and the Leceister Square minifig. Which I'm stoked about :D

Checking bricklink the torso alone is $1.20 with only 4 available. It isn't often but sometimes buying direct from Lego is the cheap alternative. Problem is they rarely have exclusive parts available for bulk individual purchase. This one is a nice surprise, though I'm not sure what I'll do with a bunch of Union Jack torsos.
