would you still rather buy that 90 dollar devy for your kid than the G1 if the G1 was only priced 57 bucks? That's a better comparison.
and that's if you don't even adjust for inflation on CW devy, which adds another 5 bucks or so.
And no, I don't think the primary audience are parents who want to give their kids something they had growing up. Most kids who grew up with G1 are pushing 40. Their kids are in highschool already.
This is for those who never got them when they were kids, an now the economy is finally doing good enough that people are blowing their wads on crap they don't need.
