If you notice, megs, soundwave, and optimus all have very similar proportioned bot modes, and soundwave shares a lot of engineering with optimus. Megs follows similar principles.
Odds are, hasbro now has software that lets them estimate part cost, labor costs, etc exactly and this is why there's so much shared engineering. I bet op, megs, soundwave, and inner bot magnus all take about the same time to assemble, and their similar parts mean less a chance a worker would assemble it wrong.
Soundwave can probably have a cassette player mode, just not a classic g1 style. His hip pops and folds out, so something more creative can probably be done
