Why is there so much negativity against licensed themes? Without Star Wars Lego would have bankrupted. And why get mad over Overwatch getting a couple of sets? Just don't buy them, they will be around for a year or two and then vanish.

Mario is iffy because Nintendo are very strange about who they license with and not. Also the license might be too pricey for Lego to consider it, I doubt they'd announce numbers.

There's a lot of potential because all the building blocks (heh) are here to combine the two but Nintendo are so anal about letting anyone else use their IPs that it will probably never happen.

Blacktron II was my last Space theme as a kid, I never experienced Spyrius, Space Police II or Ice Planet. Still have a soft spot for Futuron, M-Tron and Blacktron tho.

I'd give it a very classic castle feel with many grey-area factions (not necessarily good or evil)
lots of primary colours for the factions. Not hyper detailed, much black instead of copper and stuff.
Then i'd sprinkle in a lot of supernatural magic secrets throughout. (ghosts in the closet, witches in the shrubbery, many wacky potions and stuff) but keep it very low key.
Not a big emphasis on vehicles. Bigger emphasis on small semi-modular structures.
Add the blacksmith shack to your castle! add this small tower to your wall! So you can even get a cool settlement buying just smaller sets.

Line 2 will be the golems turning on them thanks to an evil Romeo and Juliet, so they have to team up.

Well, I've always been partial to Teal, so I'm glad it's back. For now it's just a stockpiling thing, but at some point I hope to redo my lowrider ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRPIWUzAj7k ) with a brick exterior instead of just technic panels. No idea if it's feasible, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I'm a major car-fag (working on tweaking some as we speak) but the castle theme isn't that fitting for it outside your horses here and there with maybe one or two carriages)

You gotta complement your minifigs with a nice balance of sick-ass cars, environmental pieces, buildings and cozy interiors to hang in.

build is rather simple and barren, but it atleast gives some sort of structure and is easily melded with regular city stuff.
On the one i'm glad it's an actual buildable set instead of just minifigs, but the main attraction for most fans are just the minifigs probably(quakefag that never played more modern multiplayer shooters here)

What age-rating is Overwatch even? I know there's no gore but the set feels a bit on the juniors side of the spectrum.

We won't have a Lego Space theme as long as Lego Star Wars is in production.

We won't have a Pirates theme as long as PotC is in production.

We won't have a Castle/Fantasy theme as long as Harry Potter is in production.

Lego designers are hamstringed because instead of being able to run wild with creativity, their designs have to go through Disney revisions.

The license taxes mean that the price-per-piece is higher than an original Lego theme of identical piece count/weight would be.

Those are some reasons.

This is good advice. If you have patience, on Black Friday every Walmart store gets twenty giant Creator boxes that sell for $20 each. This is a good way to bulk up your collection of raw bricks and slopes, but doesn't have many small or multi-use pieces other than some SNOT bricks.

I always recommend buying large unsorted lots from craigslist/ebay/garage sales, etc. You get a lot of pieces for a lot cheaper than you would buying new, and as long as you wash them before you use them they're basically the same.

I don't fret over brickbuilt, but I can understand wanting something a bit more...stylish? Sometimes I wish they would do so more often. At least when they can be better incorporated into builds. The thing is it's actually a bit common with licensed builds. Take the Sakaaran soldiers, for instance, and their big black cockblasters.

My issue is that back in the day, Lego had a good balance of licenced and original themes in its roster. Nowadays however, Lego is putting most of its energy into the licenced shit, to the point where they outnumber the original themes. Just depends on location. Target and Wal-Mart usually carry one or two at any given time. If you have a Legoland Discovery Center nearby, they carry a shit-ton of them (as I've discovered about 20 different kinds in my local one).

And you can parts swap parts between destiny , halo, call of duty figures and even tmnt or terminator to create all manner of custom cyberpunk, fantasy or military figures.

And its not mega bloks fitting with lego bricks thats the important gimmick; its that these micro figures also manage to be so brick compatible that nakes mega so amazing.

Hell had mega gotten bigger we may of even had weebshit getting made as microfigures.

That's what fans cry over losing. Who wasn't on the edge of their seats for Luke's trench run in the original movie? That was golden. And the Vader reveal in Empire. But then you can audibly hear Lucas's fingers rubbing together when Ewoks come on screen. It's hard to pinpoint when Star Wars became a cash grab, but that was blatantly for the merch. Bought that small Unikitty set today and Christ, the printing on the Unikitty head is Lady Iron Dragon-tier with the eyes being more of a faint pink instead of white.

So, I just built this out of the Mythical Creatures set using all of its parts and it's quite amusing how some cheap-ass 15$/€ Creator box is a better set for building fully poseable mechs than Lego's actual robotic offerings.
(But then again, this one is pretty great in general.)

I would have enjoyed some sci-fi bs about the physics of the hyperspace drive, but not straight up "the gas lights on". Give me some "beryllium core fracture will expose the rotating singularity if we don't stop!"

As cool as it was to see a big budget RKV kamikaze attack, it made not just the whole movie pointless (just launch a freighter at the dreadnaught) but the whole franchise. Why build a death star when you could launch a moon into a planet?
It goes back to my first point, holdol had a damaged ship and tried to run, but the tracking system forced her to stop. While negotiating, her crew organize a hyperspace jump, timed to her scuttling the capitalship. That disables the hyperspace tracking system. That also let's the Finn and Rose run for gas, to be a Intel mission to learn about this new tracking system. What they discover is it can't be defeated, only momentarily "reset" by a shaped gravitational wave.

The rest of the movie is the rest of the movie, but the big space backdrop would have played better.

I'm having a bit of trouble with one of those Nexo Knights cockpits. yeah nah
instead I'm thinking of lights to put on that front section, maybe a reinforced bumper and a windshield and now it's gonna need a longer wheelbase, might as well add a few pairs of wheels, and then a cabin and storage, a fridge for icey souvenirs and a fountain and now it looks kind of like a tank so a movable turret wouldn't be out of place, and so, kind of, I guess you're right in a different sort of way

Guys i need input. I have the chance to get THE lego castle - 6086 black knights castle that is. All minifigs are there and the bricks is in good condition. A few missing tough, the tiny square flag on the top of the entrance aswell as both the rope for the drawbridge and winch.

Okay guys, I'm looking for a theme that's not in BrickSet/BrickLink database...

I think it was one of the Aquanauts set or related to it. It had these characteristics:

I had a yellow submarine.
It had a brick that was a Dive Propulsion thing that you could lock to the minifig hands.
It had one octopus.
I'm pretty sure it had a manta ray.
You'd build a decaying skeleton of whale/big monster . It was built with common white small bricks, some where curved
You'd bulid its head and torso skeleton.
There was a treasure chest inside its head.
That skeleton head was a trap, if you pushed the chest, the head would "smash" the minifig.
It had a big light brownish big tray that you'd build the skeleton.
There was big boulders that you could stick fish stickers on it. (I think it was fish stickers).
It was a medium to big set. Not the biggest, but not small.

I can't find this set ANYWHERE.

It was sold in Brazil, it was around 1997~2000's.

Do anyone know this set?

Well, damn - I completely forgot about this one. I had a sub very close to that one (pic related), but I had always wanted that full set. I even tried to build my own version of it with a sea monster skeleton instead, next to the remains of a shipwreck made from my old Cross-Bone Clipper (it was pretty crappy, though). While i thought the Aquazone/Aquasharks/Aquaraiders sets were awesome, I always felt the old Diver sets were so comfy.

Probably because it's not in a "good guys vs baddies" theme.
It's nothing but comfy exploration with vahicles that look nice and practical, all in round shapes as opposed to the more heavily themed and often more in-your-face Aquazone.
Plus it's full of very basic Lego faces, which helps.

Yeah, I think that's it. There wasn't any 'in-your-face' conflict with those sets - just guys doing their jobs exploring the sea, with the wildlife just doing their own thing. Even the warm colors of the sandy baseplates that came with a bunch of them helped that feeling a bit - like looking at the bottom of a calm, clear, tropical lagoon, instead of the deep, cold, murky depths where all the Aquazone stuff took place. So cozy.

Personally I'd recommend sorting by element, because then it's easier to find what you need in the right colour. It's more difficult to find a blue cheese slopes in a sea of blue then it is to find it mixed in with red, green, etc.

You don't have to do everything ofcourse, just small increments of slightly more specific sorting so it's workable to quickly find something.
Going from complete chaos to orderly takes forever, sorting from sorted pretty well to better is easy. If you plan on adding to your collection i'd take not of a point where it's extra hard to sort/find pieces because they're all one uniform colour.
I sort per part, but still have some colour baggies for big og bricks and some rare colours I only have a bunch of. (because you can quickly forget what pieces were made in that colour or lose track of how much you have of it, If I consider using it in a moc i just look at the baggy instead of having to sift through many common coloured pieces to get a feeling)

Seriously, if you intend on getting back into it, you should definitely sort by parts. It doesn't even need to be specific, just put all the plates together, all the nature pieces together, bricks, and so on.

Actually what happened was some guy complained, then a few months later Lego retired the set along with all the other sets from that wave, then the guy claimed that he had gotten Lego to retire it, then Lego said that it had been planned for retirement and it didn't have anything to do with him, and then later some faggots online started claiming it was proof that the sjws took muh star wars away.

At one point, Yahoo was pretty much exactly like Google in terms of corporate culture. It was when both were close competitors, before Google really blew the fuck up.
They were both the cool silicon valley companies where the employees can fuck arround with nerf guns or RC cars during breaks, etc.
Needless to say, both were very much focused on keeping their services running so they were full of technicians and engineers and thus were complete sausagefests with higher-ups trying to get them back to work every now and then. but since 75% of the workforce was the sort of autistic geek you can think of, they got most things done fairly well and quickly.
However the two took very different direction.
Yahoo shareholders decided to name a new CEO (NOTE : this did not apply to the still existing asian branch of Yahoo that is a separate entity and is still doing pretty well in Japan and Korea) and took a woman, they also decided to try and equalize their workforce in terms of sex equity.
However they couldn't find a lot of skilled female technicians. So what they did was freeze the hiring on technical staff and hire women where they could find qualified candidates : in middle-managment.
What made that sort of tech company work really well at the timpe was the very loose managment that allowed the employees to pretty much do things at their own pace, in their own way, meaning they wouldn't always be working but when they do, they go all out and get rid of the problem in a record amount of time. That completely changed when they decided to shove in more women just because, now all the departments became loaded with hierarchy because all these managers had to work somewhere, they created all sorts of separate teams that did not at all fit the prior culture of the company. some of the technical staff left, which ultimately could be seen as a good thing by the direction boards as it meant the company went closer to their desired 50/50 men to women ratio.

What it means is that obviously, the service declined in quality since there were fewer people working on it, and they were working in a less efficient manner. In the meantime, the places left empty were filled by female managers or PR agents who could do okay in their fields but that alone would not make up for the drop in quality of the technical services themselves. They did great at micromanaging tasks in a way that was efficient for a bunch of small teams but that was less efficient than a whole office passing work and issues to whoever was best suited thanks to lack of structure, and they did great at talking their way arround how bad they were getting.
It's a big part of why Yahoo failed the way it did. It's not the only reason, but it's a pretty big reason.

They thought they could turn into a happy version of IBM.

Huh, just noticed another issue which honestly is even worse and makes me question just how the fuck this even got into the final set.
The red wedge on Squarebear's box does NOT fit on the box as intended and has to be put on via an illegal connection where the longer side of the wedge has to be tilted slightly upwards, resulting in an awkward connection that probably puts one of the pieces under too much stress.
Check out the image: the distance between the two pegs on the box is larger than the gap inside the wedge.

You know where it DOES work perfectly, though?
The Lego Digital Designer, so whoever designed this set didn't actually properly test the damn thing IRL.

Thanks everyone, I certainly plan to sub divide colours into plates/tiles/bricks/slopes etc when I get more but this is manageable for now. I have 5 modular sets that I don't dare take apart and put with the rest.

This. My parents couldn't really justify spending so much on the bigger sets unless it was a birthday or something, so I always got the small sets, and I fuckin' loved them. I have fond memories of taking them on expeditions around my back yard, running into my older minifigs and forming alliances/ rivalries with them. Good times.

i bought myself 75888 for my bday. it's $25 at target.

the 930 in lime green is sublime. gonna do my en-widening thing to it. as for the modern 911 in the set, i plan on making it into a 917, with martini colors. if and when speed champ style fenders, wheel arches, mud guards come in light blue, gulf oil race everything.
