Hello, I was thinking about entering Lego Technic hobby... I was researching about buying a lot of sets and stuff... but then I discovered that Lego has a shop that lets you buy individual pieces...

So I don't think I'll buy sets anymore.

I'll just buy the Power Functions and Mindstorms... then I'll buy the bushs, beams, axles and other pieces from Pick-a-Brick.
There's another service called Bricks & Pieces, you can buy other pieces there... like orange beams not available at Pick-a-Brick. There's also Brick Link, it's a great place to buy balls...

Also, in this way I'll only buy pieces I need and I won't want to collect sets. I want technic to build contraptions, not cars and trucks...

What do you think about this strategy?

How trustable are the sellers? Is there pirated stuff?

Lego prices are good, but once you go into the Brick & Pieces the prices rise up a little bit, I'd say about 25%. They're missing some pieces too.

i have no idea how this would work

I have the feeling most of them are AFOLs that run stores to pay for their own hobby, parting out sets they find on clearance, garage sale lots, whatever. They are overall very reliable. I'm up to ~130 orders over the years and 3/4ths of my collection is from bricklink; out of these I had one that sent me clone brand parts. It looked like an honest mistake, they issued a refund, etc, which is par for the course: every time I have some problem like miscounted parts or wrong variant, the seller is quick to correct whatever it is.

you'll get best results by creating an account, making wanted lists, then searching by store to find whichever seller has most of the inventory you want.

Additionally to what you said, I also think they go to Pick-a-Brick Lego stores and fill the cups to sell then at BrickLink.

I've finally found an excuse to learn to program. I'm really impressed with Technic and Mindstorms.

it turns out our plastic fantastics aren't exactly as expensive as Lego likes to price them these days. From what I see it, the prices of parts are exactly based on how prominent they are and their production. It's uncommon that a part will go over a dollar or two

There's no profit in doing this, all sellers on there are AFOLs who just amassed parts and are getting rid of any stock they don't need or just have to sell

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. I love Faber but he's useless without a larger organization directing his creativity. Lego should hire him back and do a G3 in like, 2020 or so. He'll probably be broke by then.

It's going to be a multimedia project in the vein of the early days of Bionicle. There have been sporadic updates if you've cared to actually read them. 6 years isn't really a shocker considering it's being funded on freelance work, and preproduction is the longest and most expensive phase of nearly any collaborative project. Bionicle toiled in concept for somewhere around 5 years before making it to print, and that was on Lego's panic budget.

I think it could end up being a more niche alternative to the Architecture line if it's successful. It is a little odd that they've gone with a third-party funding service instead of a proprietary one, like Hasbro or Mattel have, but I think the fact that they are sort of doing these by-order means whatever impact it has on Technic as a whole will be peripheral. It's still too early to tell, with just the one sets for order right now, but I'm anxious to see where it goes.

I think it should be included, since the newer technics sets are pretty much a misture of CCBS and technic.

I don't think there's a "pure" system in the market anymore.

They will always come wtih Minidoll/Minifigure system, Classic System, Technic and CCBS. Some come with Power Functions too...

They're all mixed.

But I think that Technic and CCBS are linked together, because there's no set without it in the market. So it really should be a "CCBS and Technic" topic.

I think that's the future of Lego.

It'll maintain the skeleton form the CCBS system, but will used Forma system to create the armors. So they won't need to use them on Technic system...

I really liked this Forma system. It represents better engineering, since most of the machines are actually covered with a thin layer of plastic/metal.

How come no one had this idea before?

Also, if you think about it Lego has already used a system like this before. But that was probably a workarung by that time... now they're making it a real system.

I remember the Lego Pirates flag very well... I think it can be categorized in the Forma System as well.

Although some sellers also use minimum average lot limit. lot = quantity of one specific part, so you can't buy 2 1x1 studs at two cents each, you have to buy 20 before they decide it's worth the effort to waddle over to that corner of their store and stick their sausagey fingers in that particular parts bin. I just take it as invitation to go shop somewhere else.

Would you guys be happy with an orofinal robot line that was made of different size of robots like Slizerd with molded heads but the small sets used Mixel balljoints and lego bricks with a molded head and bigger sets used CCBS with lego bricks? The molded head could be the same mold for every figure and just use a different print. Imagine something like pic related but with a molded head with a print on it as face like Slizers/Roboriders had.

Lego stated in the past that they are looking for japanese licenses. Also Sunrise announced that they plan to do a live action Gundam movie with Legendary which will most likely be distributed by Warner Bros.
But Frankly I would rather have a original theme. I would like that the next CCBS figures to be smaller,Toa Mata/Inika size. Not the big G2 Bonkles. They were way too big and they should do titans right.

Probably that for realistic sets, the scales keep varying so they would often be out of place, and for "fantasy" sets, building the creatures and characters was the point so they were kinda useless.
There just weren't any reason to keep them other than designing sets arround them, which would be something of a waste since they weren't even that popular in the first place.

With the next SW CCBS line cancelled and none of the known 2019 sets costing over 60$ and mostly being in the 15-30$ range instead it somewhat seems like they are reevaluating the theme as a whole.
Or maybe they're just preparing for those anniversary sets.

I'm pretty sure lego won't do anniversary sets anymore, they did basically nothing for ep 4 turning 40. Not even anything special on the side of the box. Either disney didn't want lego to distract from TLJ, or they aren't bothered..

Yep, after SW dies ,Lego will only have Marvel and I guess DC as their only 2 popular stuff. DC films seem to be struggling and as much as I hate MCU films, they make a lot; though I'm not sure how well the lego sets sell.

Ninjago sort of IS Exoforce 2 anon. It’s got its robots when needed. The thing that Ninjago doesn’t really do is space ships but it’s tough to imagine a new Space theme. Space Police III and Galaxy squad sold “ok”. Maybe an “urban fantasy” sort of theme to really emphasize the characters Legos story telling is really about these days. However Legos bread and butter are young children and that whole genre strikes better with younger teens.

Next year Ninjago goes back to snakes and skeletons. They are playing the 2011-2013 nostalgia button because the movie bombed. I think the thwme will end around 2022. 2020 is already confirmed for more.

LEGO never created the blocks system. Nor the Peg System, nor the block+peg system... yet they pretty much claim it was them.

Most technic pieces are nothing more than mechanical pieces under a "grid" and a "pattern" and nothing more.

They have a patent for optimization for rendering bricks in real time for CAD software. Fuck them. I don't even know how they could get a patent like that. That's patent troll at its finest.

Yes, LEGO created that tube that's connected to the bottom of the piece. That's okay, I think. But they wanted the brick format for themselves.

And they wanted to protect it under trademark. It's the same thing that Disney is doing with Mickey Mouse, that's why they're using the black/white Mickey everywhere. Mickey is about to go public domain, yet no one will be able to use him because of trademarks.

They could only get the Minifigure trademark. I don't think that was okay, because the minifigures were never used as their own thing from LEGO before, they were pieces of a system... they started to market the minifigures like that with that trademark battle. They won. But I don't think they should've won.

Thankfully they lost the brick trademark. I guess that's why they're not using that system logo with the brick on top of it anymore.

Either the 94' supercar, or the '92 crane truck with the compressor & pneumatic system. Unfortunately I can't love the latter because it uses the ridiculous old 9v system (requires six batteries, dies in a day), and because the pneumatics get destroyed so easily while putting it together. I have like 3 or 4 sets of these guys. My originals from '94, those are extremely damaged. I got a second set some time later. Then in the 00s I got at least one, maybe two new sets of them as well.

Why is LEGO not using a "cube" but a 5:6 piece? I know it goes back to kiddicraft stuff. But still...

There's having no creativity and then there's wanting something refreshing to get invested into. There's no fun in years of nothing new and having to make your own shit over and over. But it did. Similar to Bonkle, Transformers was practically dead in the years leading up to Beast Wars in most markets. Of course the major difference is that TF was an enormous pop culture sensation with cartoons, a theatrical movie that bombed but grew into a cult classic, and legit comics that were more than mere magazine freebies. It had a huge fanbase of raging adult autists who were still active online. Hasbro had plenty of reasons to try and reimagine one of their flagship brands. They experimented and lucked out with Beast Wars.
In contrast, Lego hardly gives a shit about action figures anymore and the fanbase is minuscule because Bionicle didn't leave a big enough pop cultural footprint.

If you want to get into Bionicle, go to biomediaproject (a website that's preserved any and all media related to Bionicle), and download the Mata Nui Online Game (they have a version with autosaves there). It's an old flash game released back when Bionicle was first introduced, and it's easily the best way to tell if you'll like the series, thanks to its artstyle, writing, and atmosphere.
If you're still interested in it after that, then read the comics (made by DC) and the occasional movie when needed (just avoid the 4th one). There are also novels, which are surprisingly not bad for the most part.

So I discovered the beauty that is Stud.io and I've started to construct this monstrosity. Making those track assemblies was a PAIN (and I'm not sure they're registered as properly linked up) but I love tracks with links so it's worth it IMO. It's strange, but I've never liked Bionicle neither. I even tried to like it. But it didn't "click". There's something strange about Bionacle that I don't like. I think it's specialized pieces. Not being a Technic set... but I really liked Forma.

But I don't really have a problem with CCBS.

I think that a CCBS system with FORMA would be great. Just like Technic with FORMA would be great too.

Ace or whoever was running the discord probably had a meltdown when /biog/ was ended since those running the discord were the ones consistantly making the new generals, and there was probably a large infight that lead to either mass banning/privitization of the server or the server was just deleted because what's the point. This is the best place to talk Bionicle anymore outside of /co/ if you want to talk lore and comics. So if you want to talk Bionicle but not here, I don't know what to tell you. Get a new hobby, I guess.

The Discord was never really about Bionicle though and they don't give a shit about the threads here. Back when it started, there was plenty of Bonkle-related talk and /toy/ thread maintenance, but that has long passed, and it became a general all-purpose (but mostly shitposting and forced meme) server for the handful of posters who still hang out there. They tried to keep things alive and /biog/-related through MOC contests, but those got less and less attention.
I don't know why anyone would want to go to talk specifically about Bionicle there. It's not about Bionicle, it's about a namefag community.

The Discord was made post G2 end iirc. There wasn't really a freakout, some mods kept the threads on life support up until recently. Way I see it, /biog/ should only exist as long as people truly want it to. The Discord was pretty inconsequential though, they've had more WWE talk than they ever had Bionicle.

I'd say the pneumatic backhoe loader (8455): the playability is beyond amazing, and has (probably) the highest amount of pneumatics of all time. Alternatively the mobile crane 42009 is an amazing set that never fails to amaze me because of all its feature. In contrast, the last crane, the all terrain red one, kinda disappointed me: after I got the 42009 I was eagerly waiting for the next big crane by Lego, but this last one is just big for no reason except for being big, and doesn't improve in any way compared to the 42009, so the ten-wheel beast is still king for me.
