How do you feel about the "buy sets for the minifigures" versus the "buy sets for the pieces in general" attitudes? Do you have a preference?

Obviously buying only unique parts on BL or similar doesn't really count in this case.

Both are flawed, but if you're getting it for the pieces it's closer to the set's (and Lego's) original intent. Buying just for rare figures is just Lego being slightly scummy by putting the "best" figures in big sets. They are enabled by fans that will buy any variation of Super-girl or whoever and don't care the price.

There's some Spider-Man stuff coming that looks like it's part of the Juniors line. Last thread had pics of it, plus that Spider-Mech vs. Venom Mech set. Aside from that we only know three of the LEGO Movie 2 sets, there will be a Year of the Pig brickbuilt figure, the Forma line, and new collectible minifigs for the Movie. Some site had Star Wars leaks -- apparently they're doing some classic stuff for 20 years of having the license, but I've seen that there will a droid gunship, AT-AP, "classic" Microfighters, another clone battle pack, and an elite praetorian guard battle pack (hopefully, because they were the coolest part in TLJ).

According to two different rumour sites there's going to be a focus on police and fire for City next year, with the new police sub-theme being "sky police." For Ninjago there's going to be a new Fire Temple, a Monastery of Spinjitzu, a Golden Dragon, and more spinners, among some smaller vehicles and a mech. So far Creator has a Sunset Track Racer, Riverside Boathouse, and a Shuttle Transporter set titles revealed. For DC we already have seen the Batman Mech vs Poison Ivy, but there's some kind of aquatic vehicle coming for Batman, and people are expecting sets based on Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. For Disney there's Alladin and Jasmine's Palace, and several other sets that aren't known. For Friends, the main characters are receiving small "Heart Box" sets.

Adding to Star Wars there will be a set for the new Resistance show that features a red TIE pilot. Two of the Microfighters will be Darth Maul and Anakin with a Sith Infiltrator and N-1 Starfighter respectively, keeping in line with the 20th anniversary of the license and Episode I, and a rumoured Dewback vs. Droid Escape Pod. There's to be a Canto Bight set, and an Anakin podracer. So kids can play with things from the best films. Three polybags include: Snowspeeder, N-1 Starfighter, and Anakin's Podracer.

Expect Captain Marvel for Marvel.

There is, but I couldn't get a good picture of it. There's a little kitchen with a replaceable gas canister and a little seating area that I'll definitely rework. I really wanted it to at least look like it could fold out into a bed.

This one had all the individual parts sorted into boxes with a number on the box indicating how many you were to take. The lady gave me a plastic bag and you were expected to put the parts in yourself, and then either take a photocopy of the instructions, or snap a pic of the instructions in colour that were taped to a table. There were like two kids there and plenty of parts left, but I only took enough to make one because I already felt awkward enough. The bookstore was crowded tho. The TRU is having another one at the end of the month to make the Ford Anglia from Harry Potter, and I might get it just because there are some cool parts.

LEGO's own video talks about exceptions, and the set doesn't depict violence directly. The wolf is chasing granny -- maybe they're playing tag. It would be a different thing entirely if the set depicted the wolf literally cutting her open.

It doesn't feature any real weapons and can be considered fantasy setting.

Reposting my devilishness

I bought a bunch of lepin sets for a total of $300 then places some BL orders totaling $38 on parts to replace the lepin parts with visible studs with LEGO parts making it seem all LEGO including racing authentic legobbaseplates in. Took them to my local Bricks and Minifigures store and they did their not so thorough research on it and gave me a trade value of $1,200. Made out with a lot of Minifigures, Viking Fortress, Downtown Diner, Old Fishing Store, LEGO 2012 gunship, cafe corner, and tower of ortthac. Tbh they probably only lost $250 worth of profit since they buy things at 40 % their worth

Ok meme-wolf is fairly cool, and I'm jazzed about a lil red, since I missed out on the Granny's visitor cmf. That giant is straight tits though, will be getting him.

I've also broken my 5yr hiatus from cracklink, and got a pretty spiffy deal for some gen2 Blacktron figs that I just can't wait to get my hands on. This, unfortunately, also means I'll be shopping hardcore for the newer BT torsos and make a good and proper force for my other ended hiatus back into Brikwars.

Now the shitty stuff: I've still got a large collection stuck in the dark-cold stasis of storage back in California. I have a sizeable chunk of forest fire anon (get at me bro) smoke damaged stock also in California, and the pitiful "new" collection of stuff I've aquired during this transition, which I had asked about mech building (Jango Sw, some yellow and blue jet 3in1, and a couple fire/police sets) which I'm all trying to get into one location now that stability has returned somewhat. Add to that the bean there donut that en route, and the bricklink orders, and I'm looking at a fairly comfy winter if I can get it all together. Wish me luck.

Also: where the hell are the leaks for '19 at? Seems that this time last year we at least knew about spring stuff. What gives?

It's an okay game that gets too much shit because it's a Blizzard game and thus, it's more popular than some other lesser known arena FPS that is totally superior to it in every way.
Doesn't help that they shill it too much on the esports angle.
It's not even a "politiccally correct" game, the portrayal of their characters is way too stereotypical to be considered progressive in any way, if anything they go to great lenghts to stay in a sweet spot where nobody in any side of the spectrum gets considerably offended.

It's a decent game but it's casual Tumblr "Diverse" TF2 for babies who never played TF2 but like Memes.
It's dying pretty fast but they went down the eSports meme so it's relevant for now but that's ironically killing it as well.
Throw in that the Story is a complete mess of actual virtue signalling, retconning constantly and that they legit catered to casual baby fans and it's just a total mess.

It's only really some of the character designs that are good now and i'm excited for the Figma Reaper. Hope they do Soldier and a Nendo Torb.

Yeah, if I go into the nearby bigger suburbs all I see are HP, Unikitty and some S18 stuff.

My shopping center is small and out of the way, though. And there's others like it. Some stores just don't have any good movement on the "Generic" CMF series it seems.

I wasn't going to get him but decided to go ahead and I'm really glad I did. Number one, that bread piece was pretty expensive on cracklink before this cmf came out. Two, the bulldog is cute as heck. Three, both the torso and the arms are really nice for making unique figs. Also a beret.

There are some nice Castle related elements that need a new theme from time to time to keep out on the market, otherwise second hand prices would be ridiculous. I'm sure there are kids coming up, too, who haven't known the joys of a proper castle theme outside of Nexo Knights with its gaudy colours and translucent pieces -- same goes for Elves.

I think the "straight" historical castle stuff is a hard sell these days. A lot of people expect fantasy elements to it, but after the big contrversy with the Fantasy Castle era in 2006 or so I'm not sure if Lego will ever go back in that direction again. Or just rely on various licensed themes to carry the general idea.

The complaints from soccer moms and Lego "traditionalists" that a fantasy theme with animated undead, trolls and other "scary" things had no place among a "traditional" theme like Castle. Regardless of who complained about what I think the bigger answer is sales. If fantasy did well, it would have lasted longer. Nexo Knights was the last ditch effort to force castle theme on modern kids. The TV show and app, relatable characters and techpunk, vehicle sets and combining, none of it was able to push the theme past the projected 3 years.

At this point my last hope is lord of the rings/hobbit. I don't think lego will go for another big bang or in house castle theme. Licensed themes get marked up to pay for the license, but don't really require much marketing to sell themselves even at higher price per part. I know someone is working on a hobbit series, but I don't know how kid friendly it will be or how interested kids will ever be in fantasy.

Eh this applies to some themes, but not others. Not every theme is made to keep going for a long time, and fantasy is just a standard subtheme of castle. By your logic, we'd have to say most castle themes did poorly because they were all cycled out in only a few years.
Nexo Knights was a flop though, that's true.
I was wondering if they would adapt the new lotr tv show but then I heard it was going for a more edgy vibe, and it will probably ape GoT pretty hard. I guess fantasy is more for adult nerds now rather than children.

Each iteration of castle was a new take, but I think they at least tried to reach modern kids that don't respond to the old grey panel castles. Maybe the problem isn't fantasy/castle specific, but if you look at what they make and what sells, boys want vehicles and locations/buildings are targeted at girls. That's why elves was so great and even disney has some good castles, but nexo knights got a castle that shot a car out and the tower was a rocketship.

And? Not every theme is ninjago, and back when fantasy era was kicking, ninjago and huge themes like that didn't exist beyond bonkle.
I agree that boys want vehicles and probably aren't all that interested in castle anymore. But fantasy era ended nearly a decade ago. There's no reason to think it didn't sell well back then.

I blame most of nexo failing on competing with ninjago and lego batman movies. The TV show wasn't anything new and the marketing was prioritized for the movie themes.

The colors were pretty bad and certain sets were just really bland, but I didn't think it was much more egregious than some of the worse ninjago and chima waves. The real crime was just not being able to out shadow ninjago movie sets which seem to be regarded very highly in /lg/.

But why do you assume this? Themes are cycled out regularly. By your logic castle has been mostly a failure because each of it's subthemes only lasted a couple years on average, and yet the theme as a whole lasted for decades.

I think a big reason for ninjago's success is how varied it can be. Due to the weirdness of the setting, you can have the villains be a huge, varied mixture from snake men to sky pirates. I think it's really appealing to kids for that reason.

You do realize that there was a seven year long gap between the 99 Castle theme and the 2006 theme, right? Then another theme in 2010 and then Nexo in 2016. If we do get another Castle theme it won't be for another two years minimum, if not another 4-5. Calm your tits. And if you want to get technical they also have KK and Vikings around 05 and 07 too. They've been oversaturated in Castle themes for the last ten years.

NASA doesn't charge very much in licensing fees compared to other well-known organizations, so Lego has an added incentive to greenlight NASA projects, as they know those projects will be more profitable than a set with identical pieces tied to another license holder.

That's true, though my one issue with this is that he can't raise his legs that high, so no aggressive spider pose for him.
On the other hand said limit also prevents him from collapsing under his weight.

You can use bricklink. I'm sure there's better out there, but this is easy. Go to the advanced search and select parts in the second drop down, and the year you want in the third drop down. You could also pick sets instead of parts if you want to see that.

My other idea would be to assume basic parts, but check the rest on bricklink. Most parts have a years released.

This antenna (that's still in production) was released in 1979 for example.

That's way too small. The scale I'm looking for is similar in size to pic related. I just have no idea what to do for the handles, since the tooth piece doesn't exist in light bley. This accessory isn't meant to scale with minifigs.

I tried the other Death Eater mask as well, looked weirder.

The problem is that most of the heads with a white face have very lippy lips - they're more obviously facepaint than mask.

Still trying to find legs with kneepads for Skitter, but most of them are too armour-y, and as soon as the new scarf piece comes in black I can add Imp.

That would be really nice, but the increase in price would make it cross the line of 'too expensive for one car' i guess. The Ford Raptor/Model A set and Camaro sets kind of had that now that i think of it.
The model A and 1969 Z28 could change out engines sticking out of the hood and had some tools and an engine lift and stuff. It was neat, but more playset centred. I would like if they went slightly more in the creator direction where you could really put on different terrain setups on the same base car. (off-road, drag, street)

Life on mars dude again. Today I found out what differentiates "Trans-neon" colors from normal transparent ones. Trans neon ones are UV reactive! Garbage quality photos as always but here's a mech on one of the biodium veins I'm working on. Might actually display them like this once I'm "done" with everything. And who knows, might even take pics with an actual camera then too.

Something interesting here is that all the pieces that make up the set (other than the neon elements) are normal orange, yet some pieces are darkened while others are brightened by the blacklight.
