It really is bizarre to consider Hasbro owns the rights to the property but not the characters. That kind of thing has always thrown me for a loop. That aside, where do you think the go bots would be if hasbro had the rights to the cast? Part of me likes to insert them in G1 canon, and have them assume an almost junkion esc role of "off world cybertronian colonists". Somewhat related however, is the rocklord/gobots movie any good? It seems extremely cheesy and goofy in comparison to the 87 Transformers film.

Yeah my headcanon has always been that Gobots were some long lost cybertronian colony (since they are technically cyborgs, maybe they intermingled with some organic race) and they are so far disconnected from cybertron that they never were influenced by the Autobot Decepticon wars.

This type of stuff happens surprisingly often; a company will buyout another and assume they own the rights to something the company they owned produced, only to find out they didn’t after all or it wasn’t as cut and dried. Todd McFarlane bought companies for the rights to MiracleMan, only to find out the company he bought technically never owned that character. The whole situation with gobots is way more clear once the name Bandai comes into play, and how significant that is

No. It's really obviously intended to be maybe five-part TV story that they cut together and got some celebrity guest voices into in an attempt to compete with Transformers one more time.

The actual Challenge of the Gobots TV series is much better than it's reputation tho.

Yeah that's exactly the kind of thing I always imagined. Especially when you consider the Canon of G1. It's definitely more plausible than the Hasbro Shared Universe. Let's hope Scioli can stitch them into the mainline canon.

I actually liked some of these play school gobots. I remember the pterodactyl that combined with a truck robot to form a jet pack and I remember the gorilla from that line too.

The Cy-Kill faces included with the new Bike Robo are technically "unofficial gift items" given out as bonuses in a separate bag, not officially a part of the package itself. There's no way in fuck Hasbro/HB/WB/whoever will let it happen without some massive money involved and even now they're probably hoping to dodge a lawsuit threat over it.

It's OK. It's as good as the Gobots cartoon series. If you enjoyed the Gobots cartoon than you'll probably like it.

It was done that way so that they could show it as a 5 separate episodes on TV later on for a proposed Rock Lord series that never happened. Hasbro did the same thing with the GIJOE movie. It was purposely broken into 5 22 minute chapters so it could be shown later on TV. Unfortunately for Hasbro/Sunbrow, the Transformers Movie did so bad that the GIJOE movie went straight to TV.

This reeks of you beign a kiddie who wan't even around when these things came out and thus have no perspective. The Machine Robo anime didn't fucking exist when they made Go-Bots. Golion would be irrelevant if not for Voltron. Robotech was a respectable adaptation of Macross, regardless of what meddling Harmony Gold has done since. These properties would have no relevance in the west if not for those adaptations. There were no fucking online subs in the 80's.

Basically in 1995 CPM was looking for something to release under their new label and wanted to license Dancouga.
Somehow no one at CPM realised that by doing so they agreed on a package deal that included the first 15 episodes of Machine Robo Revenge of Cronos and only found out once the tapes arrived at their office.
Despite the company not having any interest in the series, their founder John O'Donnell decided to release it anyway since they already had the tapes afterall.
In the early 2000s they even re-released those episodes on DVD with this also being the first time that episode 11-15 were released subbed at all.

The show was so-so but not awful. And I remember most people still liking Turbo most of the time.

I just never got why some of the vehicles were weird future-ey space vehicles, and some were perfect earth vehicles.

Cronos is all style over substance which isn't all that much fun, but at least Gobots' look matches the writing. My expectations for Challenge were significantly lower which is probably why I ended up liking it so much.

Think I still have the Go Bots mini-comic that might've come in a cereal box. The good guys were all on a space shuttle mission together and got drawn into the Go Bots conflict. I watched the cartoon some but even back then, there was this kind of unspoken acknowledgement that Transformers were superior. But I do remember one of the cooler kids in second grade had a Cy-Kill figure and nobody minded, he just joined forces with the Decepticons.
