its for the next BOTM Kickstarter for 2019 Beasts of the Mesozoic:series 2 Ceratopsians.

-Estimated for a Spring 2019 launch
-The line will focus on 1/18th scale Centrosauruines as well as some 1/6th scale Protoceratopsians

-First three unlockables: Diabloceratops eatoni, Psittacosaurus mongoliensis, and Protoceratops andrewsi

-Due to the size and variety of the figures, bases will be omitted to help keep prices down

-One 'bonus' item stretch goal- 'Velcoiraptor vs.Protoceratops' 2-pack
-Kickstarter exclusive will be 'Monoclonius crassus' (juvenile Centrosaurus) color homage to the Tyco Dino Riders toy

I bought every single Raptor and accessory pack from the other Kickstarter except the build your own ones. I still have everything boxed up and unopened because I lost interest in before they showed up on my door.

I might do the same for these guys and buy everything in hopes that I'll eventually care some year.

I cant decide which of these I'm going to army build into a herd. My favorite comic of all time is Xenozoic tales so part of me wants to do the Schultz inspired Xenoceratops and grab 3 or 4 of them.. but Pachyrhino is easily my favorite ceratopsian ever since the amazing and inaccurate dino rider of my childhood. But both the styraco and monoclonius have great paint concept and will be cheaper. Ideally I want to get 3, 2, 1 and 1 but deciding is going to be a bitch.

The raptors just aren't that great and never were. The hype of tons of articulated dinosaurs was greatly reduced by the fact that for all their different parts most of them look very, very similar. A lot of the paint jobs are bland or out of place and that's even before getting to the execution of them which was not as good as the prototypes. Accessory packs and hatchlings are probably the best thing about them because despite being expensive and not painted as well as the raptors a lot of display options and environment bits are always fun to have, and adding variety to the dinosaur sizes and shapes available was crucial to not being boring.

But at the end of the day they are just too big, this is their greatest flaw. Scaled dinosaurs are what people want and this was the wrong scale to choose, people were saying it from before the Kickstarter even launched. 1/6 to go with your 1/6 figures.. great. Because I really want to pose plastic raptors with Iron man and Star Wars figures. We STILL don't have any 1/6th Jurassic Park figures, and the amount of figures you could even find that might work with Raptors in a display and not look like anything other than a meme you could count on one hand and have fingers left over. So all your left with is monster sized raptor figures for 1/12 figures which is fine, I guess, but even these are basically limited to mythic legion compatibility. Then hardly any other dinosaurs will ever be made to match this scale because they're too big. Oo ahh we'll get a protoceratops. Who cares. Should have gone with 1/12 and 1/18 from the start.

unfortunatly due to the sculpt and the feathers concept, articulation seemed a lot more limited than expected there is no wrist articulation, the wings barely move 90 degrees, and head articulation is limited as well. but what would you propose be done besides the scale to 1:18 or 1:12 scale?

Articulation was not a complaint of mine with the raptors, although overall I probably would have preferred if Silva went with his stylized dinosaurs for a toyline instead of realism. I have some resin raptors and oviraptors from him and even with the fragility of the pieces they have so much more character and playability than the BOTM raptors.

But like I said, the problems I consider with this line are as follows:
1. Scale- too big, see above post

2. Items available/species selection- too many too similar items.
He tooled a TON of parts for this line, and I get it, when else would anyone have the opportunity to make THIS many species of raptor.. but who wants that many similar things, realistically? They are VERY similar and even the small creatures chosen for the accessory packs have the same silhouettes when they could have been wildly different creatures to add some flair. As it is just them being smaller makes them some of the most exciting bits of the line in contrast to dozens of samey raptors.
I would have cut the raptors by half and used some of the tooling for alternative dinosaurs, like getting the protoceratops and psittacosaurus and a few other similar Dino's out then. 2 years later use a little of money for repaints and retools if there's still demand for more/new raptors. Variety is important in any toyline, and with dinosaurs half the appeal is all the different unique species interacting.
It's worth noting that things are already better for the ceratopsian series, with multiple sizes, noticably different head crests and horns, and some species that are so different looking that most people wouldn't even realize they were ceratopsians.

3. Paint- this is the one area of actual production where things failed, feathers are hard to do and while some of the raptors look pretty good a lot of them miss the mark.

Hey is there any way I could commission someone to make a 1:18 scale Spino based on this by chance? I know it sounds far fetched to even ask but anybody with that level of talent like Dave Silva that could make action figures like that but at request/commission?

Gonna have to respectfully disagree with you there. The BOTM Raptors are easily the best on the market, regardless of scale. While I agree that a 1/18 line of larger species would have been preferable, it'd be a bit blasphemous to make a raptor series without the namesake itself.

I think the scale is perfect because nobody realistically wanted a small turkey sized 1/12th velocirator.

The baby raptor double as in scale turkey sized raptor for this purpose, the 1/6th raptor scale as jurassic park scale raptor for 1/12th figures and anime girls and it scales as proper big utahraptor/dakotaraptor for 1/18th scale figure.

The problem though is that David Silva seems to be pondering about 1/35th scale for theropods with 1/18th scale ceratopsian. Now that's utterly dumb

The point is that outside of these handful of larger scale tiny ceratopsians being made to go with the raptors, no other dinosaurs are ever going to be made by him in the raptor scale again. And it sounds like he's continuing the retard ideas by adding in even more scales. What is the point of having dozens of dinosaur species if they are out of scale with one another?
