What Revoltechs are doing isn't really the path of advancement the industry is moving toward.
We're not moving toward more articulation (see Toy Biz MLs using upwards of 50poa in the mid 00s), but rather, are pushing toward smarter uses of joints, especially since aesthetics is a very important part of the collectors hobby.
Hence the growing popularity of dolls in 1:12 scale, but also the growing range of 1:18 figures.
You're also seeing the use of spread printing, in both ink and 3d plastics to aid in that advancement, with rapid prototyping and cheaper paint applications.
